Stayed in one of the Hunters Lodges. Pricey but a great place to throw a party with sauna and hot tub and open plan layout. Friendly drivers take you between lodges and main resort. Our family made good use of the pool, gym, golf and children's activities. Dined at Olive Tree restaurant but Deliveroo will deliver takeaway to the lodges as an alternative. read more

Now when you first enter there is obviously the wow factor and everything looks nice. But I think the biggest letdown is the Price, I stayed in one of the lodges,(lodge 6 to be exact) and it was over about £1,300 A NIGHT which is outrageous but I mean it is considered a 5 star resort however in the actual lodge it wasn't the best.:very small garden,dead flies on the bed,shower door was broken and filthy and even the power plug Exploded! However room service did come and help us replace it. But if it was a 5 star resort! Then it shouldn't have been broken in the first place! In the lodge and all around the hotel there are shuttles you can order (free of charge) to take you anywhere and I guess that is nice. Because it cost so much a night it won't really be possible to stay a long time which leads to the next problem. Because of all the other people staying there it is really difficult to get into activities because you have to book them a day in advance and the app is quite faulty and buggy to even get a chance to book it and because you can barely stay there long. I came into here expecting to experience the 5 star experience and that I would try do do every activity but the sheer lack of time that you stay there it is incredibly difficult to do 4 activities out of the tens of ones it has to offer! In the evenings you can go for a fancy meal but some of them are outrageously expensive! I came here on a family reunion and for our evening meal we went to a buffet called The Olive Tree. In the buffet section you have a wide variety of foods and if you want chips I would recommend you don't have them unless you want your mouth to be filled with potato that is basically uncooked! They were flopping about and so delicate they were all squished and broken in the actual tub. So as a conclusion I think I have enjoyed staying here but the other factors have brought it down it wasn't as unexpected for a 5 star resort. read more

Its such a large and truly beautiful place brimming with people theres golf and a park and places to eat love this place but really expensive and I stayed here as a baby and the waiters and the security guards didn't get mad when I pooped under the table or when I went "missing" because I wandered off! but anyway such a truly beautiful place with amazing decor and a gorgeous view theres also a theatre here and a lot of things to do would recommend it to anyone who is interested and who can afford it ( just bring really fancy clothes ) 10/10 and 5/5 stars! Would recommend and the food is fancy and expensive but gorgeous food and so many food styles the Chefs are truly epic! read more

Soon to be host of the 2010 Ryder Cup this is one of Wales' more exclusive hotels. The hotel is split into 2 sections, the older part towards the back and the newer section at the front. I stayed there for a works function and I was staying in the older section while some colleagues got the posh rooms at the front. I have to say the older rooms weren't anything special, but the suites were very nice indeed with big balconies and very spacious. Of course you come somewhere like this for the facilities and they are very good indeed. The golf course is world class and the club house which hosted a party for us was really lovely, even though it was quite tempting to 'borrow' a golf buggy to get back to the main hotel. The swimming pool and spa were all pristine, the staff trained to high standards and the food was beautiful. Everything you can expect from a 5 star hotel, if you get a room in the new bit that is. read more

So yes you get the wow factor when you come in, the celtic Manor has undoubtedly a sense of class, it is grand and comes with all the facilities you would expect from a 5 stars hotel: golf course, spa and health centre with swimming pool, multiple restaurants, large range of outdoor activities. My welcome/check in at reception was efficient and covered all I needed to know, attentive though very formal. I was pleased with my room, I like it's character and the traditional feel, one could not help thinking how it was a tat dated. I loved the bathroom, nice bath and seperate shower room with heated towel rails. The dressing gown was thick and luxurious, though as in many places the hairdryer was just OK. The room was equipped with a trouser press and and iron board. The main downside of the room were the lack of lighting in the main room, quickly very dark as you only have 3 side lamps working. I also was faced with not being able to plug in my straighteners in front of a mirror as the plugs were not located where you would expect them to be. Finally room cleanliness was not to what I expected, dead fly at the edge of the bay window just after the room being done up, dust (it would not have passed a four in a bed inspection if you know the British TV programme!). So yes sadly just 3 stars as I feel this place as capacity to improve greatly though it is still a fantastic hotel and I would be happy to come back. read more

Celtic Manor had folks like Obama and Cameron over for tea this summer so it's well posh. It has major games like the Rider cup so you can talk your golf sweetie into going. But that ain't why you'll be going. You'll be going for the spa! OMG, what a freaking awesome foo foo shi shi la te da good time. The pool is to die for. A lovely 31C the day I go. Swim all day. Wear your thick terry cloth bathrobe to lunch. Go for a lovely posh spa treatment. The Herbal Steam Bath is almost as good as getting it on with the pool boy. The lunch included on the spa day is a delightful selection of salads and the day I go, it also has cold steamed salmon and cold steamed chicken. Another spa treatment is a great pedicure. If you go for the pedicure or the nails, be aware that there's an hour drying time on the polish so be sure to book plenty of rest time after the spa treatment. read more

Approaching the Celtic Manor from Bristol direction, it looks like a rather huge, ugly hulk of a thing towering up above the motorway, and it's hard to imagine that it's a place of indulgence and luxury. My experience of this huge hotel and conference centre has unfortunately never included its leisure facilities, however (it's particularly famous for its golf course, which hosted the prestigious 2010 Ryder Cup) - but rather I've witnessed its very well equipped business and conferencing side. I attended a business trade exhibition there a couple of years back, and it is really well set up for events like that. Their purpose built convention centre has a 1200 square metre Exhibition Hall with its own entrance and reception, and the Caernarfon Suite holds up to 1500 delegates. They can offer banqueting for up to 800 and there are various other meeting rooms, plus a rooftop garden and a barbecue terrace. The exhibition spaces are flexible, with all the necessary power and network points, and so on - which makes it really easy for exhibitors. Next time I'd like to enjoy the spa facilities instead, though! read more

Words cannot describe just how truely amazing this hotel is. I went here for Sunday lunch recently with some girlfriends of mine. From the moment I entered I felt like a superstar. Everybody was so polite and welcoming. We were only there for lunch but I managed to have a sneaky peak in the spa aswell. Firstly lets talk about lunch. We dined in 'The Lodge'. The Lodge is probably the more relaxed of the six restaurants and one cafe that the Celtic Manor has to offer. It serves good old rustic British food. We went on a Sunday and opted for the carvery. On a Sunday you can expect to pay £17.45 for two courses and £20.95 for three. (Take a tip from me and opt for the three courses as the dessert I had was to die for.) Food and service were both faultless. This was the first time I had eaten at the Celtic Manor but it certainly wont be the last. The atmosphere was very relaxed and dining here was a real treat. On the way out I took a de-tour and had a little lookie at the hotel spa. Girls, this is the mother of all spas. I was only in there for a matter of minutes but what I saw excited me. I went here for a work conference but I would definitely come back for a vacation. The resort is gorgeous and has a wide selection of restaurants all on property. The resort is spread out over a series of different buildings, but they provide free shuttle transportation - just check with the concierge and have them call for you. It seems like it would be a pain but it's actually pretty smooth process. The price was fantastic, but then again I do think we got a deal because of the conference. The spa there is wonderful too. Check the front desk each morning and they'll be a list of daily deals in the spa - I ended up getting a facial for 45 pounds which was fantastic. Newport - the city that the Celtic manor is in - doesn't have a lot happening. However Cardiff is a surprisingly short 10 to 15 minute train ride away. It looks a lot farther on the map. Don't let that scare you. The train is quick and easy and comes several times an hour. I wanna say it was less than 8 pounds round-trip. I definitely recommend this place! read more

The whole golfing experience at the 2010 course, site of the Ryder Cup was amazing! We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Transportation crew was courteous and professional. Menu choices very limited in the 2010 clubhouse, but I am sure that will change with the Ryder Cup. We did manage to get access to a proper breakfast in the morning. The Hotel and grounds make for a perfect family golfing getaway. We ate dinner at the hotel. With the better two restaurants reserved we chose the outdoor barbecue night (their last one of the season). Food was excellent and of good value. Overall this was a golf resort experience that is desperately needed in the US! TOP NOTCH! read more
