The teachers are very helpful and keep in contact. I've never had an easier time communicating with my son's teachers. The school really emphasizes responsibility and accountability. The after school care is also very nice. They have many different clubs that your child can sign up for ranging from computer club to cooking club. Another little bonus is the school is always clean and well landscaped. If you are looking for an elementary school you would like to be near this is the one!

Lack of Transparency and Safety Concerns One of the most troubling issues is the lack of transparency when it comes to our children's safety. Accidents happen--that's understandable--but what's not acceptable is the failure to inform parents when they do. Many times, children come home with bumps, bruises, or scratches, and there's no mention of how they occurred. These incidents often go undocumented and uncommunicated at pickup. As parents, we deserve to know what happens to our children during the day. Failing to report incidents is not just a communication issue--it's a serious safety concern. Nutritional Discrepancies During orientation, we were told our children would receive healthy, well-rounded meals and snacks--including juice options. However, the reality doesn't match the promise. Children report receiving only milk and water, and the food being served contains ingredients like Red Dye 40. Meals such as bean-only quesadillas are nutritionally insufficient for growing toddlers. These are not meals most adults would eat themselves, and our children deserve better. Concerning Language and Classroom Stress Another red flag is the language our children are bringing home. Phrases like "I need something to calm me down" or "I can't keep calm" are not typical of young toddlers. These are not just words--they're reflections of the emotional environment in the classroom. It raises serious concerns about the stress levels these children may be experiencing. Poor Communication with Families Communication throughout the year has been inconsistent and inadequate. When parents are unreachable, staff often fail to contact emergency contacts. We are left in the dark about daily happenings, incidents, or any changes in routine. The only time families were invited into the school was at the very end of the year. Even then, basic safety procedures weren't followed. One child was left outside alone with a new pickup person while a staff member went inside to copy their ID. This protocol should be reversed--child safety should never be an afterthought. Final Thoughts We send our children to school not only to learn but to be nurtured and protected. Unfortunately, this year at Sanders-Clyde Head Start fell short in those areas. I sincerely hope the administration takes these concerns seriously and works to create a safer, more transparent, and emotionally supportive environment for the children. Please remember: these are toddlers. They are at a critical stage in their development, and how we treat them today will shape the people they become tomorrow. Let's do better--for their sake.

This experience had a lasting impact on my mental health and ultimately led to my removal from the school on the advice of medical professionals. I can't say enough good things about Miss Alice in the 3/4s class, as she really goes above and beyond to prepare them for school & life. They are kind & firm about the safety and security of their children and I have always felt that my children were in good hands. The healthy food they serve is prepared on site and my children have requested items from their menu to be prepared at home--which may say something about my cooking, haha, but nonetheless, what more could a parent ask for? Well worth every dollar and every moment I've invested in this place. Highly recommend.
