However, the back door was open and many locals came in through the back run after the front was closed. So check the back door even if the front looks closed. They have live music Wed and Sun nights and is a mix of traditional Irish music and more contemporary music. There was a quartet playing when we got there but various folks in the bar swapped in and out to play different instruments or sing songs. The quality of music was surprisingly good. The crowd is mostly locals with a smattering of tourists who seem to have been referred there by other locals (possibly hotel staff). The folks there and the barkeep were very friendly and welcoming. The prices were very reasonable (though I don't have a good base of comparison within Cashel). Would definitely recommend the pub for a local pub experience (especially on a night they have live music).

The kicker though were those little croutons floating on top. That brown bread actually got better. I wish I had more. They also make fresh desserts there and I broke down and had a toffee banana tart with fresh whipped cream. Wow. I ate it in small pieces to extend the savoring experience. There are also roulades and other tasty looking fresh desserts and the breakfasts people were eating looked great!

The dining room was nicely appointed. The staff was attentive and friendly but not overbearing They had two pricing structures, one for two course meal and one for a three course meal. My wife ordered a two course meal and I ordered a three course meal because the third course, dessert, we felt would be best shared. The soup of the day was tomato basil which I had and it was outstanding. I have the prime rib for the main course and it was cooked to perfection and, of course, served with some potatoes. For dessert we had the brownie with ice cream and it was also very good. Well worth the cost. I highly recommend it.

There was a rather elderly fellow sitting next to the Mister at the bar and he overheard us discussing our engagement. Well - we had a new friend! He was thrilled we would have such an important event in his area and we discussed his kids who now live in the US. After about 10 more beers I went up to bed. Mister dragged himself to bed much later. Turns out our new BFF had just walked down for a paper and his wife had to come collect him. This is the kind of good time you can expect here - people are welcoming, kind and you wont be a stranger for long!

I was craving the chicken curry dish, my husband got the meat plate (steak fillet,two lamb chops and two pork links- all three on a layer of mashed potatoes, fries AND onion rings!!! His plate was 16.95Euro! So reasonable for this amount of food and it was A LOT of food!!!! My husband loved it so did I. The meat tender and brilliant. He is still talking about how wonderful his dish was. My curry chicken dish came with fries and rice- again it's a lot of food that I couldn't finish 15.95 again SO reasonable!! Not only was the food brilliant our conversation was great with the owner Mickey. We chatted for a good long while and we feel like we made a new friend! Well, everything is cheap compared to the restaurant. The prices are typical for an Irish pub setting; 10-12 EUR per entrees and mains. The aformentioned goujons were 9.95 EUR with chips and a deceptively small yet amazingly tasty salad. There's not much seating but it's charming, despite being in the basement.
