Fun one mile shopping area and eating area in SOHO located in the west end of Westminster. No cars allowed, only pedestrians. After having a tasty snack at Pizza Pilgrims, went to the two story Rolling Stones store which was my favorite place on Carnaby Street. A bunch of boutique shops and found one bathroom and a drinking fountain. There was an old English style red phone booth containing an unspeakable object on the floor inside, good conversation piece for the rest of my trip. Welcome to London. read more

One of my absolute favorite places to shop when in London. I'll never pass up a chance to trek down to Carnaby street as the shopping and dining options are elite. For any one of my friends traveling into London I always recommend veering off a little to Carnaby. Over the years some shops have come and go but some of my favorites remain open. I'm a huge Great Frog lover and their shop is nearby, also for us rock n rollers I can't help stopping into The Rolling Stones Uk store. Lots of major branded stores but also cute local vendors and stores. It's a very walkable street and safe. Plenty busy so come earlier in the day to beat the crowds. Another pro tip is catching a reservation at dishshoom down here as I've found it easier to snag a reservation here than at their other locations. Plenty of dining options though and local stalls like Starbucks and Joe & the juice. It's a touristy street of shops but I love it - definitely bookmark this area on your must shop / see list when on this side of town. read more

Due to the reviews I went in with expectations of an unusual market with perhaps unique and interesting gift shops. Carnaby Street is literally just an outdoor mall. If you're from the Bay Area, it's essentially Broadway Plaza. There's nothing particularly unique about it and the shops along the way are brands you would see in any high end mall. Aventura Mall in Florida is a more interesting visit while containing quite a few of the same brands. Frankly, it's not worth a special trip and I would only visit if I were in the area. read more

Imagine it's 1966 and you're desperate to be part of the cool crowd in London. You'd have a pixie haircut like Twiggy and wear a day-glo mini-shirt with matching go-go boots designed by Mary Quant. You'd be doing the watusi to the Dave Clark Five and showing up in an Austin Powers flashback as the girl in the cage. And that's if you were a bird. London boys would be wearing ruffle shirts and paisley bell-bottoms. It's not that I expected time to be frozen on this shopping street, but I guess I was hoping for something a bit more mod and a tad more smashing. Yes, I get the Haute Couture scene, restaurants on every corner, and the aura of supermodel icon Twiggy everywhere, but hmm. I do know that in the swinging sixties, it was a popular spot for way cool mods. Young Paul McCartney met wife, Linda, here. As I walked around in circles... I still think... Did I see all of Carnaby? In fairness to Carnaby and the regulars that roam the area... maybe I needed a mini tour or a Londoner to give me the highlights and insider tips? I guess if I close my eyes I can hear the smooth Moody Blues playing in a English pub nearby. I dream of the tight psychedelic mini skirts and go-go boots on every bird that pass me by. I smell the scent of aquanet and imagine gayer times... A little birdie told me... 1) Come during Christmas - when it's all festive! 2) Come on the weekends - when it's busiest! I did bump into a Lambretta shop that just closed for the day. I did find Kua'aina Burgers tucked on a side street that took me by surprise. I did see my metro reflection in Burberry's display window... still thinking is that it? Hey, I can't be blown away with everything Brit. Oh well, I've seen Carnaby. I'm Duke, Mmk. Historic Liberty (store) was the coolest part of me' wanderlust'n. The rest just a'right. I'll bump up a star due to Twiggy's eyelashes! Ta! It's one of the fanciest shopping streets in London, but be sure to visit at least for the holiday lights if you're there in winter. And this winter?! IT WAS A QUEEN BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY tribute in lights. It was amazing. Every few feet displayed another line of lyrics above you in neon lights. It was magical. There are several side streets that jut off this street and have different lights and beautiful cafes, restaurants and well-known stores. read more

After strolling through the Piccadilly Circus area, I really wanted to shop local London and hit up a few unique places. Our guide, a local friend brought us to Carnaby Street. As I turned the corner and saw the colorful sign and the older historic buildings, I was pleased to start exploring. There's a mix between a large department store - Liberty, many smaller boutique shops and name brand smaller stores, and pubs. There's so much going on and it was a lot of fun to shop in this area, compared to the other parts of town we had been - but each had it's own unique vibe and customer. Carnaby Street was one of my favorite places to shop and browse the storefront windows. read more

Very beautiful and touristy location- although most people there are locals which is a nice touch. Every store possible on every corner. Feels like it's never ending, left right, whichever direction you go, you're bound to find unique and beautifully designed stores. Carnaby Street is a pedestrianised area of Soho, London centred around the street of the same name and is just off Oxford Street/Circus, offering a really different vibe to the shopping scene on offer in the city which is perhaps its' only selling point - it has a nice amount of the more independent boutique stores which are rarely situated so close together in London, even brands such as PUMA who don't have many stores in the UK have locations here - you have a few big brands to get a drink too including one of the better branches they have in central London of Starbucks, and a PRET across the way from that. My biggest issue with Carnaby Street is the construction of the stores - nearly every store is up to one large or a couple of steps, so this is probably the least disabled-friendly area in London which certainly isn't right for such a large, popular area of W1 Central London. - Even parts of the pavements leading up Carnaby Street's main shopping areas are narrow, steep and not always clean of debris (businesses leaving bins on few dropped curbs which I'm sure is illegal if not it's just poor form) It is one of the fanciest and higher-end shopping streets of a whole, while Oxford Street offers the high-end department stores, here offers those boutique stores so it doesn't mean you'll see a cheaper retailer amongst a more expensive one as you would at Oxford Street but for me, they could do more in broadcasting the individual street-names and making it laid out better for pedestrians to follow - as well as improving disabled access as a whole. 2* read more

Every nook and cranny in London is so architecturally stunning, and carnaby street is no exception. What makes this street special are the quirky light decorations that line the street. I was here during the Christmas season and the street was lined with lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody. You can also bar hop here and do a bit of shopping at the same time. While reagent street is lined with designer shops, you can find more affordable brands and boutiques here. read more

Great place to walk around and lots of shopping choices! It's also close to Oxford Street so you can continue shopping there. In the evenings and even day it's pretty crowded. I actually suggest getting off before Trafalgar Square and walking to save time in traffic (plus it's a beautiful walk!) Carnaby Street had its heyday in the 60s and today, it still has some eclectic shops but a lot of chain stores have moved in as well. I don't tend to shop here often but today, I was most impressed with Carnaby Street today. I was passing through the area on my way to Regent Street when I thought there was something wrong with my ears. Yes, it was the sound of a piano and singing. So I followed my ears and lo and behold, in the middle of Carnaby Street was a good old sing-a-long. It was Swinging Carnaby weekend and as part of the celebration, they had a live pianist, 2 assistants to hand out song sheets to the crowd and lead the singing though everyone seemed to be up for it and singing with gusto. It's the best fun I've had on the street for a long time! The feel good factor was in evidence here today. 4 stars for Carnaby Street but 5 stars for the sing-a-long. read more

This is a really cute shopping street that is decorated with big painted birds ("Carnaby Robins") strewn across the street in the winter. It is known for fun, oversized Christmas decorations including giant snowmen and singing mistletoe. They host a lot of fun events here too including a parade. This area has lovely restaurants and fun, quirky shops too. This street isn't a must on a first visit to London, but it's worth a wander on a repeat visit, especially if you're in London during the winter holidays! read more

Sooooo much better than Oxford Street. I love the 3 story "food court" with so many cool choices and great vibes. Not as crowded except for the bars which seem to be spilling over to the street despite it being like a Tuesday at 4pm. You Brits do know how to party! read more

Carnaby Street is pretty awesome and located right in the middle of town just next to Liberty. The street is teeming with boutiques, pubs, shops and great little restaurants and cafes. At Christmas time, the place looks particularly festive - this year big giant marshmallow-style snowmen lined the street from above. Truly awesome. Kingly Court is situated in the middle of Carnaby Street - a great little shopping hub with some awesome vintage stores, beauty parlors and boutiques. The street is usually totally full of tourists as you can imagine but if you've the patience to explore this great little shopping street then please do, it's a great place for the avid shopper. read more

If you are trying to browse but want to avoid the crazy scene on Regent street, shuffle one street over to your right and you will have Carnaby street. This street is filled with mainly mainstream shops you would find in a regular Westfield Mall (Scotch & Soda, Adidas, Office, Boots, etc.). It's a quieter street to get all your upcoming Christmas shopping done but if you want your fill of flagship stores (Superdry, All Saints, etc.), I'm afraid you must embrace the carnage and scooch your butt back on Regent (on a brighter note, it's not as crowded on weekday mornings). read more

In the 60's this street swang and grooved with the best of them. Girls wearing shoes with platforms with more vertical inches than their skirts tottered though between getting their hair bouffed by Vidal Sassoon or make up done by Mary Quant, passing generation peace-ers, wearing the asexual uniform of jeans, paisley shirts, love beads and long hair sifting though the stores wafting with incense at the other end of the street. So now it's famous. And people want to go there. But be warned - the days of free love and free lunches have passed and now the closest you're going to get to the 60's on Carnaby Street is the name of one of the stores, Miss Sixty... New mods can shop at Ben Sherman and Lambretta, and Miss Sixty may have something for girls wanting to reference the hippy chick, but the selection of stores now is more about who can pay the premium rents asked for a piece of central London prime pedestrian only retail real estate, so you've got your Boss, your Diesel and your Pepe Jeans. Kingly Court, above Ben Sherman still sells clothing from the heyday of Carnaby Street, naturally it's all vintage now - but the prices would keep a 60's commune in substances for a year. Liberty watches over the serious top end, just off Oxford Street while the Soho end is now the field of sports stores, so the variety's improved, but at the cost of the atmosphere. If you're looking for an authentic London 60's fashion shopping experience you're better off trying the markets, but as an extension of Oxford and Regent Street this is a quieter, safer corner due to the lack of traffic. Café Stop: The options are a bit bland - Pret, Starbucks...but luckily round the corner is Sacred, where they'll serve you loose leaf tea blended specially in mismatched teapots and coffee like they should - hold out for it - definitely one of the best things about shopping here! read more

I work just off Carnaby Street on Golden Square and love to try it's bars, restaurants and cafés at the quieter times of day. If you want to get a table outside in the sun then there's little point in going during busy lunch periods or early evening. With it's close proximity to Oxford Street and Regent Street you could end up battling even for pavement space amoungst the floods of tourists and shoppers. It's a good spot for shopping in friendly-sized stores too, I CAN'T STAND huuuge shops like TopShop on Oxford Street. read more

I've only been to Carnaby Street once on a weekend. And I'll never go again. There are just way too many tourists and shoppers trying to maneuver their ways through the narrow streets. But...come here during the middle of the day, during the middle of the week, and you'll have a quite pleasant experience. I've never had luck finding anything to buy on Carnaby Street so it will never be my first choice. But, if I happen to find myself in the area I might just pop by for a quick look. read more

Love this street. I haven't been here for a while. I used to come here often when I was younger. it's hasn't changed a great deal. I'm told that back in the 60's this was one of the coolest places to shop in London. Now I suspect it's just lives on its former glory days. Carnaby Street is a pedestrian street near Oxford Circus. It's very quiet and peaceful there (I maybe have this impression because of Oxford Street nearby). It's very relaxing there. There are bars and cafés, small brand and designer shops. The first time I went there was because I wanted to buy some stuff at the Puma store. The second time was to meet friends at the café Sacred on Ganton Street (off Carnaby Street). I loved it straight away! No car, good atmosphere! Just great! read more

This is a relatively broad paved shopping street completely closed to car traffic. With its calm pace and not a slightest glimpse of overcrowding, it indeed offers a brilliant contrast to the nearby Oxford and Regent streets. The unique atmosphere this area generates resembles the high streets of smaller regional English towns, much simpler and more relaxed than the central London's haphazard and fast-paced life. There are some good, mainly casual shops, like Hilfiger, Boss Orange, Diesel, etc and a large Boots pharmacy. Some decent options for a meal or drinks are available too. read more
