    Double California Classic

Oh my goodness! If you are looking for an amazing sloppy burger you MUST try this place. No hangover will survive this food :P The burger were all amazing, smash burger style that had the crispiest edges, sauces were amazing and the buttery bun was delightful. The Stern Fries could have been a meal on its own, fries covered in caramelized onions and special sauce. I would go back just for these. We ordered through Uber Eats and everything showed up warm, the fries surprisingly still had a crisp to them.

Is it just me or does everyone just get that random urgent craving for a juicy burger? And by urgent I mean, you start salivating just by thinking about that slice of beef between cheese and bread and your mouth just won't stop drooling. Yup, that was me in between the natural food section at Superstore in South Edmonton Common. Didn't get very far before the bright shiny sign got my attention,The Burger Priest! Yes! They opened a location all the way south, convenient? No, not really on the daily but in this case, I was in a crisis and it was there. Lucky me. Last time I had Burger Priest was when they first opened their location Downtown, I really enjoyed their burger, especially Peter's Denial. This burger run was a less indulgent one. Their lunch special had their standard cheeseburger with an order of fries and a drink all for $10. Heck Ya! We both had an order of that and decided to share their Mint Chocolate Chip milkshake.($4.95) The satisfaction of that first bite into that burger was gratifying. The patty was juicy and meaty with residual fat juices dripping down and soaking the bread with extra fat and flavor. I had given their downtown location a pretty high rating before and it's trailing for this location too. Biggest difference was service here, everyone was really friendly and the wait for food was barely 10 minutes. The consistency of delivering such satisfaction between both locations with just a simple burger, remarkable. Milkshake was less impressive, being more watery and not as strong in flavor than you'd expect from the name. Portion of fries was kind of ridiculous, definitely could have shared just the one bag, but we got to snack on the rest of them on the drive home. You're getting your money's worth with the lunch special for sure!

Bigger than the downtown location and seems like it's a lot cleaner too. It's not very busy too which I like it. The quality of the food is pretty good and the staff is polite and helpful. I should probably come to this place on a weekend to see how the experience is when it's busier. I had "Holy Smokes" and I enjoyed deep fried jalapeños in it. I always enjoy old fashion fries and these guys make it pretty good.

We came here and I got the California burger. It was super greasy but really tasty. It had sauteed onions and the bun was squished and grilled.. we also ordered fries, gravy and a cookie. Great greasy burger with lots of flavor!

Checked out this new place in south common today. Love my burgs so this has ben on my list of places to try for a bit. First off they have the standard menu items for a burger place: burgs, fries and milkshakes! Yum! Of course I'm on a diet so didn't have the milkshake but oh man I have to try it soon. The burger itself has a very nice taste and it's not dry. I has the keto bun and it wasn't half bad. Where there are opportunities though is the ant of lettuce and sauce. I like a good amount of lettuce and they has a thin piece. Also they barely has any sauce. I like my burgs to be somewhat messy without overpowering the meat taste. May have been an off day so am willing to go back. Their menu choices were different than the regular type offered.

The name of this place really caught my eye as I felt captivated to check this place out. I went in with a lot of high expectations, but the second I walked through the doors, it all came crashing down. The ambience was somewhat down and depressing with black and white throughout. There was biblical scripture on one of the walls that ran from top to bottom, where I lost interest after reading about three lines. The service was indifferent: The staff consisted of millennials in their late teens, who were neither rude or friendly, and seemed as they would rather be somewhere else. Then was the issue of the price... Including tip, I paid about 18 bucks for a burger and fries, well at least I had thought. Upon leaving the establishment, I realized that there was a cooler where people grabbed their drinks which may have been a part of the combo. As I drove home frustrated and thirsty, I was debating if it was my lack of assertiveness or that the attendant did not inform me of the available drinks for my selection. Aside from my gripes, the food was very tasty. I ordered the 'High Priest' burger combo(burger and fries). Quoting Jules Winfield from the movie, Pulp Fiction-"It was indeed a tasty burger!" It was a double patty, with cheese, lettuce, and pickle. My best description would be that it had the best characteristics of what a burger should have: juicy, ample, and flavourful meat in good proportion to the bun. Although it was a double patty with cheese, the bun kept it all together without it falling apart. The fries were also delicious. Overall, I felt conflicted that although the burger offered something more than your MacDonald's or A@W, the service was somewhat of a let down and therefore may not be worth the extra cash.

I was looking forward to trying this Canadian chain as I'd heard good things. The decor was cool, and the place was clean, and the staff were all friendly. Many things on the menu looked delicious, but I eventually decided on the special edition "Esau's Birthright", described as a burger with mushrooms, grilled onions, swiss cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce and premium beef patty. Sounds amazing, right? Unfortunately however the burger was only average. It was oddly tasteless; couldn't even tell there was cheese or BBQ sauce on it, and had to add ketchup just to get a little flavour. Even the bacon wasn't very noticeable. It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great. Honestly, given the choice I'll go to A&W next time, where their burgers have more taste and calorie counts conveniently available also.

Once this location opened up in the south common area I was super excited seeing as I would have to make the trek down town if I was craving a double California. I definitely prefer this location much better than the one in downtown as I find that the staff in downtown is super rude and never seem as if they're happy to see you. That being said, the staff in the south common, despite the bad reviews, are always super friendly towards me whenever I'm ordering from them! There are off days where I'll encounter a little attitude from the cashiers but I know everyone has bad days sometimes. My regular order is always the California classic, the buttered buns are TO. DIE. FOR. And I always pair it with chilli cheese fries if I'm super super hungry. The portion they give you on the burgers is fairly standard sized, but a bit pricey averaging 7-13 dollars per burger. But i believe it's worth it since it's not an average burger! The chili cheese fries are a huge portion. I love coming here when I'm craving a burger and need a good fix for some greasy (but not super greasy) food

Double flatty: 10/10, great flavor, great bun, great meat flavor and moist. Poutine: sadly I hated the gravy but boyfriend liked it. Fries underneath were super crisp and yummy. Next time I'd like to try the fries with "dip". Pickle: boyfriend loved. Great crunch considered the size. Mini key lime pie: 10/10. Crust and filling were both great. A little too much for 1 person post-meal but great size to share and available for takeout too. Milkshake: 10/10 so authentic, creamy, coffee flavor wasn't very strong. Loved that you could see them use the cool milkshake cups, add soft serve, blend.

Burgers are made fresh and smashed just right, not too thin that they crumble at the edges or fall apart in the bun. All burgers are two patty minimum. The most basic burger costs $12, and comes with cheese and a ton of fresh veggie and traditional toppings. A burger combo is $17 and includes a drink. Upgrade to a poutine or a milkshake for a couple of bucks. Their fries are really good, chunky and made fresh. Haven't tried the milkshakes. Proper old-school burger joint food. Compare with fast food and other small local burger places. A quarter pounder at McD's costs $8 these days, crazy. At places like Woodshed or Foxburger, you can't get just a burger, and prices start at $14 (single patty no cheese) or even $20. Drinks are extra. I love these local burger places too, but the burger quality is similar in my opinion, and I really like the style of burger served here. Let's Smash has the Goldilocks "just right" kind of smash, the burger buns hold up to the contents, and the toppings are fresh and flavourful though not as fancy as other places. One time though, I had a burger here that was topped with gyro toppings, specifically the pickled veggies, and it was delicious. We always sit in, there's plenty of seating space, and usually some soccer or European music contests on the TV at a low volume. Service is efficient, order at the counter and have a seat. No alcohol service means less trouble, which is nice for lunch or early supper on Jasper Ave. We generally get friendly service and have never felt forgotten or neglected for the steady stream of delivery drivers.

But we have 2 kids and 2 adults so it worked out for us! The kids menu items are a hot dog, a cheeseburger or Mac and cheese. All the portions for the kids looked really big which I appreciated. My boys are eaters and it was nice to see that they got just as many French fries on their plate as an adult portion. And PS the garlic fries are amazing!!! I'm so happy we got 3 orders of the garlic fries and I was curious and tried the animal fries as well- they were different...tasty but definitely a unique taste. The closest I can describe it is cheese wiz and mustard and caramelized onions. Very potent, I saw they have an Animal burger which probably uses that same mixture combo. Animal fries cost an extra $4 so for the extra cost I would probably just go with the garlic fries every time because they don't have an extra cost. I ordered the most popular Bacon Pepper Smash ($21 single $25 double) and really enjoyed the flavor and the price was on point. Smash sauce, pickled peppers, bacon, American cheddar, iceberg. The single was definitely enough for myself but with the thinner patties I could see why some people order the double. Hubby had the Inferno ($21 single $25 double) Inferno sauce, pickled peppers, crispy fried onions, American Swiss, iceberg. The sauce was spicy! Good but spicy! And it kind of overpowered the whole thing. Parking down the side street was a bit of a walk but not terrible and right beside this place is a cool looking liquor store and Kind Ice Cream across the road. The space itself was pretty big and we felt like we weren't too smushed up on booth next to the next table. Bathrooms are downstairs, mind your head! And there was a baby change table in the women's bathroom.
