Ben and I had chosen coloured contacts (me in black, him in white) as our added weapons. Slimelight is a big, members only goth club. If you're a non-member, there are two ways to get in: know a member, or look the part. We looked the part. As well as many dance rooms (with varieties of music: Ben and I liked the ravey room best), the club also serves food (they had a barbecue!), has pool tables, many bars, and runs occasional events: we were privy to goth bingo, and participated in karaoke! Brilliant. Mainly, I loved dancing in the electronic style room because the UV lighting made my outfit look AWESOME. As far as karaoke goes, I went for a nerve-wracking rendition of Love Cats, and later on, my friend Sas and I teamed up for a blinding performance of 99 Red Balloons. Super friendly people, many with elaborate Goth outfits. Crowd includes all ages from 60 year old veterans to 20 year olds, and everyone is having fun with quality Gothic rock, ebm and industrial music. I hope I get to keep on coming here for many more years. Since someone asked, I'll clarify that the Slimelight is on every Saturday from 2300 til very late. Sometimes there are also pre club shows from artists in the Gothic and Industrial scene, in which case a ticket for the show will also get you into the club. Other nights of the week the venue operates under different names for different purposes.

We'd asked to get a table and apparently were next in line for one, but with several girls nights out and one massive hen party, it wasn't going to happen. We barely had standing room. Also, the crowd was a bit shady. So shady, in fact, that a couple of hours in the evening a fight broke out, tables and chairs overturned, guys getting dragged out, the works. On the bright side, this meant that the club emptied out and we finally got a table!! The staff was lovely, and gave us plates and plastic forks to have the cake on (which I'd previously gotten from a patisserie), which was great. I'm not sure I'd recommend the venue, for unless you've planned something well beforehand, you'll barely have standing room!!

Maybe I'm too old for clubbing (and maybe it was the day after my birthday, I'd crawled in at 4am and didn't actually want to go out again) but i wasn't wowed. The dry ice cocktail seemed like a great idea, until we tried it and found that it was too sweet to drink, but the barstaff were good and they do a very good mojito. I think I paid a fiver to get in. There's nothing here that would entice me to come back, even though I was awesome people. It wouldn't be my idea to come again, but my friend had an awesome time on his birthday and to go with the theme they even let him play Back to the Future on their massive telly. My brother in law found this "shocking" and told me there's one strip club right across the street from his and if I wanna go, he'll take me. Yay!! We made plans and the following week, me and my boyfriend + other 2 couples went to discover the mysteries of The Griffin. I literally felt like I was in one of Tarantino's movies. The place is nothing like I was imagining (flashy lights, neons, sofas etc). From the outside it looks like a normal pub- with blacked out windows (not that pub windows are normally black, but traditionally, pubs have frosted windows, so you can't see who's inside); a guy sitting at the front door -very polite, by the way- beer/smoking garden a couple of passes away from the entrance etc. The guy told us how we have to behave and what we can and can't do, wished us a happy night and we went in. As soon as the door opened, hot air "hit" me. SO warm and nice! The place looks like a pub! With carpet, ancient looking bar, fruit machines etc. We went to the bar and got some drinks (reasonably priced) and we started looking around. Girls dressed in lingerie walk around with pints and ask for £1, prolly that was the only thing different from a normal pub. hahaha. After these pleasantries, a dancer gets on a small stage at the back of the room and starts dancing. She has a DJ/bodyguard guy next to her and she starts taking off all her clothes. Oh la la! You see everything and I mean EVERYTHING! Of course it was racy and you could see all the old people patting their foreheads with a handkerchief. The girls are good looking- I liked that, not skinny,fake ones (I think only one girl had fake boobs) and they move nicely, they always smile and they look happy and like they're having fun. What I found "stupid" was the music they were "dancing" to. It didn't work with the moves they were doing or vice-versa?! Meh, it doesn't matter- you're not there for the music in the end. haha. There is also an area which is curtained off, where you are not allowed unless you pay £10 for a private dance or you are a girl and you need the toilet. :P Several girls asked us if we want a private dance and they came up with all kinds of offers (2 girls for £10 and the ladies watch etc). We kept refusing and one of the girls told me I should find a better man, because the one I have doesnt wanna see a private dance. Hahahahahaha, that was funny. Anyways, I really don't find that room private as , although its fairly large, you're there with other dudes (and ladies going to the toilet), sitting on little individual sofas and watching the girl/s dance on tiny tables, doing the exact same thing she/they did on the main stage. No touching- you know, cuz normally in private dances, the girls can touch you. Nope, not here. No touchy! I hear during weekends its very busy and musty(ahahahaha, oh god) but on a week night, its ok. We went on a Wednesday night and it was very chilled out, a very after-work sort of place- you see loads of people in business suits. Anyhoo, it was a great experience and I'm glad I went. So if you're in the neighbourhood and fancy some "dirty dancing" or on your lunch break (they are open from like 12 pm) and feel like eating some fish and chips while watching a naked, dancing girl- head down to The Griffin!

For an otherwise alternative part of London, Under Solo is a welcome mainstream club. The drinks aren't overly expensive and the atmosphere is bouncy and friendly. The club isn't huge so going with your own group of friends can feel like you own the dance floor. The door price tops out at £10.

Nice squishy sofas but even better, get up to the the roof garden as the sun comes up - genius. As others have said, security very friendly and absolutely no aggro in the club. Strictly members-only club that people seem to either love or hate. This is such a quirky place, I…read morethink you have to give it a go with a large group more than once to really understand it and feel at home here. Atmosphere-wise it feels a lot like you're in some gentleman's basement library... like he impulsively decided to put on some music and invite his friends over. Everything's all wood-paneling and pretty sconces... replete with the portrait of a trap... there's definitely a different look going on in here than your typical nightclub. Tramp is essentially divided into two rooms... the restaurant and the club. You can go here for dinner beforehand - the dinner section looks like a rather typical supper club decorated with astrology symbols. The club room is just tables surrounding a dance floor... but what's nice is that the tables are really good-sized with plenty of sitting room... you never feel over-crowded... the entire group can sit down (or stand up on the cushions and dance!) They also decorate really well in here for holidays... cobwebs for Halloween and garlands for Christmas... but it's always tasteful and compliments the whole traditional library-look - never cheesy. The service here is *fantastic*...they don't even take your name or hand you a slip at the coat check - merely try to remember you - it's simply one of Tramp's idiosyncrasies and endeavors to deliver top-notch service. Many staff members have been with Tramp *forever* and are well-known and loved. It's a bit odd to be served by white-haired and mustached men wearing tuxedos in a club, but again, it's in keeping with the vibe of the place... like the gentleman host has asked his butlers to stay late and take good care of his friends all night long... and they do, the staff is just so friendly and sweet... they actually seem to be having a good time being here and interacting with crazy club goers. The music is a great mix of pop, R&B, and old favourites. The DJ will normally take requests if you ask nicely, but they usually play such an amazing variety that you don't need to put in the effort. The crowd is an assortment of young and old - but everyone is either established or connected to somebody who's established - it's the only way to get in! If there's anything to be said about Tramp, it's that the place is consistent... I've had so many great times here... I know I can count on it for a good night out...plus it's the rare club that makes you feel like you're partying in the basement of mansion!
