Then, we had a tasting towards the end and got to taste some really good single malts while learning how to taste them. The staff inside were super friendly. Getting to this place is a big task though, and the bigger and more difficult task is getting out of there if you have don't have your own car. We reached the spot using Uber but we couldn't find any Uber or taxi service to get out and into the city. There is a bus stop right opposite and the bus did not stop. We tried asking the security guard for some help as the staff left and no one were in there, but he kinda shooed us away. That was very rude. Then, we had to walk a lot to reach a train station.

This is a live distillery so it was fantastic to experience a functioning business and the steps and history behind the production of this mellow whiskey. My only complaint is that machines are very loud so it was difficult at times to hear our tour guide so be sure to get up close to him/her, they won't be creeped out or maybe they will be who cares you have paid for the experience. At the end of the tour we got to relax in the bar and have a whiskey, it really was a lovely end to a great week in a very cool city!

The whisky is produced in the highlands and matured in the lowlands which is just across the street. I was there last week on a beautiful sunny day, our tour guide Jimmy was fabulous! Young guy, exuberant, knowledgeable, funny and engaging. We were there with a group of Germans, whose English was so-so, Jimmy slowed down his speech and articulated his words to give them a chance to understand what he was saying. The history of Glengoyne was very interesting, learning how whisky is made was cool, seeing the guys at work was an added bonus. The actual tasting gave us insight into how to smell, swirl to see how the whisky coats the glass and to taste different aged malts. They are all single malts here, ranging from 10 - 30 years, although they have a few rare collectibles. The rarest being a 56 year old bottle from 1969. They are aged in sherry and oak barrels. Definitely a great tour & worth the money. The gift shop has all sorts of things in various price ranges also.

It is just really interesting to enjoy beer that has such a long history and stories behind them. One good example is the Heather Ale was Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. which is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. I just love micro brewery like Williams Bros!

Only complaint about Sarah Janes is that it is very small, the tables and chairs are diner style and if you are anything larger than a supermodel then your belly tends to hit the table. Also can't comment on the gents toilets but the ladies loos are box sized, if you lean forward while sitting on the loo your head will be likely to hit the door. It does also not have any disabled access but they do normally have a few tables and chairs outside on dry days. Lack of disable access is probably due to the size of the place.

I've been here a couple of times now (no reception = no check ins, Boo!) as my work services various places up in the trossachs so if we are doing a run check or have meetings with clients, we usually nip in here on the way down the road. They always have fresh cakes on display that they make themselves (the carrot and the gingerbread are 2 particular favourites ;) ), the boss usually has some form of roll, I hear good things about the bacon in particular. I'd love to come out here late enough for lunch one day, the menu looks fantastic and as far as can be is all locally sourced stuff, they even have a few of the local ales on the drinks menu! The staff are very attentive and friendly and are really knowlegable about the menu and their sources, so brownie points to them for that. I lived across the road from this…read moreestablishment for three years and they have seen my through tears, tantrums, crippling hangovers, excruciating early morning lectures, looming dissertation deadlines and times of extreme caffeine dependency - some of the staff have become great friends of mine and are lovely and helpful and happy people! (Tip well guys! :P) This place has got a very chilled out, laid back vibe. It's the kind of place after you've been a few times, they remember your order and your favourite seat. The coffee is reasonably priced BUT remember to flash your student card for a little extra discount! Also, if you buy a coffee before 10am you get free refills all day which was always a great incentive for me to be up and at 'em before the morning rush! There is also a good selection of cakes and snacks on offer (the cheese and bacon toasties are delish!) and soup for lunchtime hunger pangs. They also have a reasonable selection of soft drinks and milkshakes on offer and an amazing selection of weirdly named teas (try the Magic Tea, it's a revelation.) It's also open til 8pm which is a bonus! The Burgh is also available for events too - I've attended group German lessons there, a Lush party, an SSP meeting, an open mic night and even had a tutor hold a seminar in the place. I'm pretty sure it's free to book so it's great for wee gatherings in a nice cosy setting. There's a vast selection of board games on offer too, as well as hundreds of donated to books to simply flick through or to buy with a donation. Free WIFI too - it became my study sanctuary for a year or too! Settle in to one of their comfy sofas or their more private booths and drift away with a Gingerbread Latte - bliss!
