Happened during the night and employees found her in bed in the morning w/blood on her pillow. They believe she rolled out of bed and crawled back in. Mom is non ambulatory and screams when she is moved. Impossible for her to climb back in bed. She had to get stitches on the back of the head and broken hip. This happened in June. Other falls I received two or three different stories of what happened. Employee telling resident "I'll put you in the quiet room if you don't eat". Said three times during dinner- I was feeding mom and heard this. Employee sleeping while he is supposed to watch residents. I told manager he was sleeping and she had to wake him up. All residents do is sit in the living room with the tv on. No activities.. this is the second floor memory care. Sunrise has gone downhill in the last year. I moved my mom to another sunrise by me (out of state) and she is thriving. There is more but including bed sores that were not brought to my attention. And sunrise of Staten Island (narrows road), don't bother to respond to this. Your response is automated and if you wanted to know exactly what I witnessed, I already emailed you with my phone number.

The nurses and caregivers go above and beyond to provide excellent care and treat residents with dignity and respect. Communication with families is also very good, which gives peace of mind. I truly appreciate the dedication and professionalism of the entire team and would highly recommend this facility to others. It truly felt like a supportive community rather than just a medical facility. I would highly recommend this rehab center to anyone looking for quality senior care and rehabilitation services

I tried to give zero stars but that's not an option. There aren't words to describe how horrible…read morethis place is. My elderly father was transferred from Northwell (also horrible) after falling down a flight of stairs. He was transferred without an MRI being done (the hospital's mistake), and with a diagnosis of "leg pain"...how that was acceptable to a rehab facility is beyond me, but let's say that was an honest mistake. After he was there for about 3 weeks, my mother and I had a meeting with the head of PT, the nurse manager, and a social worker where we were told that he wasn't making progress and that it was due to his fear of falling again. My (80 year old) mother had to insist - to a team of MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS - that he get an MRI. Took another 3 weeks to get him said MRI because no one at Carmel Richmond could get it together enough to schedule it, which is wild since this is literally what they do. Guess what the MRI found? Two complete quadriceps tendon tears - basically meaning that his thighs were not connected to his kneecaps. (But yeah, he wasn't making progress because of his "fear"!) He eventually got surgery, TWO AND A HALF MONTHS after his fall. Because his first 50 days of Medicare allowance were wasted at Carmel Richmond, it ran out, and then instead of appealing, or giving any indication that they were aware of the fact that he wasn't ready to go home, and the only person there to take care of him is my 80 year old mother, they just sent him home with some papers as guidance. No doctor check out, no PA check out, no nurse check out, no social worker check out, just sent him home. No one from Carmel Richmond ever contacted my mother to A) alert her to the fact that my father was being discharged, B) talk to her about it, C) find out if that was a safe or viable option. During his time at Carmel Richmond, he got C. Diff, lost about 30 lbs, my mother had to put him on and take him off the bedpan and get him out of bed and down to rehab NUMEROUS times. My father went literal WEEKS without taking a shower or getting bathed. Over a week without getting bandages changed. He missed out on tons of rehab because of a lack of staff or communication. No one there is helpful, there are new nurses there every week, there's no continuity of care. What a terrible, awful place. This is capitalism in healthcare at its absolute WORST. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE IF YOU WANT THEM TO BE TAKEN CARE OF!!!!!!!

My mom now has two super friendly and kind young women who trade off supporting her during the week. She is so at ease with them. I was talking to her today and she randomly started singing "You're So Vain" and I could hear her companion singing along with her! Honestly I can't say enough good things about this company. The professionalism and personalized care starts right at the top with Larisa and is embodied by every person in the company I've engaged with. We are all over the moon about finding the Esplanade as a new home for our mother who just turned…read more80. I have already completed a review on google for the residence. This review is for the Esplanade's catering service. This is 9 months into our experience. We hosted an 80th birthday for our mother at the Esplanade. We hired their catering team, and hosted the event in the "Activity Room" on the basement level. The whole event could not have gone better! Chef Joseph and his team (Asst Manager Theresa, and server Joe) were excellent! Joseph was communicative via email, phone calls, and in person. I was amazed at how accommodating he was, and open to our preferred menu, but also added advice which was very much needed. The food was excellent! Rave reviews for deviled eggs, potato croquettes, grilled veggies! As a vegetarian, I am particularly pleased with how well the veggie items were made. (so often the veg is neglected in the grand scheme of things). The "activity room" was easily transformed into an elevated venue. The caterers provided white tablecloths, and I added flowers, balloons, and birthday decor. It all looked great! The team helped me with providing a "display table" on which I displayed photos of my mother. We also had a kids' table set up. They provided unexpected things like a mini-fridge, cooler, bluetooth speaker. This was all hugely helpful for me since I live outside of the borough and don't have a car which makes things challenging for me. They were even available on the days leading up to the event: they accepted delivered cake/baked items (when I couldn't be there to receive them) and placed them safely in the fridge along with the beer supply. I cannot say enough good things about this team. Part of the goal for this event (besides the obvious: celebrating my mother's 80th birthday) was also to celebrate my mother's new home at such a great residence. I wanted to show her the possibilities and what the future can be for us. This goal was a huge success.

I would not leave a stay cat there. They are very stingy and cheap with the residents who pay…read morethousands a month.
