This is not the type of teacher you should hire who steal your students. This review is for the voice teacher Elena Diaz. She promised me and my husband a recital when we first started. Initially my husband was a piano student of Alejandra at Juliet Music and she took him under her wing as her private voice student making him leave Juliet Music. I myself was a student of Juliet music and left to study privately under Elena because she said it would be better for me. She stole me from lessons at Juliet Music. She promised us a recital and other concerts to perform in but from 2013-2018 since we were with her nothing happened. She kept teaching us the same songs and our skills never got better. My husband went to her to study countertenor and tenor. She can't teach him the right way let alone going back and forth on two types of voices. This was really unfair. She forces us to sing karaoke songs from YouTube as our lessons. She had workshops which were all about money and not learning. She doesn't know how to teach the music and harmony. She personally has something against my husband because he was the only one who questioned her. We continued to sing the same songs over again. She didn't know how to drive so many times she had me drive her around for free. Places like from her house to Juliet Music which is ironic since I was a student of Juliet Music, to a wedding we're not invited to where she made us sing without practice, and the college recital of one of her other students which she always describes as "hot". She calls him the Prince of India who at the time was a high school student . The most offensive thing was how she talked about her boyfriend and their sex life during lessons. One time she talked about how she likes the beast and Rolf because they are hairy like the men she likes. She also talks about getting pregnant with her boyfriend during group practices in front of others. This is sexual harassment. She said this in front of young girls and should not be tolerated. She is too friendly with her students and it's as if she's crossing the line. When I first came to her she said I was a soprano so I thought that she would train me. After 5 years with her I never had a performance or recital. Neither did my husband. And I never learned how to sing soprano. In the end my husband did not learn any of the right skills to improve I don't think she ever had an intention of giving us success. My husband and I sing in church where we are well experienced and she had the nerve to teach us songs we've been singing all our lives. Many times my husband and I want to do duets. She can't even figure out the harmonies. She also forced us to watched the recital of her favorite student who has nothing to do with us. Also a wedding in the city who we don't know at all. She wants us to do what she wants because we're "friends" and she wants me to drive her. I was being used for my kindness. She's takes advantage of people especially through her lessons. I really feel that Elena Diaz is not a good teacher and should be terminated.

Parking is convenient. Flexible scheduling for make up classes. Cons: facilities are old and outdated. The rooms need a paint job and cleaning. There is weird household trash in the practice rooms. Front desk is a bit scattered. Messed up our payment and scheduling a few times.

Everyone is so nice and professional that it was an amazing departure from the last school that I took my daughter to! Showed up 1st day of class on time and they were ready to go. It's because all the information were given to us during registration without any guessing game like I had in the last dance school. My daughter learned so much about ballet with techniques that she knew what most of the terms are and showed me the moves that goes with it. The year before in another school was just prancing around with no particular techniques being shown (which I can do at home with music on). Mind you, she was still having fun at this school. Also, school was very flexible and nice about make up. My daughter's elementary school suddenly held an enrichment program for her during her class schedule for 3 months and we rearranged her schedule so that we were able to have her catch up on her dance moves without missing a beat. No fuss from getting her costume (in which they take the time to measure all the dancers), pic day, getting tickets, dress rehearsal and the actual recital because everything was communicate VERY CLEARLY on emails and tickets are order online like everyone should in this day and age and not wait online in the hot sun like the last school I went to. Reason I kept saying last school (you can read my previous review) was because I had it soooooo bad for a year before, something this organized and easy is a very welcoming experience for any parent. If you want a hassle free dance school where your kids actually learned all the relative aspect of each dance and having fun, this is it! PS-Costume are also gorgeous!

My daughter especially looked forward to playing the theater games and participating in the improv exercises, which we were so fortunate to witness firsthand at the end of session showcase. She then worked in the next age group up with Andrew in the spring and had another great experience! After bouncing around to a number of theaters and acting programs on Long Island, we are so happy we found the Lawton Academy. Both Katie and Andrew have demonstrated a real vested interest in nurturing my daughter's love for the performing arts, and I am truly excited to see how she will continue to grow and develop under their guidance. I can't recommend the Lawton Academy highly enough.

They are in two different classes and Katie influenced my 6 year old so much. We find ourselves playing some of the games at home before bedtime. My 8 year old enjoyed working on remembering lines and performing with a partner he loved the friends he got to work with. She teaches all her students proper classroom etiquette as well as proper classical ballet technique. She is always expanding her knowledge of new and innovative ways of teaching and she aims to tailor her critiques to the individual to help each person be able to excel. She is an amazing teacher who's love for ballet shines when she instructs. She is great with kids too and accommodates ballet training appropriately. She also teaches an adult stretch class and she incorporates improv into the children's/teen classes as well which I've seen a little bit of and they adore it! I've so enjoyed taking classes here in the small cozy studio, as new students of any age are always welcome, I immediately felt at home when I started.

The theater is large, with old auditorium chairs that remind me of my elementary school and a tiny stage upfront without good acoustics. It's fine for local artists but I doubt you'd want to see anything large scale here.

Some people even wore homemade costumes. There were several pieces of really cool art displayed in the center's small exhibition spaces. JCAL puts on many events throughout the year, from jazz concerts to children's festivals, as well as other music events, arts/crafts/jewelry making workshops. They have rotating art exhibits. They also have art classes and educational programs. A true community space, made for members of the community, in a lively enclave of Queens.

We walked in there was not even greeted properly, one lady with blond hair was rude and ignored my daughter who wanted her slime to be stretchy and the lady just ignored her! Who does that?? I didn't get a chance to ask her name but the employee with black hair was the nicest one there. She helped my kids out but we left with pretty bad slime and not a good experience.
