Booked on hotels.com This is the best, worst hotel that I've ever been to. It's very old, rundown, has rowdy tenants, and sketchy people walking around both interior and exterior. Hallways reek of kush and deteriorating furnishings or wood. The front gate requires a code to get in, we got a 4 digit code but the gate only took 3 digits. Also, at check-in, there was a mailbox behind the counter that said "rent checks" so it's probably safe to say that some people live there. I wouldn't be surprised if the box was moved after this review is posted. The younger lady at check in was sarcastic, condescending, and unprofessional so if you were hoping for some hospitality, be prepared not to get it lol. - There was a cable box on the TV but nothing actually connecting it to the TV. - The "free" WiFi apparently is $10 for the code? lol - The "free" parking is basically the 10 or 11 spots on the side of the building. Parking on the curb doesn't really feel like the safest idea though in that neighborhood. So why 3 stars? To be honest, I can see that someone somewhere (maybe the owner/manager?) is putting in effort. The actual room had some type of vintage aesthetic to it. The toiletries provided were pretty good. Also, consider that you're down the street from Hollywood Blvd, for the price, you get what you pay for. This is a good place to maybe stay for a night, and leave immediately the next day. read more

Rats/Mice; we were ground floor and we could clearly hear them at night and I even saw a mouse in our kitchenette during the stay. The hotel...it isn't a hotel it is a old abandoned building which they are trying to refurbish VERY slowly...they quite clearly can't afford to do this refurb job as they need to rent out rooms to long term tenants (yes not just holiday makers) to afford to do each room slowly one at a time. (The builders work until 8-9pm & start at 7am so don't expect to have any peace. Our room had a gas leak/problem which meant our kitchen was not able to be used, we were not told this so we bought food to cook and then couldn't cook it - hotel did not offer us any kind of refund or compensation for this - considering this was a safety issue I am considering taking this further. Finally they messed about with our checkout deposit and I believe we were overcharged - they are now ignoring my emails. read more

Online this place looks great, in person, not so much. The room was cute and was as presented on pictures, but the place itself is sketchy. The staff were nice enough but pretty unprofessional. I didn't feel safe, I didn't feel our belongings were safe. When we arrived there were 3 people behind the front desk. There was a piece of plywood in lieu of a ramp, the elevator reeked like cigarette smoke and the water was shut off. Not only that, the floor of the bathroom was wet and there was hair hanging from the shower head and in the tub. They refunded us for the first night which is great! However, we decided to leave a day early and noone I spoke to could give me a straight answer about a refund. I finally spoke to the manager who told me she'd refund us the last night since we left early, and whaddaya know? I cant get her on the phone, messages are going unanswered, etc... To clarify, I have not actually stayed at this hotel but I am giving feedback based on the reservation process and cancellations. I booked this hotel for a weekend but plans fell through. They have a 72 hour cancellation policy, so I made sure to call 6 days ahead of my reservation date in order to cancel within the allotted cancellation time. There was no answer. I attempted to leave a message, but the voice mail box was full. So I sent an email with the details and asked them to cancel it. I also utilized their "chat system" on the website to attempt to cancel and was informed via text that I would receive a response shortly. Did not receive a response after a day to the email or the chat. I received another email confirming my reservation the next day. I responded to that email telling them that I had already attempted to contact them several time and they had not responded and I wanted to cancel my reservation. I STILL have not received a response after another day and my reservation is in 4 days. I attempted to call again today and no answer, voice box is full. Sent a text via their website, no response. Sent another email, no response. I am at a loss for what to do now. I do not want to get charged for a room I have attempted to cancel numerous times through various methods well within the cancellation policy. Terrible customer service and I will be disputing any charges for the room. read more

Upon arrival there were instructions on the gate on how to gain access if the gate was locked. Check in was super easy, and I love the convenience of having a code to the room instead of a key. We were a party of 5, two adults and 3 teenagers. Parking is convenient in the garage directly next to the building. Considering parking fees in other cities, the fee for parking was reasonable. The room was super clean. It is an old building, with many original fixtures, including the ice box in the kitchen. Having a kitchen when traveling with 3 kids is more convenient than you think. Location is key, and this was perfect. One block to the Hollywood Walk of fame, and convenient to the Metro if you want to branch out to other parts of the LA area. I look forward to staying here again and seeing the progress as it is being renovated. read more

Very good value for the price! The building is older but kept very clean. Staff was very friendly and answered all questions we had. The room was much bigger than we had expected, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Bathroom was a bit cramped but nothing too horrible. The best part of everything was the location! There is tons to do within a few minutes walking distance. read more

So I don't live in the city, i wanted to get a little room I booked it on a site called " aguda " . It confirmed I was so tired from the day I just really wanted to lay down and sleep. I went in to check in and the front desk guy was pretty cool he has trouble finding me in the system until I guess I confirmed it ?? Idk how I did if all I did really was show him the app accepted my money and i should be on the computer lol I didn't care I just wanted to sleep and he then said he didn't have a code to get me a room. He tried calling his Boss who wasn't picking up ?? I'm not even sure where to start with this place. As a person who stays in hotels for work on a weekly basis and works in customer service myself, this hotel/motel/b&b needs a LOT of help. Pros: location! It's walkable to everything. That's about it. Honestly, from booking to receiving our rooms(s) to the condition of said rooms- it was a total mess. If we were staying for longer, we would have left and gone somewhere else. The management does not take anything seriously, we were booked into another person's room (given the code to get into their room) and then given another room that was not the size that we booked. After that- given a dirty, unsafe room, took pictures and when attempted to show management- they were no where to be found. Day of check out maintenance was trying to kick us out at 9am, quite threatening, when we were told checkout was at 11. Will not be staying here again! Yikes. Reviews and photos say a lot. read more

This place is only getting one star because I can't give zero. From the moment of check in (which took just under and hour) to our departure we were unhappy. Upon arriving they had to check our room to make sure it was clean. Then a couple that had just returned came back down to the lobby from their room to complain that all of their items had been removed.... they were informed that the hotel thought they checked out. The desk clerk rudely said my card was declined upon reserving the room online, to which I showed my PayPal receipt and she recanted stating she was just getting familiar with the system and looked at it wrong. Then she walked us to our room which has key codes, no keys. When I went to type in the code the door popped open as I guess it wasn't shut all the way. But this just tells me that they don't change the codes as the previously mentioned couple was able to get back into a room that the hotel thought they had checked out of... The room (and hotel) were very clean and charming looking online but in person not much so. There was cockroaches in the shower when we woke up in the morning. The beds are uncomfortable and the rooms are freezing with no heaters. The walls are thin and you can hear everyone partying and shouting. read more

Let's get down to the facts, the only thing that fills up the rooms of this hotel are the bugs. I will be posting pictures they have a non-existent imaginary managerial staff that can never be found, are never on premises, or just truly do not exist. Upon speaking to someone that claimed to be a manager I was quickly informed that they did not exist anymore after he hung up on me, however to be honest I wouldn't want to claim any of the responsibility either if I were them. let's move on upon checking in they tried to put us in a room where somebody was already there, however the staff really didn't seem to see that as a problem it was just an" oops let's put you in a different one". okay fine moving on, the room we were in was inundated by bugs (who clearly had no standards) this room was never cleaned!!! next problem, not that I would really wanted to put my clothes in drawers( that I had already found bugs in ) most of the drawers were shut because they were painted over. Now let's move on to the amenities lights not hung that did not have working bulbs not that that's important you really don't want to see anything when you know all you can see are bugs and painted drawers and disgusting bathrooms and no houskeeping from previous renters . now you may be wondering why not just leave well here's the problem as in most vacations you check in and you have fun. you just put your bags down and say I'll get to it later. lesson learned!!!! because upon coming back that's when everything was found out so at 11 at night it's a little difficult to up and move. now trying to get this message stated to the non-existent managerial staff , was even more fun apparently these people do not exist !! just like they can't take reservations over the phone and a prime example of a front desk staff that will stand there to your face and tell you a manager will call u within 2 weeks. so as long-winded as this may be, take my advice!!! if you see this hotel and you think it's a good place for the night REMEMBER unless you are a cockroach you will not be happy!!!! read more

For the third day in a row I have tried to check in and they have totally screwed me each time! Day 1: My girlfriend and I were forced to wait until an hour and a half after check in in the freezing lobby to get to our room. Day 2: I was forced to carry all of my bags downstairs with scoliosis to re-check into the same room, and then walk right back upstairs to the same room with way worse back problems and lots of wasted time when I could've been working and making money or doing anything else with my life and time. But I'm not super stoked about sitting in this coronavirus lobby right now and it's freezing by the way there's no heating at all in this building! The only thing that kept me going yesterday was going telling me my booking with Secure until Thursday until... Day 3: there are two bangs on the door telling me that I have to check out and bring all my bags downstairs again to check into the same room again. I am currently sitting on the floor Of their freezing lobby absolutely miserable, afraid of this virus, and pain from carrying bags up and down to the same room three days in a row for no reason. This is absolutely ridiculous I showed him my book and I showed them my confirmation they have it and they won't let me go up to my room where all my stuff is it's insanity here. There's supposed to be heating in my room which there is not and two of the lights are broken. read more

This was a horrible hotel stay experience. We first arrived they didn't have the code for our hotel room. Once given the code our room still wouldn't lock. In our room we had no curtains but curtains on the floor, with rods, bags of trash on the floor, wet towels in the bathroom, and a water bottle with possible urine in it. The Tv was not plugged in and not connect to cable. Outside our bedroom it was extremely loud, we heard one fight and the police arrived and around 3am someone was screaming again want to fight? We checked out at 7:50am no one was at the front desk and we waited for over 15mins and decided to leave a note and check out. We will not be staying here again. read more

The most HORRIBLE hotel experience I've had! When we got the the staff was already fighting and arguing with each other. We had to wait about 20 mins just to check in! The couple in front of us couldn't check in due to some payment issues and instead of not causing a scene they were fighting arguing and being loud with them. Finally after we got our "room" we walked into the door only to find the beds half made with half drank coffee cups on the beds used towels on the floor and full trash! the hotel is falling apart and just looks dirty! we complained and they gave us another "room". this one smelled like cat piss, that's bc they actually allow animals in this hotel. I absolutely loved my stay here. To begin, I was blown away by the cost of these ligit full apartments. I have spent more for one night on a shitty motel room than I did at the Canterbury Suites for 1 night in the family suite (which is one of their more expensive room options). Seriously it was a steal! Since my first stay there I have returned numerous times, staying in different types of suites and each and everyone has exceeded my expectations when compared to what I was paying for it. The suites are very clean, nicely decorated, the kitchens provide you with everything you may need for cooking and preparing meals, beautiful original hardwood floors, and the beds are tempurpedic might I add! On top of being completely satisfied with the apartment suites, the rest of the hotel atmosphere is also amazing. To get to the lobby you walk through a beautiful patio area abundant with gorgeous succulents, it is a very enjoyable area to sit around in and enjoy being outside. While appreance and cleanliness is very important when it comes to a hotel, equally important is the level of hospitality one receives from the staff, and every encounter I had with each different staff member was extremely exceptional. When originally booking my suite I was a special case because recently my ID was stolen (but I had pictures) and when many hotels wouldnt work with me Canterbury Suites was so amazing and helped me out with my irregular circumstance. I do not have her name but I am extremely grateful to that staff member. Every employee met me with professionalism and kindness, especially Devan.. he was fantastic and when I was staying for an extended amount of time he was looked out for me and made sure I had a reservation at the best cost possible. When I have so many great things to say about Canterbury Suites it may be confusing why I only rated them 4 stars, that is because I do have just a couple remarks where they can improve. First of all when trying to call the front office it was almost always impossible to get through and have someone answer... very annoying. And secondly, it is Hollywood so parking is an absolute nightmare, not their fault however. Never the less, I do think there is a solution. Right next door there is a parking garage but the rates are insane, so it would be nice if Canterbury Suites worked out some kind of agreement with the parking garage for their guests to get some sort of validation to park there when staying at their hotel. Sorry for writing a novel.. but I really loved this place! And wanted to inform others on a nice affordable place to stay because I feel like I found a hidden gem with this place. read more

This 'hotel' was advertised as a 3 star hotel on Travelocity and we have already reported it. One thing they said was that parking was include. It was not - a VERY expensive lot is next door where there is not security. Apparently there is free street parking all around - but there is trash and lots of people loitering out - I would never want to park there at night time. This is not the definition of included parking. There was trash and a urine smell as we walked up. We saw that there were several large dogs inside the hotel - it is pet friendly but FILTHY. One dog barked and several started barking - it was loud. We noticed also as we walked up that there was one window that was out and covered with something (cardboard or wood- not sure). It was VERY run down and did not appear safe or clean. We have tried to get our money back from Travelocity as this was clearly more of a 'weekly or daily rate' type motel - not a 3 star hotel - the Motel 6 directly across looked like a very nice hotel if you would like to compare. We left and did not stay as it felt dirty and unsafe. I literally booked another hotel because it felt so scary - we just didn't want to risk it. The people at the front desk were nice, but that was the only nice thing I can say about this place. Do NOT stay here with kids or if you are at all concerned with cleanliness or safety. read more

Please do yourself a favor and do not stay here. I booked this place for a weekend vacation to Los Angeles. We arrived around 9:30pm and went to check in. They stated that they could not find our reservation. I booked the room through their own website?? Anyways... they had overbooked their "hotel". So they did end up finding our reservation but they didn't have any rooms for us anyways. It was a blessing in disguise! We did not need to stay here. I didn't look at the yelp reviews until after I had booked it. Cockroaches and mice in the rooms. NO THANKS. Pay a couple more bucks and stay down the road in a decent place that can actually hold your room and be clean!!! Also not to mention we had to call around to a ton of hotels in the area who were all sold out. Luckily we found "Mama Shelter" and that place is truly amazing. 0/10 for the Canterbury Inn. read more

A great location a block from all the fun stuff, including my favorite old classy restaurant, Musso & Franks from 1919. The Hollywood Bowl is a 20 minute walk. Very nice old hotel, a trip back in time to 1928. Old growth wood floors squeak underfoot, with fine mahogany trim on the stairwells. The single elevator is up a few steps, so you will be mostly using the wood stairs. The furnishings and decor are new, but the bathroom fixtures are dated. If you are a fussy complainer about that kind of stuff, find a modern hotel. Don't stay here and then complain. I'm not fussy, and loved it. That's why this place is cheap. But it won't be cheap for long. It's going to be trendy and chic. The manager Timothy greeted guests with his gracious Tennessee southern hospitality. Some of the lucky guests got handed a bottle of wine at check-in. The Hotel is a work in progress with ongoing room remodels, and grand plans for a rooftop bar with a panoramic view. Until then, you can enjoy outdoor space in the expansive courtyard. It's a good place to relax with a cigar. The Canterbury is inexpensive and fun. Enjoy it now before it goes high end. read more

First off, the gentleman at the front desk was very helpful with genuine customer service. The building is old with original fixtures but clean and charming. It had a lofty feel. There's a parking structure next door but I found street parking a couple blocks away. Very close to everything, just off of Hollywood Blvd (walking distance to shops and attractions on the Blvd). The entrance at the gate has a specific code as well as the door to my room, which were super easy and convenient for me. My room was considered a studio but it has a whole kitchen with microwave and full fridge and dining table. Very spacious rooms with plenty of windows. I'll definitely be back. read more

Staying at the Canterbury Suites in Hollywood was a fantastic experience. Even though I had booked the hotel for the week after i was supposed to stay there they worked with me and found a room for the evening. The clerical staff was very quick to help us find a room and made light of what could have been a huge mistake. The actual apartment came fully equipped with dishes, cookware and coffee that we used to make meals for the weekend. The bathroom shower had a big faucet and had warm water the entire stay. Overall our stay was excellent and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great stay. read more

This place is dirty. The building was built in the early 1900s which is cool however the place is unclean. Floors are vintage wooden however very dirty and un kept. Our TV never worked staff was not particularly friendly when we complained about the TV. Staff was not able to get any channels on TV. We stored food in the refrigerator and had to throw it out due to roaches crawling on our food. Nasty! No parking we had to park in city garage next door for 15 dollars a day. Cute and charming. No not a fancy modern hotel, it's a work in progress, revamping a historical building which is why it's cute and charming. If you want a fancy generic Hilton experience go to the Hilton ‍. This spot is close to Hollywood Blvd which is convenient if that's what you're here for. The rooms are huge, complete with a real kitchen, feels like a studio apartment. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and down to earth. Our TV wasn't working and they sent Billy from maintenance up to fix it, he was also super friendly and helpful. I would prefer this experience to a generic hilton stay any day! I used to love this building, and was seriously considering living here, but then I realized how anal management is and that they let the tenants walk their dogs in the courtyard, so it reeks of urine, and my last experience here, my friend who lives in the building had asked me and a friend to come over, and just like I see plenty of other peoples guests doing, someone was walking out and they held the gate for us, so we went in without buzzing, considering we were invited, we thought this was okay, and it was early so our friend had Fell back asleep, so we waited in the lobby, and I was charging my phone, when management decided to tell us that we aren't allowed to wait there, we either have to wait outside the gate or be in someone's apartment??? So you have a lobby(which is known to most people to be a WAITING area...) anyway we just paid 50$ for an Uber to his place, so we weren't just going to leave, anyway so we waited outside the gate until our friend woke up and told us we could come in, and someone was walking out again, so thinking since we were told to come in, we could just go in, but this time we were met by I'm guessing a friend of management? But someone who didn't even live in the building, and this person harassed my friend, asking where we are going, telling us that we aren't even allowed in the building, or in our friends apartment?? and if management reads this I hope you tell your friend, they HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL US OR ANYONE ANYTHING, or even speak to us, she has no room to speak when she doesn't even live in the building and has no position in management, so if you move here be prepared to have management, their sister, and the homeless guy on the street harass your guests about the rules in the building, meanwhile this women who was helping management harass my friend, was letting her dog shit and piss in the courtyard, which they have signs that read (no poop) but Besides the security guard who is super cool and always nice when we see him, the management needs to take some classes on being a genuine human being read more

We stayed at the Canterbury Suites earlier in the week. We really liked the vibe of the building - it is very old and looks to be beautifly designed. The wood floors in our hotel room looked as if they were the original floors from when the building was built. So cool! The bed was very comfortable and the entire room was very clean. Our room had a cute little "kitchen" area with a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, etc. I only have two complaints - we could hear every single noise in the hallway from inside our room. We heard people running through the hallways and shouting at each other throughout the night. Also, the lady working at the front desk when we checked in must have been new or something because she had no idea how to check us in and had to ask for help from another employee. read more

This place is a nightmare! Bed bugs and roaches abound. Homeless people have be found shooting up in the basement. We have had 5 managers since this property was named Alexa Suites. They renamed the property but have done nothing to fix the problems. Landlord is turning this into an AirBnB so to run off tenants he has removed the laundry room and is constantly changing locks and gate codes to antagonize the remaining tenants. The guests are constantly having issues requiring police intervention. Pot and meth smells are rampant in this non smoking building. It also leaves us vulnerable to random homeless etc.. wandering our halls. "Superficial Renovations"and poor property management leave us without water constantly. Construction debris leaves everything filthy. But we do have a nice courtyard. Wish the rest of the building lived up to its promise. read more

I called to let them know I would be checking in late. Turns out they were overbooked for the night. They claim to have notified the third party Expedia, but when I called Expedia they said they were not aware. They offered to move me to their sister hotel Casa Del Rey Hotel. I looked up this hotel and found no information on it and they were not even able to provide a number for the front desk. We were only staying one night and were all very tired, so we stayed at Casa del Rey. Turns out this was not an actual hotel. It was a very sketchy apartment building! Our room was on the 4th floor. Throughout the night there was constant noise in the hallway. The smell of the room and the sheets was horrible. Overall it was a very disappointing experience. If they are overbooked at The Canterbury Suites and they try to have you stay at Casa Del Rey I recommend you turn them down! I was also very disappointed with Expedia since they suggested I stay at their sister hotel without even confirming this was actually a hotel. read more

I booked this hotel through Expedia for a trip to LA in March. California was shutting down because of COVID so I tried to call Expedia to cancel but they would not answer the phone. I called the hotel and explained the situation and was told they could not help me. I tried a number of times going back and forth from Expedia to the hotel with no luck. The hotel charged me the full 952.00!!! Now they will not answer the phones!!!! I emailed them several times with no response. During this horrible time you think they would be more understanding 952.00 was my vacation money now its gone. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I filed a complaint with the BBB and they have not been able to get a hold of anyone. My trip was to see my son now I cant because i lost money so even when things get back to normal I dont have the money to go. read more
