Come to think of it, only ever been to one other B&B ever. So I didn't really know what to expect. Trafalgar Guest House is a quiet, well-placed, clean, comfortable guest house near the heart of Fareham. It is family-run and the prices are quite affordable for a single (£57 at the time I wrote this), and the room I was clearly recently refurbished. Furnishings a little on the girly-side, if that kind of thing bothers you, but I suspect this is de rigueur for most guest houses, and my own personal feeling is, "who cares, I'm just sleeping here." I was in an en suite, where the bathroom had clearly been retrofitted in the recent future. The retrofit, was...well...ugly. Not that it was done badly, but I just hate the look when you carve one room out of the other, that you don't take the new walls all of the way to the ceiling. I'm sure it makes it cheaper, and we're not talking the Ritz Paris, but I found it an unfortunate architectural aspect of my room. At this point, allow me to be really clear: I'm struggling hard to find anything substantively bad to say about this place! Breakfast was included in the tariff and good. Eggs on toast, cereal, juice and coffee. For location, it was a 5 minute walk to the pedestrian zone of Fareham town center, where there are restaurants, bars, pubs, cafes, etc. galore. For me, I was working in the nearby Whiteley Business Estate, which was roughly a 15 minute cab ride at around £12 one-way (cabs in Fareham, by the way, are super cheap). Fareham station is 10-15 minutes by foot. If you have a mind to explore the Portsmouth, Gosport, Southampton area, give this place a try. I think you'll enjoy it.

What we needed was a hotel that was convenient to the harbor, had restaurants and shopping within and easy walking distance, had comfortable beds and quiet rooms, offered a nice breakfast options, felt safe and was a reasonable price for this short and highly functional stopover. This hotel met every one of those needs. Exactly what you want before setting off on a voyage. Would I stay there for any other reason - no. Would I stay there again if leaving on another cruise out of Southampton - most definitely.

We paid top wack for what my family and I expected to be a 4* cottage and we are experiencing way more luxury and cleanliness in our 3* hotel. Cheap fixtures and fittings. Not finished to a high standard. Showers are painful to use as spray is overly aggressive. Curtains and bed covers were dusty resulting in 2 of us needing to take anti-allergy meds. We were woken 3 out of 5 nights at 4am by owners walking around outside on gravel. Makes this cottage a 2.5* at best! Not impressed! Seriously does Visit England really rate this cottage 4*? Shame as it's spacious and has good potential to be a nice home from home.

The cottage (we stayed in the Keeper's Cottage) included all the amentities you could want, such as comfy leather furniture, a dreamy superking comfy bed, good showers, and lovely original artwork by the owner in all of the rooms. Pretty, but not overdone at all. My partner was pleased that there were tv's and dvd players in all of the rooms and some DVD's were provided as well, along with games and loads of brochures offering ideas about what to do during our stay. Just as lovely as the inside, was the views from our personal gated patio. We looked over onto a quiet horse pasture which is known for featuring deer (though we didn't see any on our trip unfortunately). However, every morning when we woke up, a lovely dark brown rescue pony grazed just outside our bedroom window. Farm cats wandered by now and again, and fat curious chickens came for a visit every day as well. These were the same chickens who provided us with farm fresh eggs for breakfast. It was incredibly peaceful hearing the horses neighing across the field to one another or the owls hooting in the evenings. Just the sort of romantic get-away we had been craving. That being said, there's plenty of room in the cottage for groups too. However, if you opt to leave everyone else at home like we did, there is often a discount available for only using one of the two bathrooms and/or not using the extra bedroom. This isn't as central a location to the New Forest as lots of other cottage options, but you can't beat it for privacy and solitude. The owners seem like very kind people who seem to be up for a chat if we want one, but more than happy to leave us alone if we prefer it, which we respected. We loved that all the fixings for tea and/or coffee with yummy biscuits was waiting for us when we arrived. I can't say enough good things and we can't wait to go back again someday!

The room was spacious enough for 3 worn plenty of electrical outlets. The bathroom was clean and so was the room overall. I was impressed considering it is considered a "budget hotel". The paid for breakfast was very good. There were English and American breakfast choices with juices, teas and coffees. Its proximity to the cruise port and dining is great. We were able to walk across the street to the West Quay Mall and a variety of restaurants. I do recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

One didn't have enough AC, and the other one the toilet did not flush properly. Also there was no telephone in the room. I could not reach the front desk unless I walked back down to them. Not very safe in my opinion. The price was reasonable given its location.

Nearly as big as the bedroom and nicely remodeled with high quality appointments- watch out Hilton. With nice tile work, modern shower, heated town rack, new sink and faucet. You can't go wrong. The lady is so nice and accommodating. The breakfast is lovely. It starts as you would expect with choices of traditional English breakfast, but then goes far above with crepes, kipper, poached eggs. This is a very well kept house as you can see from the photographs, but you have to see it in real life to really appreciate the time and effort that they have put into making their guest feel welcome. The atmosphere is both friendly and helpful to both foreign guests and local business customers alike. This is what I would call a guest house and a bit more on top. Absolutely everything has been thought of!

I attended a wedding here…read more First when making the booking as per the wedding rate, they confirmed over the telephone, and confirmed different details by e-mail. I had to chase them to get the right details. When booking in, I said I would pay for both rooms. They required a credit card, which was fine, and then asked for another for the other room. I got them to finally understand I was paying for both rooms. I have no problem with hotels employing Eastern European staff, but those on the reception desk must have a good command of the English language. The room was OK, not brilliant, but OK. It is a 3 star after all. The en-suite was quite big, and designed for the disabled. Requested the use of an iron and ironing board, after three requests it finally arrived. The ironing board was stained, and it was only when I was using it to iron my sons new shirt that I realised that the stain was coming through onto the shirt. I was livid. I managed to disguise it as best as I could. Children can only eat in the restaurant before a certain time, and I think it was 5:30 pm, not absolutely sure of the time, but it was difficult for us. So we ate out. The arrangements for the wedding were very good, and the food was fine. Breakfast was something else. Waiting too long, and there was only three tables being used, so not rushed off their feet. One of the waitresses was sullen, and almost dropped the plate in front of you. They were less than attentive. It is not a hotel I'd choose to stay at if visiting Bournemouth again.

This is rather nice. Very very nice…read more I went to a 'do' here, and this is also used by a local school for Balls (as in dancing and wining). We had champagne on the frontsteps and patio. There is a sweeping driveway, which makes for great photo opportunities as the students arrive for their ball. The gardens are exquisite and the entrance to the hotel truly romantic. Except it's not the entrance. You have to drive to the back of the hotel on Grove Road. The 'front' of the hotel overlooks the sea. This hotel is very tasteful with out being overly grand. I'd love to stay there sometime.

They put us all up in triple rooms right at the top.Good we were all together and not annoying other people. It's walkable to town,but if you're in your heels i'd grab a cab. I thought for the price we were paying it was going to be awful, we were on a budget. But i was very pleasantly suprised! My friend returned with her boyfriend month after. She said again it was really good. I would def stay here again the next time i go down. x
