Astoria music is really a mom and pop old school music shop that sells and service many different types of musical instruments and they have music teachers as well if you want your little one to learn an instrument or if you the adult want to start a new hobby . Very nice gent who i assume is the owner , looked over my bass and knew exactly needed to be done . A few parts had to be replaced and I didn't mind cause I do recall how nice my fender bass sounded when it was in peak shape . 3 days later it was ready and the sound is exactly what I remembered after all these years . What makes the Rookies class unique is that students are allowed the opportunity to explore different instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and vocals) so they don't need to commit to a single instrument just yet. Group instruction allows the students to work together as a band - playing with other musicians is one of the best ways to improve your skills. The Bayside/Queens location recently changed ownership and was acquired by School Of Rock of Long Island around October 2022. I believe they are going to expand to Forest Hills as well. The students learn 1 new song each month which gives students exposure to many different musical genres (rock, blues, pop, metal, hard rock). They could be playing "Roar" by Katy Perry one week then AC/DC's "TNT" another week. Most recently they were learning the "Twist and Shout" (Beatles version) and "Rockin' Robin" (Bobby Day) - I just realized that School Of Rock probably has to pay a decent amount of money for the licensing/ASCAP fees. At the end of each month of the Rookies class, the parents are invited to watch the children perform the song and it's impressive how much the student pick up after a few hours of group instruction. The older students who receive individual lessons actually perform at a live venue for an authentic rock star experience. I came here to drop off my bass for repair. But I've had bass issues like needing to replace the strings already and having to fix the input jack on the bass. They were very nice here and had the bass done quickly. He is engaging, encouraging and so so nice (not to mention talented). My youngest took drums and made incredible progress. both of my children got to play in a rock band where they were paired with other students so they combine their talents.
