The hotel is in a pleasant and charming neighborhood in close proximity to Hillsdale College and downtown. The grounds are well kept and welcoming. Check in was a breeze and our room was perfect. Some of the rooms do share common bathrooms, but this was expected and fine with us. Back in the day most of Europe was like this and we were used to it. The common areas were clean and cozy, other guests were fun to chat with and the "guest Haas" feeling was welcoming. The continental breakfasts were light and fresh, more than adequate. Overall a wonderful stay at a reasonably priced Inn, the service was way above any place we have stayed in years.

I saw a single desk clerk running around all morning taking care of people, answering the phone and cleaning up tables in the afternoon. She was too young to be a manager and shouldn't have been working by herself with so many people running around needing help. I caught a glimpse of a young man walking around with a mop and bucket, but no other staff the entire morning and afternoon I was in the hotel helping my sister and nephew get their stuff packed up. Three people on staff all day long is a terrible idea. The same clerk who had been rushing around taking care of people all day got yelled at by some other lady and no one stepped up to stop that lady from tearing into the poor clerk. The clerk didn't do anything wrong and kept her cool even when that lady accused her of being lazy and not doing a good job. Poor clerk was on the verge of tears but stayed professional after that other lady stormed out with a bug up her butt. I don't know what the lady's problem was, but she had no business being that rude and demeaning to a person who was just doing her job. Why wasn't there a manager there to support that clerk and help out with so many people in the hotel? Why wasn't there a manager helping to clean up the hotel? Why aren't there more staff present throughout the day in general? If a business or service is supposed to be available 24-7, then there needs to be a manager and full staff on call 24-7 too.

Eggs or a pre-made omelet of some sort, a breakfast meat, breads for toasting, yogurts, fruit, juices and some pastries. The breakfast area was clean. Other than sharing a small plaza with a Denny's and a gas station/pizza place, there is nothing within walking distance. There is lots in downtown Marshall that's only a mile or two away. The lobby is nice and it has a cafe, which we didn't utilize, but it did look inviting. Two local eating establishments are just outside the hotel. Parking is very close to the rooms. This located directly across the street from the Bohm theater, which is a restored theater that is beautiful. There is a micro brewery on the next block down and more renovations being done. Without question this is a great place to stay in this small town.
