Newest craft beer venue in Brisbane - complete with onsite brewing!
    Leilani H.

The Charming Squire is mega craft beer/cider venue that has just opened beneath the Brisbane Convention & Exhibtion Centre. A partner venture with James Squire, The Charming Squire is swanky! The venue includes a huge craft beer bar area complete with onsite brewing, a restaurant, function areas with dedicated bars & balconies and during the day a coffee shop. This new kid on the block is the newest member of the Mantle Group family to which all the Pig & Whistles, Jimmy's, East & Milanos and yet more venue belong. The impressive entry area is a huge space from which you gaze up to the brewing vats. We dropped in for a pre-show show bite and even though the place was packed we were served quickly by cheerful staff and our food still came out in a reasonable amount of time. While we waited we took in the interesting design features like graffiti and playing card wallpaper along with the copper, amber and dark mahogony tones then whole place is decked out in. It was Saturday night so yes pretty damn busy but noise level was reasonable and we could still talk. Prices are a bit up there but quality of food & bev was too. We got the vege pizza from the pub menu and it wad delish! Have yet to try the restuarant side so will update review in future. So far this venue is a promising new addition to the Southbank culinary precinct that I'm keen to go back and try again.

The Charming Squire featuring all things James Squire has just opened at Southbank and wow, what a statement! It takes up the majority of the space on street level underneath the new section of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Fit out is very on-trend with lots of beautiful timber and copper. Numerous bars over 2 levels with indoor and outdoor options. A more "fine dining" restaurant at one end. What appears to be a private function space with dedicated bar. Well done to those involved in creating this great new venue. We experienced friendly and helpful staff, and tried a beer tasting paddle (4x 100ml for $12) as well as some small meals ordered from the bar. We tried the current seasonal brew which was delicious and malty amongst other commercially available James Squire labels. I had the pulled pork sliders (so tasty and good value) and hubby had the lamb burger which came with a side of seasoned chips. Will definitely be back. This place will get busy fast!

I have been to a few James Squire pubs in Australia it is so good to have one in Brisbane. The full range of beers are available including an Apple and Pear Cider. They also have a couple of Wines on Tap too as well as a few bottled beers. It was opening night and everything was nice and new they layout is great and gives it a nice modern feel. I was catching up with a mate for beer only so I didn't get to sample the menu, but it looks amazing. A gimmick is that you can see the kitchen from outside on grey st to see what is going on. Can't wait to have a big group function there this will defiantly become my regular.

Great place for drinks !!! However very very very disappointed in the food. Entree cane out same time as main, in one case after main. Steak cooked bit as requested. So I would avoid for good but come for drinks.

Brisbane, Australia - Charming Squire - The food, atmosphere and service were all great !

Brisbane, Australia The Charming Squire The food, atmosphere and service were all great ! I went at 4pm so it was in between lunch and dinner and I had the main dining area to myself. This is a bar and restaurant, it was huge and took up nearly a block. It offers sparkling and still water, cloth napkins and free wifi. The food here is excellent. The atmosphere in the bar had an electric, up beat, lively, fun, trendy vibe to it. The service was on point. I'd definitely eat here again!

    Pork rib

Ordered pork ribs. First got sent to an remote corner to order. Pork ribs and glass of Shiraz $36 well overpriced a few chips or salad accompany these scrawny offerings would of helped. Pork ribs were to sweet for me and the guys at the til obviously had no idea about the food why would they their not even near the Resteraunt. I'm considering not even bothering to eat it. Food was served up on a dirty plate.

Stumbled upon this gem after a run on the South Bank. They were so great and gave us a jug of water so we didn't have to keep getting up to refill our glasses. We got the avocado toast and WOW!!! Us Millennials love our avocado toast

    Oktoberfest brew

We came to the charming Squire after the theatre for a quick drink. Next thing it was closing time and we had downed several pints of the Oktoberfest brew which was seasonal and delicious. We didn't eat there so unsure what the food is like but it's always busy when I drive past.

Came here on a lazy wet Sunday. Been here a few times now, but this is the first time as a Yelper. It was humid and we decided to sit inside . They have a huge selection of craft beer and ciders on tap . The food tasted fantastic, it is expensive, but hey, and the end of the day , but you only live once . It was very enjoyable . With live music in the afternoon . We order the Beef Chunky Ribs, Garlic Calamari . Haloumi Salad . Mushroom & Truffle Arancini Balls . Baked Camembert . Slow Cooked Beef Croquettes.

Great beers and good modern Australian menu. The ribs were very good. The Fish and chips were a bit greasy. No split bills.

Jam-packed with people of all ages from all the countries the beautiful world has to offer. Only catch is, you can only get in if you're a traveller or student (ID/Passport required) and if you're a girl. Although we have snuck the odd guy in with a bunch of girls with much success. It helps if you know the bouncer. They play music with the likes of Love Shack, Horny, Addicted to Bass and a lot of songs popular all over the world with the kids in the 90s era. They do go back to Dancing Queen and Mr Wendal as well and boy can you boogy to the tunes of this place. Be prepared to have some form of alcohol spilt on your fancy clothes every time you go there. Be prepared for people dancing on tables (even though they've banned it). Be prepared to body squish your way from the dance floor to the toilets and then back to the dancefloor with very willing body squichers - usually from Braz-eeeel (Brazil) and write a note on the wall to your ex-lover in the toilets and pretty much throughout the whole bar, on the walls, on the furniture... everywhere. Leave your memory here for free. This place will always hold a special place in our hearts, yes it's not posh, it's rather backpackery... but that's how we would like it to stay. Join in the songs with your hearts and hands and sing and dance to the wee hours to an awesome DJ with various glow in the dark articles through his hair. People have fun here, and that's what being young and travelling the world is supposed to feel like. Footloose and fancy free.

But the layout of the place is even better! It is a basement bar, half of it outside and the other half kind-of-inside. Very spacious, clean and with good selection of beer (albeit mostly mainstream beers, but a lot of them). Very comfortable, with some big TVs and also music. Good people watching too. The food is good, not amazing, but you can't expect amazing in such a central, tourist-y area. I had the wings and they're a solid 8/10, at least. Service was great too. Shout out to Elise behind the bar.

However, like most of the pubs in the CBD, this one does close quite early (though late enough that I was able to slip in here for a drink one night). There is nothing fancy or flash about this pub - expect the standard beers on tap - no craft beers. It also has a pokies area and a bistro, though there is a pool table tucked away in one corner. The beer garden is pretty cool as well, but unfortunately for the smokers it is not the designated smoking area. During the day it does get fairly crowded (though I have never noticed anybody out in the beer garden, despite it being a pretty nice day), but it was fairly quiet when I was there.

But sometimes it's good to get reckless and a bit silly over some beers and some really, really terrible love music. Irish Murphy's doesn't necessarily have bad music (I'm also a sucker for an accent, especially Irish) but they certainly have the collective crowd keen on getting drunk and roaring along to an inaudible and stereotypically perfect karaoke song. Maybe it's the fact that Irish Murphy's adopts an appearance actually like an Irish pub, but I can't help but have a little fondness for it. I have to search for the fondness a little but believe me, it's there. It's just an ideal place to gather around a table and sling back a few casual (or not so casual) beers and get a little messy and fun. And when you've had a few, who can't join in with the crooning and tuning of the blokes on stage? The beer's fairly cheap, the company's not half bad, and the entertainment isn't sot stale either. I'm not trying to sound begrudging here, because like I said, I do have a soft spot for Irish Murphy's. I just like to be with a larger group of people and get a little silly in the name of fun. If you're after slurry banter and Irish accents, Irish Murphy's is the place to be.
