Don't mistake the centre for the place they locked up Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. It's not that kind of centre! It is Rolla's recreation and health center. I'm surprised they don't have a website. The best way to get more information is to call them or drop by and pick up a copy of their program guide, Rolla Fun Times. There is a track (1/10 of a mile), a gym, basketball court, volleyball court, and indoor water area. Adult passes are $7 for daily $28 per month for annual, or $302 for one time annual There are other prices for couples, children, students, and seniors. There are also scholarships for low-income families. The have a variety of classes including water fitness, cycling, yoga, pilates, and various leagues like basketball, volleyball, tennis and ping-pong. The hours are pretty good, 5:30 AM - 10 PM on weekdays, and 8 AM - 9 PM on Saturday, and 11 AM- 7 PM for the school year. The gym is pretty good, though they could probably use two benches and two inclined benches (they only have one of each). The water area is amazing. They have a huge indoor water slide, a lazy river area, a shallow water recreation area (for kids), and an area for lap swimming. The indoor water slide is gigantic. You can get a lock to store things in the lockers in the locker rooms, and they have a water extractor for your swimming suit, which removes most of the water. Outside, they have a 9-hole frisbee golf course, which is pretty fun. You can purchase a disc set (three discs including driver, middle-range, and putter) from the centre for $25. The facility is fantastic. The staff is incredibly rude. I have yet to go there without being talked to as if I'm a second class citizen. We recently attended a birthday party at the Centre. One of the mothers brought up the fact that they quit their membership because of how hateful the staff was. We too gave up our family membership because of a condescending manager there. In addition... Straighten your attitude out, or quit asking for tax increases to fund your hatefulness. read more

**Update** I got a flyer in the mail the other day, appaently the classes no longer cost extra? I wonder if that means the fees will go up. We actually just moved away, so it does't matter to us...but I am glad they are moving to that system. ______________ Before we moved to Rolla, we already knew about the Centre....we were super-excited because our house is essentially across the street. I had dreams of becoming a regular there, maybe even kicking off my zumba teaching career....hitting the waterslides in the summer, and overall making it my new home-away-from-home (like the Oakland Y was for me back in CA). But....that's not what has happened. Sadly. The classes here are totally meh. At first I thought that the Zumba teacher was ok, but after going on and off for a few months, I am not impressed. The class isn't really intense enough, and the music is stale. I understand and appreciate doing the same songs so people know the moves and whatever, but seriously...the Selfie song? Still??!? Other classes...I think most of them in the 8:30 slot are all taught by the same person (Jay) now. I understand there was some drama with the departure of the old teacher, but not sure what.....Anyhow, Jay is obviously very excited about fitness and has his followers (including my Boo) but he just doesn't do it for me. I don't really understand the point of playing music (especially during weight lifting) if you're not going to do stuff *along* with the music? I've not done spin (I am kind of outraged that it costs extra!!!) or yoga because neither particularly interests me...there really aren't that many classes, especially if you're not a senior citizen. Now that I think about it, it really bothers me that so many of the classes cost extra (Zumba, Spin, maybe yoga, I don't remember). The membership is definitely not cheap, so it just seems kind of messed up to charge extra. The machines and free weights are fine....I wish there were more barbells in the free-weight area. Or if they allowed people to use the aerobics studio between classes, where the majority of the lighter weights are (and there is space and mirrors for aerobics). I am not sure why they are so strict about that, maybe they are worried about weights walking off or someone falling down in there an not have anyone notice? Boo tells me that the swimming area (nautatorium?) is nice and rarely crowded. It seems like the hours for lap swimming are kind of limited, but I guess they're meeting the current demand. I think it's kind of neat they sometimes show movies Friday nights in the pool area for kids. read more

The Centre cancelled the Silver Sneakers program benefit effective August 1, 2021 because it was no longer financially viable. This means that seniors on a fixed income but that had Silver Sneakers through their medicare supplement plan are out of luck. The reason that it was no longer viable was that Seniors were no longer able to go to the Centre because of their lack of masking mandate. We asked repeatedly for them to require masks on the track as unmasked runners were spewing spittle on the track as they ran. My husband and I went everyday for walking and swimming. The Centre only got paid from Silver Sneakers when we went unlike other people who pay whether they go or not through their membership. Since seniors are an at risk population we had to protect ourselves from pathogens floating in the air. Ridiculously short sighted of the Centre to punish seniors for protecting themselves from dying. Is the Centre not aware that we are still in a pandemic and that the numbers in Phelps County are still unacceptably high due to unvaccinated and unmasked individuals? read more

This place is an awesome gym. Their swimming pool is way more than I ever expected for Rolla. I love the indoor track and how you can run around it and see people working out or shooting some hoops. It is relatively expensive for Rolla, but lack of resources so what can you expect? read more

Alright, this gym is not amazing, but not horrible. The pool is great for kids, especially in the cold weather. Heard a rumor that they are going to rid of the indoor pool to make space for other things? Hope this is not true! The workout space in the gym is pretty decent for a small town, but seems very germy. I am almost afraid to go in the gym with out my own bottle of Germ-X with me. I am not sure how disinfecting the spray bottles they have are, but I KNOW they need to change out cleaning towels often. Eww!!! Play-N-Stay staff are great. My kids love going there. I have not tried a fitness class there, so can't comment on that. But my children have tried a couple classes. All the classes were great except for a few. I haven't taken my kids back to any of their classes lately because we switched to a local dance studio who offers a wide variety of kids movement classes. All in all, not a bad place to work out!!! Just need to change a few things. read more

Terrible customer service! Our family came in from out of town (around 9:00am) to let our kids swim in the indoor pool. We paid $23 because there were 4 adults. After we got the kids into their floaties and they were about to go down the slide, someone came over and said they can't swim until noon. No signs saying that anywhere! Then, when we said we wouldn't be able to come back that afternoon, they wouldn't give us our money back! Seriously??!!! That was unreal. So anti-customer service. read more

I have been a student member of this gym for four months now. The gym has nice equipment and locker rooms and a beautiful view of Ber Juan park. However, the first month I signed up, they lost my paperwork after I paid. It took several weeks to get this fixed and I had to bring them a bank statement to prove that I had paid for the month. This month their system could not run my credit card, so they are trying to charge me fees. This is the same card that has paid every previous month and that I used to pay the remaining month when I went in. There isn't anything wrong with it. The people at the desk were polite to me, but the manager most definitely was not, so it just doesn't seem like they want my business. I will be seeking another gym until they can become a little more organized (and friendly!). Additionally, other gyms in Rolla cost exactly the same per month, are not supported by taxpayers, offer free group fitness classes, and a free personal training session. I'll miss the view, but little else. I advise that if you're looking for a gym, go elsewhere. read more
