First I have been in the building maintenance for over 25 years. This was the worst hotel I've ever been in. What is even more frustrating is that the following morning I reported what I had found. To front lobby person i had ask to have talk to management. They said the person wouldn't be in until 4pm . Even afterwards I never got a call or response back from anyone. Wow. Where do I even begin? If you're looking for the full post-apocalyptic experience without leaving town, look no further -- this hotel *nails* it. First off, the place has a certain "haunted health hazard" charm. The lobby had a distinct smell of wet carpet and regret, and I'm pretty sure the stains on the walls were older than I am. The room? A masterpiece of filth. Stained sheets, a shower that looked like it had hosted its own ecosystem, and bugs that clearly paid no mind to the "Do Not Disturb" sign. Bonus points for the flickering lights -- great ambiance if you're into horror films. But the best part? The surprise charges on my credit card *after* I checked out! Because who doesn't love mystery fees from a place you were desperate to escape from? I called to ask what the charges were for and was treated like I was the inconvenience. Fantastic customer service -- if you enjoy being gaslit. In short, if you're hoping to get robbed *and* contract something questionable in one stay, this is the spot. BED BUGS--DO NOT STAY HERE! Came here with my family to stay and after settling in, I saw a LARGE bed bug crawling on the bed near my feet. This place obvi isn't the fanciest and we knew this, but there has to be a BAD infestation with seeing them this size..not sure how housekeeping hasn't noticed and/or addressed it but I am completely and utterly disgusted. We changed out of our clothes we got into bed with and left them all behind so we don't risk bringing the bugs back to our home! So not only did we lose money from the booking but also leaving our belongings behind and not to mention a HUGE inconvenience to have to pick up and leave at 10:30 pm unexpectedly. Room 205, Our tub had stains that looked like blood. Ironing board would not stand, iron was burnt on the bottom. We stayed there 2 nights, the 2nd day they didn't have any clean towels to give us. We were first assigned room 200, it didn't have a phone and the TV did not work. The lady at the front desk then assigned us to room 124. The posted pictures are all from room 124. It was about as nasty a room as you can imagine. Before we even settled in my wife made me take her to the Walmart down the road a bit to get some dis-infecting wipes, she refused to touch anything until she could wipe everything down. The remote for the TV looked as if someone spit food on it, so disgusting. I could write a book on this place as we spent 2 days here. It was absolutely horrible! I do not have the space or the energy to write a 100 page essay, however, the pictures should speak for themselves. I wouldn't recommend this run-down, tattered, outdated excuse for a hotel to anyone I know, not even an enemy! At one time this place was probably a very nice hotel, but years of neglect and mediocrity has taken it's toll. Any maintenance and repairs that have been done were not done by professionals, you can tell they were shoddily done by amateurs who didn't have a clue what he/she were doing. I could go on and on about the nasty carpets throughout the place to the wall paper falling down to the sleazy ceiling repairs in room 124. My advice to anyone reading this review .. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS "LODGE", there are to many other choices in the near vicinity. read more

I saw the note about the water for the fire system being broken when I arrived but i didn't expect to be awoken three times during the night for fire alarms. The room wasn't too bad but we did note some water stains on the ceiling. The beds were bad and the plastic mattress cover was so loud that it would wake up the other person in the bed if one person was rolling over and readjusting their sleeping position at night. We did not sleep well. The free breakfast in the am helped - the homemade Belgian waffles were good! They didn't take off my $2.50 safe fee like they said either but I was just ready to get out of there. read more

This hotel's bad experience started right at check in. Was quoted $20 non-refundable deposit for traveling with 1 dog when I made the reservation over the phone and was then told it was $50 non-refundable when I checked in. What?!?! For just one night?? That is the MOST I have been charged anywhere; and I travel about two weekends a month with my well-trained, performance sport dog. Almost went to another hotel, but it was raining, already getting dark and it was just too late to change and had just driven 8 hours. Then, as I was bringing my bags into the room, I wasn't sure I was told the correct room as the door was wide open and propped that way with the luggage rack. Which took me back to the front desk to check, and they assured me it was my room and no one else had a key. Yup, my room comfort level was off to a weird start. Then, discovered the remote to the TV battery cover was loose and turning it off or on the took a minimum of 10 clicks to get any result. I discovered at around 11 pm that the toilet was still "running". Took off the lid and saw that the chain was not attached. Had to head to the front desk where the night clerk had to come to my room and jerry-rig it into place and told me it was not a permanent fix because he didn't have any parts. Awesome. [I had to fix it a couple of more times before checking out -room 141, by the way.] My room key also failed and needed to be replaced several times. We needed a place for 1 night to sleep. For the total $122 price, this fit the bill. The room was clean, and the reception staff were friendly, informative, and welcoming. The lobby has a fireplace and comfortable chairs for drinking a cup of coffee and having conversation. We did not eat the included continental breakfast, though other patrons looked to be enjoying it when we went for an early cup of coffee. There are 2 pools and the interior has a lot of wood rather than drywall or metal, giving it that up-north chalet-lodge feel. read more

Visited Adrian for a family wedding so I booked Carlton Lodge. Good and bad... staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to add an additional night to my stay with no issues. We also requested an upstairs room and ended up changing it because my wife had a hard time with the stairs and with no elevator we decided that the stairs were just too much for her. Bad - Wifi is unsecured - no password and remains absolutely horrible and my cell hot spot gets better speeds. Rooms were reasonably clean - large stain on the carpet in our room... in all honest looked like a pet accident that had not been completely cleaned up. Room was quiet except for one of our neighbors who liked to have loud conversations in the hall early morning and late at night - what is wrong with people? Hotel is somewhat dated and shows a little wear and tear... could use some updates, Breakfast area is cramped with all hot food, waffle maker and toaster crammed into one corner on the counter... tends to lead to a jam while waiting for toast or a waffle to cook. read more

Exceeded my expectations for small town Adrian. They don't have all the modern updates or the quality of some better brands, but I'd call it a solid, clean, three star hotel with a kick as$ pool, tasteful decor, good linens, free wifi, and better than average hot free breakfast. Front desk service was there, but not especially great. They charged me for a roll away that I didn't have and also for that lock box that I didn't use. It's a very average hotel. The saturday morning breakfast was bad. No flavor at all. The staff was very kind and courteous. I'd stay there again based on that alone. I was quoted a price of $99.99 out the door, but when I got there it was actually the pre-tax price, not a huge deal, but they gave me a bad quote over the phone. The indoor pool is very small, There was a party of drunk girls in the pool that were actually drinking in the pool, and another group of young children in the pool while I was there. Made it not enjoyable, had the pool been bigger it would have been fine. Rooms were decent, and the bed was comfortable. read more

The staff here is very nice and helpful. The hotel itself is pretty rundown. The mattress should have been replaced forever ago and the rooms are grungy. I felt dirty the entire time I was here. They have a bar but is closed down until further notice. I don't think we will stay here until after they renovate. Tip: This property does not have an elevator. read more

Their bar and grill is now open and offer food and a full service bar. Nice selection of tap beer options too. Beds were comfy and the staff was super helpful and polite. I stayed here five years ago, and boy, has it ever gone downhill since then. My room smelled like cigars mixed with Febreze. There was evidence of spilled food on the phone cord--which did not work. The pool was not clean and there were cigarette butts on the patio around the pool. I probably should have asked for another room, but I was too busy and tired to move. There were stains on the carpet in the room and the halls. There is no elevator to the second floor. A very kind housekeeper carried my bags up. I won't stay there again. Sadly, it could be such a nice place, but it's a mess. read more

Aside from the fact that this is a lodge and not a hotel, this place provides the same level of service as the Holiday Inn Express down the road. The rooms are standard and spacious, but a bit old-fashioned. Breakfast is complimentary. There is an indoor/outdoor pool. I am not sure if it is open year-round, since it was closed during my stay. I'm not sure if it was the air or the sheets, but every time I stayed here, I had trouble breathing the next morning. After a few weeks of pain, I eventually decided it was better to stay in Ann Arbor and commute the 1.5 hours whenever I couldn't book the Holiday Inn Express. If you are not worried about the breathing, this is probably the only alternative to the Holiday Inn Express in this area. read more

Got in late. Hubs got a Jacuzzi suite. It was a bit difficult to regulate the temp in the room, with the window unit. Either the fan is loud and in your face if sleeping on the side with the window, or it's too quiet when it reaches temp and the fan shuts off, then it get hot really fast. I checked the bed and all looked good. The room was clean. The TV was crap. Stations were fuzzy but we weren't looking to watch TV. The night of sleep could have been better and so could the morning breakfast. The place was busy for 10am - lots of Faster Horses wrist bands tied to hangovers were drooling over their OJs and coffee. Best part of the breakfast are the belgian waffles - but lady kept making eggs. More eggs were not needed. More waffle mix was needed and lots of people were waiting. No biscuits were out but there was a pan of sausage gravy sitting on the counter. Why it was out of the steam table, I don't know. There was also a selection of sausage patties and potatoes. I am not picky - I ate my fill of what was available before starting the day, but I couldn't say the same for my picky husband. He wanted a waffle and she took forever to get around to filling up the dispenser. We left. If you are looking for a bed, shower, and get there early for breakfast - then you are fine to stay here. read more

At first glance the grounds are relatively well kept and it has the definite look of a lodge, which I think gives it character. It only goes downhill from there. After checking in we pulled around the other side of the building where are rooms were to unload. After loading all of our personal belongings and work equipment onto a cart, we searched for the elevator. SURPRISE, there is no elevator! We had to carry our items upstairs and then down again in the morning. Upon entering my room there was garbage and swim goggles shoved next to the refrigerator (See picture) and the carpet strip along the wall looked like a 5 year old took a staple gun to it. The most bothersome of all was kids running the halls in and out of rooms slamming doors and let's not forget the HORRIBLE, I repeat HORRIBLE mattress. I honestly would have been more comfortable in my car. My A/C unit was also not working properly and if it wasn't late and I didn't have so many items to move, I would have switched rooms because I was sweltering. I didn't want to open the window because there was no screen. Sorry, but this place doesn't make the cut. I would not recommend staying here if you want a good nights rest. read more

We stayed here one evening after we picked my my friend's daughter up from college. We arrived late Saturday night and had to wait more than 30 minutes to check in while rooms were cleaned - not what we wanted to do at midnight. Left early the next morning and I forgot my ipad in the room. When I called and paid to have to have shipped to me, Manager Megan K placed it in a plain envelope, not protected in anyway, with the obvious result that when it arrived at my house the screen was shattered. It cost over $400. to repair it, which I had to do because I use it for work. Worst of all, when contacted, Megan refused to take any responsibility for her error. I also contacted the local Better Business Bureau and suddenly Adrian Lodge now has a new policy of not being responsible for anything belonging to their customers. Had Megan even acted sorry, and offered to even split the repair with me I would have been thrilled. I did leave it and that's my fault. But her short sightedness and refusal to do anything to make this situation right reveals the true character of this institution. I will never stay here again and I advise caution if you do. I chose this hotel because I like to support local small businesses. Wow was that a bad decision. The Holiday Inn in town is much nicer and has rooms for the same price. They will have all my business over the next four years. read more

I would give no stars but that's not an option.Arrived around midnight.Got to the room and changed clothes and watched tv.Got into bed and it was like laying on a piece of plywood. After trying to get comfy for an hour, my hips and back were killing me. I called the front desk and the girl said all the beds were the same. Then I tried sleeping on the pull out sofa bed. Even worse! So I packed up and left and slept in my car which was much better.I called and asked for a refund since the accommodations were so poor. To start with the carpets are very stained and some sticky spots. The linen and comforters are less than clean to say the least. They do have a pool but swim if you dare. It might get cleaned once amonth at best. The pool is open to the public which means its crowded with non guests. The staff was the worst part of the experience. Very rude and each one had a chip on their shoulder as if you were lucky to be staying there and you should be greatful that they gave you a minute of their time. The hotel incorrectly charged us which we caught at check-out. The clerk told us that this is not an isolated incident and in fact is a common business practice by the hotel's night audit staff who reconcile room charges to produce a final bill. We were surprised to be told that it happens "a lot", and even more surprised that the problem has never been corrected. Before we left the hotel the clerk assured us it was taken care of, but we discovered when checking our credit card statement that we were actually double charged for our room, a completely different billing error than we discovered at check-out. When we contacted the hotel manager, she was dismissive and apathetic, redirecting the blame at us because we used one credit card to hold the room and another to pay for the room when we checked in. This attitude is likely part of the reason they have not taken the measures necessary to ensure these billing errors no longer occur. read more
