From day one the interdisciplinary team steered my mother's care with attention and concern for her every need. Anyone who has ever cared for someone afflicted with Alzheimer's disease is fully aware of the overwhelming complexities and complications resulting from each transitioning stage. The 6th floor nurses, cna's, dietary staff, recreation staff and volunteers each rose to all the varying challenges involved in my mother's care. Social worker Jessica M. assigned to my case was beautifully caring, absolutely professional and accompanied my family members throughout this painful journey. My mom contracted a UTI & we were never notified of the infection and only found out when my mom told us they took a urine test and was on an antibiotic. The facility is very outdated for the amount they charge for room & board & needs a big facelift If you are thinking about placing your loved one at Clove Lakes for rehab or long term, think about another facility & do some research before you do.

Favoritism plays a big roll there. I could go on what I went through & saw on the 3rd floor but that nightmare I'll keep to myself.

Happened during the night and employees found her in bed in the morning w/blood on her pillow. They believe she rolled out of bed and crawled back in. Mom is non ambulatory and screams when she is moved. Impossible for her to climb back in bed. She had to get stitches on the back of the head and broken hip. This happened in June. Other falls I received two or three different stories of what happened. Employee telling resident "I'll put you in the quiet room if you don't eat". Said three times during dinner- I was feeding mom and heard this. Employee sleeping while he is supposed to watch residents. I told manager he was sleeping and she had to wake him up. All residents do is sit in the living room with the tv on. No activities.. this is the second floor memory care. Sunrise has gone downhill in the last year. I moved my mom to another sunrise by me (out of state) and she is thriving. There is more but including bed sores that were not brought to my attention. And sunrise of Staten Island (narrows road), don't bother to respond to this. Eger Health Center isn't all that bad but it isn't all that good. Like other reviewers have mentioned its really outdated here. I know you don't come here for the decor and all but when families are paying nearly $550 a day to be housed here you'd think in the very least the building and its rooms would be modern and up to date. Instead you're faced with a dank reception desk, dirty carpets throughout, old paint, "wood" everywhere, peeling walls, old chairs, and the bathrooms in each room are straight out the 60's. I could go on and on about the condition of this building but I don't want to take away from the staff that keeps this place running. The staff here are some of the most compassionate people I have met during the process of my relatives passing. They were kind, caring, and respectful with all of us during some difficult time but when it came to them having to interact with him they were gentle and patient which doesn't always happens in many of these places. We didn't have much time to research a better possible facility but cant say I truly regretted the decision my family made to use this facility.

This review is for the Esplanade's catering service. This is 9 months into our experience. We hosted an 80th birthday for our mother at the Esplanade. We hired their catering team, and hosted the event in the "Activity Room" on the basement level. The whole event could not have gone better! Chef Joseph and his team (Asst Manager Theresa, and server Joe) were excellent! Joseph was communicative via email, phone calls, and in person. I was amazed at how accommodating he was, and open to our preferred menu, but also added advice which was very much needed. The food was excellent! Rave reviews for deviled eggs, potato croquettes, grilled veggies! As a vegetarian, I am particularly pleased with how well the veggie items were made. (so often the veg is neglected in the grand scheme of things). The "activity room" was easily transformed into an elevated venue. The caterers provided white tablecloths, and I added flowers, balloons, and birthday decor. It all looked great! The team helped me with providing a "display table" on which I displayed photos of my mother. We also had a kids' table set up. They provided unexpected things like a mini-fridge, cooler, bluetooth speaker. This was all hugely helpful for me since I live outside of the borough and don't have a car which makes things challenging for me. They were even available on the days leading up to the event: they accepted delivered cake/baked items (when I couldn't be there to receive them) and placed them safely in the fridge along with the beer supply. I cannot say enough good things about this team. Part of the goal for this event (besides the obvious: celebrating my mother's 80th birthday) was also to celebrate my mother's new home at such a great residence. I wanted to show her the possibilities and what the future can be for us. This goal was a huge success.

I worked at Lakeside Manor on and off for close to 10 years. I can understand the frustration it…read morecauses the neighbors as parts of Silver Lake are very upscale. However, in defense of the home; allow me to make some clarifications so many observers can understand the legal limitations afforded by the staff. Being that Lakeside Manor is an adult and ambulatory home, the residents are free to come and go as they please (as long as it does not interfere with their medication schedule). The home is an assisted environment that will provide meals, a room and private/shared restroom. The residents are not permitted to cook or have certain appliances in the home or it can pose a fire hazard. As far as lack of response to a complaint, the staff are much more limited as to what they actually can do. Even though the facility provides shelter for the residents, the residents still have individual freedoms that prevent the staff from taking certain actions without violating the person's rights. When a resident needs hospitalization, if he or she does not go willingly, the staff must call 911 for police assistance; that is why the staff respond to certain inquiries with calling the police. I have personally walked (because driving the resident would have infringed on legal rights) with another supervisor down Victory Blvd. several times to retrieve an elderly, intoxicated resident from in front of someone's home (about 2 miles away), however, he was a very mild, mannered person. If it was a more aggressive person, we would have called 911. The staff never condone drug use nor alcohol consumption and will confiscate anything found. It is similar to being a parent to a hostile teenager, there is only so much one can do... and being that they are somewhat independent adults; the staff cannot punish them. The staff has no control over what the residents do outside of the home, and if they do catch one doing something inappropriate, actions are taken to stop it and try to prevent it from happening again. For example, a resident is caught doing something inappropriate away from the home, their allowance might be taken away and then there is that legal zone where the staff cannot withhold the resident's money for an extended period. There have on occasion been residents that have been a terrible match for the home and the process to have them transferred elsewhere is quite lengthy. Remember, these people are sick and their own families have been unable to care for them properly, so imagine that times 200? Lakeside Manor is by no means perfect, but it is a much better environment than the alternative of someone who is not quite capable of taking care of himself or herself. Are the staff perfect? No, but the majority of them truly care and that is what makes them work in that type of environment. Remember that for all of the complaints of what the residents do outside of the home; they do inside of the home as well and there is a person who has to grab a mop and clean up after them. Before giving the home such a negative review, find out more about the 24/7 operations. It is a very difficult job to take care of mentally ill people and a very fine line between upholding their dignity and protecting oneself when a mentally ill resident becomes violent; because let's face it, it does happen and the staff need to be prepared for it. This is not a job for the faint at heart. Although it may seem like the staff don't care about the neighbor's concerns, well, they're not hired to worry about the neighborhood, they're hired to help the residents live a comfortable life and hopefully even rehabilitate them. And I'm certain the Administrator of the home as well as the staff are more than willing to work with the neighborhood to make improvements and to address some issues, but to expect this to be done with the facilitator's bank account only would be unfair as the home is breaking no laws no matter how hard the opposition tries to accuse. If you have an ambulatory mentally ill or geriatric family member who needs some assistance, Lakeside Manor is a decent place to bring your loved one. I would bring my loved one there if I needed to, and I worked there so I know ALL of what goes on in there. The staff truly take good care of the residents.
