I've also just discovered it's now called the Allanwater Brewhouse! A group of us visited here on Saturday night. I'd never been to Bridge of Allan but was pleasantly surprised at what a nice area it seemed to be. The brewery is off the main road and it can be a little confusing where to go but thankfully we stumbled through the right door (look for people milling around in the beer garden, and then go in there!). Inside it's a pretty interesting space to sit in - high ceiling, lots of beers adorning the walls as well as beer paraphernalia and a cosy, well worn vibe. We ended up sitting right by the fire (which, although it wasn't on was still warm) on beer kegs with cushions which was a really cosy spot. For a Saturday night it was busy but not heaving so it was good to be able to get a seat and have a chat without it being too noisy or cramped. I didn't go up the bar myself so can't comment on the staff or prices, but they seemed to have an interesting selection of beers (mango) and I enjoyed my oj & lemonade (haha!).

An old pub, the main bar area is pretty cozy to say the least. About the size of a decent double bedroom. Despite this, I was assured by one of the welcoming regulars that they recently had 36 people in at one time. He did admit however that, "they all knew each other very well by the end of the evening". With an open fireplace in the room, I was also advised of the system adopted on a cold day where everyone periodically shuffles round clockwise to avoid some poor soul getting toasted by the flames. We enjoyed a chat with the landlord and regulars whilst sipping a few bottles of Caer Edin Dark from the aforementioned Kinneil Brew Hoose. The 5 star rating reflects the friendliness of all we met and the undoubted character of the place. I highly recommend a visit to this pub for everyone but the unfortunately claustrophobic.

The food did take a while to come out but we were treated to a lovely crustini each free of charge whilst waiting. When our food came it was really good. My only niggle would be that the chips are of the bog standard frozen variety and to be honest, good chips aren't hard to do so there's no need for that. I think 4 of us had steak, all cooked differently (from blue right through to cremated) and they were all considered spot on. For me, they had medium rare down to a tee! We had 4 bottles of house wine on the table, 2 red (1 merlot and 1 shiraz) and 2 white (both Sauv Blanc), myself and my great uncle polished off the reds and I can tell you they were both very, very drinkable. Certainly too drinkable for a school night anyroads, ahem. The food is good value for money and prices are very reasonable although I am suspicious that this is do with the fact they're not well known outwith the local area. Everything had great portions and tasted wonderful. We as tourists were given suggestions on places to visit for the day and they all were super friendly and helpful. Super quaint and cute place. If I visit again this is now a must stop.

It's actually very large and spacious inside, with lots and lots of seating. The decor is warm, muted, comfortable and done to quite a high standard. There isn't a huge amount of character or atmosphere, but you can't have everything. We had a couple of drinks, which were very nice indeed, and ordered lunch from some grubby, sticky menus. The waiter took our order from the table, instead of us needing to go to the bar to order, which is a nice touch for a pub. The food was really tasty! Myself and my party all seemed to find it really good, decent quality and portion sizes. For the price, which was very reasonable, I don't think you could fault it much.
