From day one the interdisciplinary team steered my mother's care with attention and concern for her every need. Anyone who has ever cared for someone afflicted with Alzheimer's disease is fully aware of the overwhelming complexities and complications resulting from each transitioning stage. The 6th floor nurses, cna's, dietary staff, recreation staff and volunteers each rose to all the varying challenges involved in my mother's care. Social worker Jessica M. assigned to my case was beautifully caring, absolutely professional and accompanied my family members throughout this painful journey. Whatever issue would arise I was always kept informed and involved in my mother's care throughout her stay. Blessings and praise to all employees on the 6th floor...A heartfelt thank you. Update on 1-3-18 : My mother would have loved "Claire" the therapeutic pony. Beautiful pictures, she is adorable !

We had an initial progress call with the social worker, dietitian, & head of rehab & they were not able to answer any of my questions. My mom contracted a UTI & we were never notified of the infection and only found out when my mom told us they took a urine test and was on an antibiotic. The facility is very outdated for the amount they charge for room & board & needs a big facelift If you are thinking about placing your loved one at Clove Lakes for rehab or long term, think about another facility & do some research before you do.

The security welcomes you everytime with a smile . Just make sure you know therapy is down in the lower lobby.. LL. i had a stroke at age 26. one in a million chance ... i started my rehab therapy at lutheran shortly after being admitted. Once released i went to the shore rd center because its closer than 60th for sp[eech, ot and pt. My occupational therapist Romana is as intelligent and knowledgeable as it gets. She knows how to multiply herself when there are more than one patient as well. Her interns are well selected and experienced before coming. I couldnt ask for better people handling my recovery. She did her best to accomodate me with tools, info, props notes for work.. you name it. My physical therapist Lauren is also a godsend. We clicked right away. So professional yet cool. She has her doctrine, whats better? She does pt and helps out patients with other touchy sensitive problems. Evetyone there couldnt be nicer, they all interract great and give advice and wish you a nice night etc. Front desk :steven and jeanette are the best with planning appointments that fit YOU. we appreciate everyone so much, when we make cake at home, they get half of it. After goin since july 2011. I have upgraded 2 canes, walked up and down stairs, treadmill, moved my arm and hand which i thought was never possible, and overall self improved mentally with their guidance. Im back to work now and doing things like walk on a beach in puerto rico(this november) and swim in a pool. couldnt thank them enough. Try them out if your in need of some fixing. oh, and good luck, feel better

Mom is non ambulatory and screams when she is moved. Impossible for her to climb back in bed. She had to get stitches on the back of the head and broken hip. This happened in June. Other falls I received two or three different stories of what happened. Employee telling resident "I'll put you in the quiet room if you don't eat". Said three times during dinner- I was feeding mom and heard this. Employee sleeping while he is supposed to watch residents. I told manager he was sleeping and she had to wake him up. All residents do is sit in the living room with the tv on. No activities.. this is the second floor memory care. Sunrise has gone downhill in the last year. I moved my mom to another sunrise by me (out of state) and she is thriving. There is more but including bed sores that were not brought to my attention. And sunrise of Staten Island (narrows road), don't bother to respond to this. Your response is automated and if you wanted to know exactly what I witnessed, I already emailed you with my phone number.

Unfortunately however, when I had to use them again just recently, things changed for the worse. My mom was in the hospital for renal failure and needed a lot of help overnight. One of the aides assigned to my mom slept half the shift and when my mom had to wake her for help, she seemed bothered. One of the PCA's came in to the room to ask my mom if she needed a snack (my mom is diabetic) and the aide said "I'll have one please" and proceeded to get a sandwich, cake and a drink. I had to pay up front for 3 days upon hiring them. They are $23 per hour and you pay for the 10 hr shift, so $690 was quickly taken from my bank account. After complaining about the service, the administrator was extremely apologetic and very nice. She told me she would refund me that one shift, which sadly I never received. No weeks later I am receiving bills in the mail for the $690 again!!! Outrageous!! This company is very unorganized in their billing dept. I also think they need to start doing surprise visits of their aides overnight!! I was warned not to hire them by hospital staff, who told me that they always sleep! I didn't want to believe it since my first experience was great. Such a shame!! Never again!!
