And then they have lovely ice cream and pancakes for dessert. Well, you can imagine how I rolled out the door of this place - never eaten so much in my life! Just goes to show this is really tasty food and an all round good experience. Watch your plates pile high, your food cook and laugh with your friends as you enjoy a competition of who can eat the most plates of food. Just be careful the chefs don't give your masterpiece to someone else - it's hard to keep up with who's who on a busy night!

At Gengy's you grab your dish and heard around the obstacle course popping whatever you want into your bowl. There's meats, salads, sauces, oils, spices galore. Then you take this over to the awesome 'cooking pit' where someone slaps all your selections onto a hot plate and cooks it for you. This is an opportunity to see how good of a chef you would be. Personally I found it took me a few times to get the hang of it. My first few plates were such a mish mash of flavours it was hard to know what was going on. After you have stuffed yourself to the brim with mains there is desert. Pancakes and ice cream and chocolatey sauces. And again... all you can eat!! Wear your elastic pants and go with an empty stomach!

From meat, vegetables, sauces, salads, breads and soups, to pancakes and ice cream, the buffet…read morespread at Gengis Khan has got to be one of the most extensive I have seen! As the name suggests, it's named after the Mongolian warrior, Genghis Khan. The food itself isn't Mongolian, but apparently this is how Genghis Khan fed his army after a brutal battle. Fun fact, huh? The basic concept of the Mongolian BBQ is simple. First, you fill a bowl up with raw meats (namely chicken, beef, lamb, and seafood), vegetables, sauces, oils and noodles. I'm not too much of a meat expert but I thought their meats were of fairly good quality. Then, you take it up to the chefs manning the huge hotplate in the middle of the restaurant, and watch them cook your selection to perfection (hey, that rhymed)! There is also fried rice and white rice available, as well as garlic bread, baked root vegetables and soups. For the vegetarians out there, not only do they have a wide range of vegetables that can be cooked by the chefs, there are plenty of fresh selections at the salad bar. To round your meal off, you can get the chefs to dish you up a pancake. If you ask nicely, they might even be able to make you one in the shape of Mickey Mouse. The pancakes are probably my highlight of the dining experience - super fluffy and they also have a variety of toppings and ice cream which you can put on them. The downside of this place is that it is quite small and it does get very busy. There will be times where you have to wait a while for the chef to cook your meal - my longest wait was nearly 30 minutes! Overall, the atmosphere of Gengis Khan is exciting, although a little noisy at times. Considering that you can eat all to your heart's content, the price is quite reasonable. It is a casual, family-friendly restaurant, so it's definitely more suited for family gatherings. I frequented this place quite often during my high school years, but I feel like I've 'grown out of it'... mainly because most of their patrons are either families or large groups of teenagers. Just make sure that you go hungry!

Doesn't seem so large from the entrance but it actually goes in quite deep with their brick walls and maze of pipes along ceiling to extract steam and BBQ smells as you cook. Many partitioned areas by miniature, rice-paper windowed old-Korean 'house walls' on either sides of the wooden tables. It is self serve tea and water- which is found halfway in their restaurant- so don't forget to pick some up. They have a large plate of side dishes to nibble on before your mains or with your mains, if there is any left (yum). A big fan of the sweet potato, but there was also spice courgette, broccoli and thin pieced tofu. We all ordered different dishes- if you feel like seafood, I'd recommend their Hot and spicy fish roe soup. It definitely was hot- so be prepared for blowing on the soup. Was jam packed in a large black stone bowl with mung bean, mussel, courgette and fish roe- which I learned was an interesting looking though yum-enough sac of fish eggs. The Dolsot arrived in a sizzling stone pot and is a bibimbap made up of steamed rice mixed with various eggs and vegetables. Also got the Yook Gae Jang which was beef and vege in hot and spicy soup. All of it was delicious and definitely filling. They take reservations if you're worried or have quite a group. The staff are super friendly and the food is good as well as affordable- what's not to love.

Somehow the missus managed to convince me to give it a go with a 3-course dinner voucher and I couldn't say no! Firstly, the menu - it left me a bit bamboozled as to How can a bar and grill have Chicken Masala with Roti?? It's just unfair to the Indian cuisine! Then the serving size - I felt short changed when it came to just 4 prawns with a runny sauce and some salad leaves - $16! See picture - the taste was alright and the prawns were cooked well - but flavours lacked punch. I hoped the oven roasted Salmon fillet with risotto would revive their dwindling reputation but again - lack of seasoning and a thin strip of salmon with a soggy skin failed to excite - $28.50! By now our hopes for an epic dessert were shattered and we picked the simplest of options for our sweet tooth - what was presented was again something I could probably cook up in my sleep - not thy there was any cooking involved but at $10.50 a pop - the lemon curd and kiwi fruit tart was straight out of the countdown cold dessert aisle with plain jane tip top vanilla ice cream scoops on top some slices of oranges n kiwi fruit and a few grapes with strawberry syrup in a floral pattern - DO NOT A DESSERT MAKE! I fail to understand how restaurants can get away with pricing like this - I think we were served smaller than usual portions as well owing to the voucher. Rest assured - the Takapuna branch of Buffalo Bar n Grill left nothing more to write about. The pictures will speak for themselves. Avoid.

I am quite a fan of Nandos Have been visiting the Nandos…read morerestaurants for many years now in a few countries as well. I ordered my usual 8 BBQ ribs meal from this branch and I received my meal. It was totally overcooked and the chicken was rubbery. I confronted one of the staff about this. The cook had come out to query the problem and I told him the same thing. He argued with me and didn't want to accept responsibility for his rubbery chicken he plated and sent out to a paying customer! I have never complained about my BBQ ribs in the past, until I visited this particular restaurant. He cooked a new set of BBQ ribs and that was more satisfactory than the first inedible ribs he sent out. However wasn't the best that I have received comparing to the other restaurants I have been to. I WON'T be visiting this particular restaurant again!

I have been a Nando's fan for very long time recently I have been visiting the Wairau Valley branch…read morequite often as it is conveniently located near to one of my franchised store. I am absolutely disgusted with the treatment I have received over the last week or so from the manager at the branch a Mr Gejo Samuel. Previously on several occasions I have spoken the store manager that my request of extra crispy chips has not been completed even though I have double confirm this over the phone order what the staff member taking the order. What is the point to give instructions over the phone while making the order if they will simply be disregarded? I do not believe I am being unreasonable all I am requesting is for the chips to be cooked a bit longer so they can be crispy instead of the soggy style that they are currently producing. Mr Gejo has made it explicitly clear that I am no longer welcome in that store by using profound language. Mr Gejo actions clearly reflect on the brand integrity of Nando's New Zealand. It is simply disgusting to see that your management staff has absolutely no respect towards their customers. I strongly believe that Mr Gejo Samuel auctions today have proven he is a very rude and condescending person as he simply goes around showing his attitude and patronizing superiority. This is just not on !!!
