Diego and Fatima were absolutely incredible! From the moment we walked into Callaway, they were so welcoming, patient, and genuinely kind. They answered every single question we had about the 4x4 floor plan and made sure we understood everything without ever making us feel rushed. Moving to college can be overwhelming, but they made us feel so comfortable and excited about moving in this fall. Their professionalism, knowledge, and friendly personalities made such a difference, and they truly went above and beyond. The management here is horrible. I truly feel like this is a scam. You happily sign your life savings away for a certain floorplan and if things change (need to add a roommate, move to another floorplan, etc), it is a legal nightmare. There is no "let's work together", it's just "you are legally bound to this!". We were happy to pay the higher rent but move to a lower rent floorplan and they would not budge! And it was not due to being full, they still had plenty of rooms available at that time. Then upon check in, the room was acceptable, but not nearly as nice as expected. There were nicks in the paint, scratches on the mirrors, tears in the sofa, etc. Each one of these issues was meticulously noted and photographed for the move-in form. Now after move-out, we are being charged for each one of those items as if we caused this damage! We are on our 3rd appeal and cannot get the charges taken off of our bill. In fact, we are being charged to clean out a refrigerator and trash that doesn't even belong to the unit. You can tell from their "proof" pictures that the refrigerator and microwave sit in a different floorplan altogether. Yet we cannot get the charge removed from our bill. This charge is being charged to all 4 of the occupants and ALL of us are disputing it and cannot get it removed. Also on check-out, the whole building was disgusting! The trash chutes were full immediately and trash piled up in every hallway. Luckily my son's unit was near the elevator. I'm not sure those down the hall could even get their luggage out of their unit and to the elevator due to the hallways being waist high in trash. I know that many freshmen stay in Callaway in large groups and for that it was great. But as a parent, it has caused extensive stress! If you choose Callaway, take plenty of pictures and be prepared to pay for damage that's been there for years. read more

My daughter moved into Callaway early this year so that she could participate in sorority rush. She is in a 4x4 unit which means she has her own bathroom and bedroom. When we arrived her sink was actively leaking underneath, and it appears it had been like this for some time as the vanity cabinet was warped. After multiple calls to the emergency maintenance line someone came up to turn off the water and then said they would return the next day to replace the entire sink and vanity. Today is day 4 and she still has no functioning sink. I have sent multiple emails and opened several tickets to no avail. I have asked for someone to return my call but no one will. The facilities manager emailed me and said that since she has access to a sink (ie THE KITCHEN SINK) we would not qualify for a Prorated refund. For $3000+/month you would think American Campus would take better care of its properties and residents. We are very disappointed to say the least read more

TLDR: overpriced, disgusting food, and is this a frat house?? Let me guess, you're rushing a sorority/fraternity and your parents have so much money, of course you're staying at The Callaway. While I will say the theater room is the one shining beacon at The Callaway, all the other amenities and services offered are garbage. There's a dining hall onsite, but the food tasted cheap and unfortunately, closes at 8 PM. Considering the dining hall is not a part of the UT school system, you'd expect more quality and taste from a place that is so overpriced. The worst part? The elevators. They're constantly broken and needing to be maintained. I've seen it happen. You'll find Greek students cramming elevators past capacity to get to their Fetiis. It's not uncommon to find beer cans, vomit, and other surprises in the hallways and elevators. The worst incident I've witnessed? An injured bat in the stairwell. I moved out last month and wanted to share my experience with potential new residents. I believe a pros and cons list would show at one glance how disorganized the dorm is without having to read the other details. PROS Close to campus Mostly freshman in Greek life (if you are involved in Greek life, you will be with all of your friends. However, if not planning to do Greek life, it might be better to live on campus) Amazon box CONS Old facilities The gym: run-down equipment that will likely not be enough for your workout. If you are a morning person, the cleaning staff disrupts your workout at 6:30-8:30 am by vacuuming and wiping machines daily. Air conditioning: in my room, the AC went out twice. Sinks: my room experienced mold under our kitchen sink. My suitemate experienced mold in her shower. Elevators: The worst inconvenience. The floor numbers should be installed on the elevators, so you know where they are amongst the 17 floors. Also, the capacity would constantly go over, especially on football game days, resulting in hours stuck inside the hot, sweaty elevators with 20+ people. As you would expect, there would be multiple days when all the elevators would be broken. If you lived on the 17th or 16th floor, climbing up 17 flights of stairs would be horrible. Additionally, the elevators on the weekends would be trashed. There would be vomit, beer cans, and vape pens all over the floor. Also, the maids sometimes lock the elevators at 7:45 am. If you have an 8 am class, it is challenging to make it on time. Pest: my room had been infested by crickets and ants. Dining Hall: The options were so limited that the food was repeated for breakfast every morning. Additionally, the weekend food opened at 10:30 am and served breakfast all day. The hours were super weird: it would close at 8 pm on weeknights, although exams could run until 9:30 pm. What sucked was when I moved in a week early, they did not provide us with any food, yet charged us 200 dollars for an early move-in fee. Also, expect the ice machine to have mold and the food like broccoli to have black spots on the bottom. The food overall was horrible. Expect a lot of pork as your meat and no one eating in the dining hall. Hallways: expect your room number to be taken off your wall, broken glass bottles on the stairways and hallways, vomit, thrown food, and the fire alarm to go off at 3 am. Fire alarm: The scariest aspect of Callaway was that the fire alarm would only go off on three floors but not heard by the other 7. If an actual fire occurred, most residents would not be given the warning to escape. This seriously needs to be fixed. Room Service: They showed up in my room twice a month. They only cleaned the bathtub shower and vacuumed the main room. They never go into your room or do your laundry, etc. If your room has no laundry machine, expect to pay money to use the ones on the even floors. It is unbelievable they charge you to do laundry since all dorms on campus do not charge for using the washer or dryer. Study spaces: no one goes on the outdoor deck. Every time I went, there were bugs, or the outdoor speakers would blast music. The limited study spaces on the odd floors are always full, with only eight spots in each room. Expect to have to study in your room or walk onto campus. More cons are in the photo. the word limit was reached with them! Overall: I highly recommend spending your money elsewhere. One star seems like such gift for this establishment. Please avoid this building like the plague! My daughter lives on the 17th floor, which is supposed to be all that. Please. Repairs....I'm looking at over a month as of yesterday since I requested her door lock be repaired. Parking....she has paid parking spot. She has returned numerous times and found someone parked in her spot. They have now charged us almost $2000 for times she has returned and someone was parked in her spot. Phone calls....They have this drill down to an art. First, shitty email is sent with a telephone number you can call for any questions. Second, you call and shockingly no one is available to talk with you but they can take your name and number. No one calls back. You call every number under the sun and again, no one calls back. As far as the building....the tour will stop so you can admire the game room and the gym. They'll take you in a nice model apartment. What they will not point out is that the three elevators almost never all work. When kids are heading out for class or trying to bring up groceries, and elevators are limited, this downright sucks! It isn't uncommon for hallways, stairwells and elevators to be lined with empty cans and sometimes even vomit. Just look elsewhere. For the price, there is zero concerns that you can't find better. If you have already signed a lease here, I have a suggestion. Get the name of a towing company and have your student program it into their phone. Not if, WHEN, they come home to find a car in their spot, have it towed yourself. The other option is for your student to get a charge which you will be left fighting. read more

Sewage came through my floors in my first week here and it took them a week to change my carpet, and even tried to fine me for their mistake. Food is awful too. Elevators always broken. UPDATE: STILL no communication from Calloway House Austin other than me having to pull it from them. Was promised a refund in early/mid June....it's July 7th and still no refund from the spring semester. Took it from 2 stars down to one.....if i could take it to zero stars, I would. Our son lived at Calloway House in Austin this past academic year, and he enjoyed the accommodations and location. He claimed the food wasn't very good, but that's certainly debatable and a matter of taste. Had a few issues with tenants tearing up the place......think wealthy, entitled, drunk frat boys who enjoy tearing up things and punching holes in walls since daddy will pay for it. It comes with the territory. My issue with is with the complete lack of communication.....ZERO COMMUNICATION from American Campus or Calloway House regarding refunds and move out. Getting anyone on the phone is damn near impossible, and there has been absolutely NO proactive communication about potential partial refunds for room/board, nor information about move-out. Once I get someone on the line, they are nice and sweet (seemingly younger, maybe college kids answering the phone), but ZERO follow through and no communication. Again.....nice property and great location. Too many entitled kids who feel no sense of personal responsibility, but then again.....given the price to stay here, you'd expect a group of entitled f*cks to be there. I want incoming freshman and their parents to know there are other options for housing! We found Callaway and its management subpar on many levels and the prices are exorbitant for what you really get. 1. Management ignored us and never returned multiple emails regarding our responses to communications that management originally initiated. Jessica Rubio never responded to any of our emails and concerns, not one. Customer service is not just lacking but nonexistent. They act like they can get away with it and don't care. 2. Fines are handed out like candy for very minor offenses, routinely. It's eggregious. I can understand they need to keep a lid on rules of the house but their reaction is over the top and don't expect any meaningful dialogue with management for a more just treatment. My son was fined for 2 offenses. Yes, only 2 but he was also threated with eviction. I am laying it out here for you to decide if an eviction is warranted. For the first offense, he was in someone else's room who was smoking pot (he did not smoke and was not accused of that but he still gets fined and I can understand this and can accept a fine in this instance). A second fine was assessed to my son for him being with another person who slipped the exit signs out of their holders in the hallway. My son did not do this. They have video proof and communicated to us my son did not participate in this action but nonetheless he was fined AND HE WAS NOTIFIED BY PHONE AND IN WRITING HE WAS TO BE EVICTED AND SAID HE HAD 3 DAYS TO MOVE OUT. This was communicated to us one or two days before winter break. Over winter break no one is available. We waited to discuss this with management after the break but still no one responded to our emails. We emailed the manager Jessica Rubio several times. We waited to pay the fine while we hoped to discuss it with management but were assessed a late fee for not paying the fine on time. We just paid the fine. We assume they dropped the evicion threat becasue we paid the fine. Thousands of dollars were at risk if he had been evicted. 3. With respect to #2, many of my son's friends that lived there were treated in the same manner. We overheard a parent when moving out state "We are tired of all your fines." Just know excessive fines and threats are to be expected. 4. Upon move-in, note EVERY SINGLE FLAW on the move-in forms. My son and his rooommate were charged for the faux leather peeling on the couches. They did nothting to cause this. It is the quality of the furniture and no fault to them. 5. As another review posted, any house cleaning services as promised were nonexistent. 6. The food is sub par for what you pay. I heard complaints from most tenants. read more

At the end of the year they charge you with damages that didn't even occur. We got charged for the pillows on the couches and our room didn't even come with pillows. It's a nice place, very new and good management, but it's way overpriced for what you get compared to other places in west campus. also know that 3/4 of the people who live here are freshmen in greek life and the complex is reflective of that. cans of keystone and mixed drinks in hallways and vomit in the elevators isnt uncommon. I currently live here and it is an okay place to live. I live in a room with three other girls and enjoy the layout of our unit very much. There is definitely lots of room and you don't feel crammed. I am not pleased with the parking situation as I moved here in January and was offered a $600 parking pass in addition to the thousands of dollars I am already paying. The pass at the beginning of the year is $1000 and I have been told countless times that the parking is bad news in the garage. I have been parking on the street and I will definitely pay less and its probably safer also. The dining hall is great with good hours and lots of food options. I am vegan and gluten free and there's always something I can eat. The front desk staff is also great and I am always sad when the residents do not treat them with respect. The residents honestly are probably the biggest problem because they trash the elevators and hallways and don't care at all. Every night you will find beer cans and food contents on the floors. Last night there was a red solo cup filled with vomit with a piece of pizza sitting inside it. When you walk the halls you will smell weed and air freshener. My only other major complaint is the laundry. It costs 1.25 per was and dry which is an okay price but the problem is the machines are not good. My clothes never dry all the way and the payment thing is very glitchy so I am always having to have loads going on different floors. I think I am better off going to a local laundry place because of price and function. Overall I am proud of the way the staff handles the residents and I hope they can eventually get it under control. read more

If you plan on living at Callaway,,, well... absolutely do NOT. If I forget my key and its past 10:00pm will not let me go up into my room. This leaves me dumbfounded, I mean my father is paying 2,300$ for me to live here. Another reason is that the food is complete trash. I have lost about 10 pounds while eating here, and did I forget to mention my highschool food was way better then the food they are serving here. Another reason I do not like this place is because when I try to bring a friend up into my room they make me go through this long sign in process which is outrageous considering my father has to pay 2,300$ a month. If you are not flabbergasted by these facts, wait for this. You can live in west campus for 900$ a month and have 1,000$ to spend for food and other needs that month and still be spending less then you would be at Callaway. read more

This is a terrible place to live. Here are my reasons: 1. The security is excessive and not effective. You can only get in the front door after about 10 (get real, we're in college) but they let anyone come in. Drunk, high, anything. 2. The housekeeping does "clean" the rooms but only sometimes when they feel like it. Plus, if you're still in the room sleeping, they will barge right in and turn all the lights on Then they continue on to do a crappy cleaning job. Lovely. 3. Parking is $1000 and the garage is terribly thought out. Many accidents have happened because of poor safety implements. 4. Everything is constantly broken. Because the security is so bad, all of the drunk kids like to break everything, steal things from other rooms, and fall asleep on your couch. Oh and the exit signs? Yeah they stole those too. 5. You have to pay for laundry. 6. There aren't stove tops. Which means, if you're not really feeling the fattening food they serve downstairs, then you're pretty much out of luck. 7. The cafe is almost never open. The workers are nice but whats the point of paying that much for food if they're never serving it. No one wants to eat dinner at 5. 8. The pool is in the shade. I wonder who's great idea that was. 9. Our water was cold and temperamental for about 2 weeks this semester. Not counting spring break. 10. They don't clean up after the drunk kids for days. This means when I'm PAYING to do my laundry, I get to smell nice 3 day old alcoholic puke. Cute, right? 11. They do frequent room checks. I, for one, don't enjoy walking into my room only to find men digging around in my stuff. Just do yourself a favor and get an apartment. This place is not worth the frustration. read more

I have lived at Callaway for about a semester and I can say that the service is exceptional and so is the atmosphere. They handle the drunken, and often rude residents with respect, fairness, and diligence when interacting with them. Furthermore they are very responsive when you have maintenance issues and resolve it in a quick and timely matter. Although sometimes the security can be often excessive it does create a sense of safety knowing how strict they are. Overall, I highly recommend Callaway to incoming freshman and upperclassmen as well. I'm right now staying in The Callaway House with the Summer Discovery program. And all I have to say is IT'S AWESOME! Just like a hotel! You have private room, private bathroom,good gym,..... But also the swimming pool is pretty bad , the homeless ALWAYS next to the dorm and my friend almost got robbed last week, the cafeteria hours are dump!!! They're closed at 7 pm!!! And the last thing I hate is the all the room don't have any window that we can open !!!! read more

This dorm will make you feel like you are living in a luxury hotel! There are awesome amenities and it's only one year old. Now, when it comes to dorms, I only look for two things and that is the cleanliness and the social aspects. For cleanliness, this place gets a solid 5 stars considering how crazy college students can get. However, I feel that this dorm can certainly do a little better when it comes to promoting a social atmosphere. This may be due to the obviously high amounts of students taking part in Greek life and hanging out with each other. So, if you're not involved in Greek life, this is where I see an small issue. There's so much tension among the residents. Elevator rides are usually quiet and so are the areas designed for social gatherings unless you bring your own group of friends that you made somewhere else on campus. (The reason I say that is because at other dorms people are much more friendly and inviting, even with other groups of friends. That's how I met some of my closest friends whom I still hang out with, see around campus and even live with!) I live in the apartments on the top 2 floors in the Penthouse at Callaway and it's pretty quiet! Great place but weigh your options! So, I'll go ahead and give 3 stars for the generally friendly staff but only barely 3 stars due to the lack of good/numerous social activities and other rude staff. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Employees are untrained, especially the blonde at the front desk. Leasing office lies to persuade naive students to sign there lease. Lease cuts you three weeks short of a year effectively making one month four times the original payment. They offer no early move in for greek and band kids. Building shows signs of cutting corners everywhere, split wood, cheap furniture, and consistently broken elevators. Yes, when you walk in, you will be stunned by luxury, including a pool and game room. But it just for show. They will not take any care of you, especially since they know in a year you will be gone. read more

The Callaway House in Austin is truly a beautiful place to live. If you are lucky you will get a nice view of the tower and maybe downtown. Their workout facility is probably the best you will find compared to similar places. The food is also great and the people who work in the kitchen not only brighten your day but give you great advice with your daily meals. I have definitely met a ton of wonderful people here that I will stay in contact with well after this year. If you already signed here this is probably where you want to stop reading. On the other hand, the cons to this place are ridiculous. The building was thrown together as fast as possible. The garage is a nightmare to navigate, and even with mirrors on half of the corners I still narrowly avoid accidents every time I need to use my car. I was one of the lucky ones, but many people who got the upper floors of the parking garage that were promised "covered parking" were rudely awakened to find that only half of their car was protected from nature. If you manage to park your car and unpack your belongings on move in day you will open the door to a decent enough parking garage elevator that will sluggishly take you to your floor. Enjoy that privilege as much as you can because as soon as move in week is over you will never be able to use that elevator again. Neither will you be able to use the stairs. Callaway is a "one point of entry" building which means if you park in the garage you can't simply go up to your floor, oh no. You need to go all the way down, go past the front desk, then go all the way up again. They even lock the stairwell from the way up so you can't go up even when there is a line of 25 people or more for the elevators which frequently happens. If you manage to somehow keep from dehydrating by the time you get to your room, the water setup in your apartment will definitely get you. I am writing this review now because instead of taking a shower or washing my dishes, Callaway decided to pull the sneak move on us and shut off all of our water without warning and now they won't even answer the phone to explain why. Even when the water is on there are always problems. Not only is the water pressure terrible but it takes well over 10 minutes for my water to get hot as well. I put in a work order to get it fixed and you know what they told me? "Just run your shower for a while, the sink will get hot eventually." They still haven't fixed the water problem, even with countless complaints from every floor. One time they actually warned us before shutting off our water in an attempt to fix the problem, but even after cutting off our water in peak hours of the day when it was actually needed they accomplished nothing. I don't understand what they were thinking, not only is it bad for the environment to run every water faucet in my apartment just to get warm water (something they clearly don't care about) but all these people wasting water is a terrible from a business angle as well (Which is something they clearly care about because they tried to spend the least amount of money on this building as possible). Just wait there is more. The cherry on top of all of this is the noise. I know every apartment complex has this problem, but not like Callaway. If you love frat guys stomping around in boots above you, or running around the halls screaming during finals week, or even walking into your room in the middle of the night because your suitemate forgot to lock the door, then this is the place for you. The joke is on me though because when they are throwing parties on weekdays at 2 in the morning the lovely security guards never tell them to quiet it down, even with our complaints. However if I decide to play some music at 10:30 on a Saturday night or watch a movie at an understandable volume I get threatened from the security guard to be fined. If I wasn't a GDI before living here I probably am one now. I know the security guards are just doing their jobs, but there is definitely a problem with the system. I simply don't feel at home here. I feel like Callaway is trying to get as much money out of me as they can, which I know to be true but they could at least try to hide it a little better. Would rate it 0 stars/5 if I could: First of all, The management at the calloway house is non-existent. Every position that does not directly relate to payroll or upper management is done by "students" in the local area. There is currently only one person in all of the direct customer service that does his job well and that person runs the nightshift. Apart from him, the other direct customer support representatives do not retain nor relay information adequately. For instance, they will spam your email with notices even when noted to send notices and all the other junk mail they give you through your mail slot. The owner of the complex's own daughter worked at the front desk and had to be let go due to not performing her duties. It's pretty sad.. pretty sad that they did not let go of the whole staff (except the single person noted above). They refuse to acknowledge the difference in apartment leases versus dormitory leases subjecting everyone to the dorm leases. Take for instance the way they have to set up the weekend security for those that go downtown to 6th street. Aas an apartment contract holder, I do NOT have to sign in guests under my lease terms, but if I do not, then the security has been instructed to not let me into my apartment. Which, as I said is against their lease terms. Packages. Don't bother getting time sensitive packages or expedited shipping. If the package carrier delivers your package on time, they say they "have not checked the package in through their desk" so they cannot "find" your package. Even if you can see it in their mail room. So expect 2-3 days extra of waiting on a package. Agin thank those working the daily front desk. The people that rent these dorms are also pretty horrible. Every weekend, solo cups in the elevators, spilled liquor in the elevators, loud banging from lower every other leaser, etc. It's as bad as towers. Here I thought a new place would be nice -- nope. Horrible people. Those renting apartment leases in the penthouse are fine, but the freshmen act as if they came from towers, which is also where many of them go during the weekends to get incredibly drunk. But you can't really ruin the calloway house too much. They didn't finish the building. The windows were not properly insulated when installed so the rooms would fog up. The maintenance will enter the apartments and will very rudely try to fix things like the windows. VERY rudely. The floors had to have some of their carpeting replaced because it was discolored from day 1; each room has an unpainted part of the foundation going through it. Some sort of monelith that is about 4 feet of the wall (or in the middle of the room!). It's disgustingly horrendous how much they left unfinished. Overall, this was a hack job that wasn't done on time and attracted a horrible staff and horrible tenants. read more

This residence hall is beautiful!! The rooms are new and amazing with a gorgeous work out facility and pool/hot tub on the roof overlooking the tower. Also the views are amazing! 4 stars because of some of the rude people working there (blonde woman at the front desk) and the majority of entitled freshman students who go greek. Know that this is an upscale residence hall so get used to designer bags and freshman with BMWs and Mercedes in the parking garage. read more

I lived here my freshman year and had an awesome experience! While the elevators were slow during peak times of the day, everything and everyone were great! The cafe serves great food, the amenities are new and state of the art, and the staff is always willing to help and friendly. It is managed well and they seem as though they really care about pleasing the residents, which can be hard to find in west campus. Overall, great experience and would recommend! read more

Staff associated with the dorm needs work: RA on my child's floor isn't any good. Front desk girl with short blond hair is consistently rude, not just one bad day, equally rude to residents and their parents. On the other side of the breezeway: The cafe staff has been very helpful. read more

While Callaway House has nice facilities, I regret living here. 1. Callaway House has repeatedly misrepresented itself. It is not a freshman residence and they do not match roommates based on grade level. 2. The staff literally could not care less about its residents. They disregarded the roommate resident profile, which has caused many issues between roommates. If you specifically request certain traits for your roommates, like someone interested in Greek life, do not expect to be paired with anyone in Greek Life. Furthermore, the organization is completely self serving, unwilling to aid their residents when issues arise (which has been often). Callaway House fails in serving its residents, they make no effort to help their residents. 3. The staff, which is largely comprised of students, is largely incompetent and often rude. However, the kitchen staff are angels, truly the only thing Callaway House has done correctly. 4. The security, while admittedly exceptional, causes countless issues. You may only walk down the stairs, as the lock on the doors on all staircases is not accessible with the key. This causes issues when the elevators are broken, which is quite frequently, so expect over a five minute wait for an elevator. If you're living at Callaway next year, it would behoove you to know of the many ways in which Callaway House fails miserably. I really cannot verbalize how disappointing Callaway House is. read more

For anyone seriously looking at Callaway, I would say they are poorly managed. They set unrealistic deadlines on payments and only seem to be concerned with making money. There are better options in Austin for less money and better choices for your children. Parents beware -- just because it looks nice on the outside -- does not mean its the best choice for your child. read more

Stay away from them. Besides the outrageous non-refundable fees they charge, they start charge rent before your lease is fully signed.
