Our favorites are the carousel, the pirate ship, the haunted castle and the baby free fall lol. If we are feeling adventurous we will do the giant Doppler (just once!). I'm not sure I can do all-day boardwalk adventures any more. A few hours and we are good. Pro-tip: street parking is just $5 for 2-3 hours on weekdays. No need to pay the all day parking fee if you don't plan to be there that long! Also- bring your own water and save some serious coin!

Two old-school wooden coasters still doing their thing almost 100 years later. The Giant Dipper is loud, fast and has that classic wooden coaster feel, but having it right on the beach surrounded by the Santa Cruz Boardwalk makes the whole experience. Very cool piece of history.

Not only does it work, it vies with Speed Bumps bumper cars as Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk's hotspot where students, blue- and white-collars of all ages flirt with adding a cervical collar--maybe not that drastic, but Space Race's thrill quotient surpasses Speed Bumps' because head-on bumping is definitely allowed, and you can drive backward. The lack of a steering wheel might confuse the first-timer, but it doesn't take long to learn which direction the various lever positions will steer the car. The easiest are both levers forward for forward, and both pulled in for reverse. From there, you'll absorb how to turn without spinning (and being a sitting duck), and how to turn in reverse. New this year beneath the cars are colorful LED rings that reflect on the stainless steel floor, and day-glo art on the enclosure walls that comes alive when the ride starts, the house lights go off and the blacklights take over--a delightful setting in which to wreak havoc. I don't know how many years I have left to ride Space Race. Not because of the impact, but the contortions necessary with barking knees to get seated in the car--you're literally a low-rider--and even worse, jockeying my way out. A man's GOT to know his limitations. On our last of five go-rounds, we had four fellow seniors enter the ride, a first for the day. We had a nice convo with one of them several hours later when we crossed paths on the midway. Daredevil codgers GOT to stick together.

That being said, The Mystery Spot completely blew my mind. With everything I understand about physics and gravity, nothing made sense here. The moment you enter the "cabin" they built, your mind starts to play tricks on you and it feels like something is fundamentally off. I spend a lot of time on the trails and normally never get nauseous, even when hiking or climbing at high altitudes, but this one spot in the cabin completely threw my cochlear balance off. I am super impressed with the plethora of Dad jokes. Thanks Malikai! This Mystery Spot left me wanting to know more about this phenomenon. It is wild to think about--how can gravity feel so incredibly different in just one tiny spot, while the rest of the world follows the rules? Just one tiny spot throws you completely off balance. As someone with relatively low vision in the dark it was just TOO dark to even enjoy the scares. Mostly I got hissing fog machines in my ears and running into black plastic drapes. Felt like I was going through a dark car wash. Ducked out halfway through and felt pretty annoyed about it. Is it scary? If you can actually see the attractions like my husband can, he would've rated it 5/5 stars, very scary. For me? I just wish I could've seen where I was going.

All the seats were on one level, making it hard to see the acts, and a tent pole partially blocked our view. We also asked about upgrading to premium seating and received two different prices from two employees, which made it seem like there was some confusion about the pricing. Overall, the performers did a great job, but the seating and customer service issues took away from the experience. If we had been able to see the show better, it would have been much more enjoyable.

I'm not really going to give away all the details of the ride but let's just say that it was your typical cheesy haunted ride with a car on a track where not so scary things try to scare you in between the broken story line of the horror concept they tried to create. Overall this was a decent ride that I didn't feel like it was worth what we payed for it but overall it was fun and long enough to make it worth a ride again perhaps if I were to get one of the wristbands.

The train ride is less than 10 minutes with no cover so we brought our hats. It's a quick ride and you pass by the parking lot and a park. My girls enjoyed it. After we played by the nearby park. There is a bathroom close to the train ticket booth and lots of tables to enjoy a snack or even lunch. They were just starting the grill to cook the food for lunch but our girls were hungry so we left to get food elsewhere.
