Get out of my head, Mr Amazing Pi Dude! Pieminister pies are always good, but the way they're served can have a certain level of influence. These were done brilliantly... minted mushy peas, vegetarian gravy, the pies perfectly halved and warmed, buttery delicious mash, and it didn't take long to arrive either. When one's got the swimming pool/caffeine tremors and it's cold outside only a pie will do, and this is now my favourite place to come for my fix. Plus, all four flavours of Timmermans? On the same menu as Delirium? Reasonable prices? Are you trying to *kill* me?

Pi gets it right on all of the above and was one of the nicest spots I've hit while in Chorlton. Situated just opposite from Unicorn, the bar is kind of like sitting in a shop with high risen full fronted windows and probably wouldn't sit more than 40 people throughout. For us it was perfect as there was a group of 8 who could easily take a load off on a Friday night and chat with the music not too loud and at 11pm'ish - not too busy as well. They have exciting and interesting beer menu's on each table with the usual suspects from Belgium, the U.S craft beer revolution and local and UK ales on the pumps towards the back. The staff were friendly and fitted in perfectly with this being a kind of place you might pop out of your house for one before heading home to get on with family life. I love these neighbourhood places, I could just do with living nearby to do this... Due to eating at the nearby Tibetan Kitchen, I didn't get the chance to try their pies but they're all from the excellent pieminister so I'd highly recommend getting one if you're in there through the day!

The food is of a good standard and it's a relaxing place to just sit and chat. The service has always been good and one time my little brother had hypoglycaemia and the waitress then was great. The only tiny thing is that on my most recent visit my brother's pulled pork sandwich (in the photo) was tasty but a bit dry so I had to donate my coleslaw to my brother to moisten it. That's the only thing though. It's got a cute little courtyard to eat in at the back. Also tables at the front on Beech road to watch Chorlton go past. They even had a bowl of water for dogs. I like their map of the world made out of wine boxes (pictured) although I assumed at first that the different boxes were from the countries it represented. We came here with parents on a Thursday night (the new Friday as all you cool cats know) and sat down to some delicious wine, a smattering of tomato bruschetta with a criminal amount of garlic (thank the lord I didn't have to speak to anyone on a professional level the next day) and some hearty yet classy dishes. The boys wanted steak, and steak they got. As my friend's dad always says, if the steak's cooked properly, you don't need a steak knife, and these melted away like butter. The seafood menu was like a pick n' mix of fruits de la mer, and this is what the female contingent of the party opted for. My friend's mum went for the fillet of seabass served with a choice of vegetables, and I asked about the fish stew and the Thai monkfish curry. The kind waitress recommended the stew and I was so glad she did. Mussels in their shells, chunks of potato, a tomato sauce and huge hunks of fish had me almost too full to the brim for pudding, where we all decided we'd fight over a single pannetone bread and butter pudding. Rich, fruity and dense, the podded vanilla custard was the perfect partner. After reading Bex T's review I must concur wholeheartedly - Albert's is sleek and chic. The uber-modern clean blue lines would indeed feel at odds with a cosy Sunday roast dinner, although I do hear their roasts are legendary. It shan't put me off, I'll be back to try it. I took my parents here one Saturday afternoon for a little sit down and a hot drink after exploring the local shops. My Dad and I ordered a latte each and my Mum ordered a pot of peppermint tea. Both lattes came out at the perfect temperature and with a good amount of frothy milk on the top. Sadly, the pot of tea my Mum had ordered was a used pot of tea and was therefore half full and stone cold. It seems that one waitress had cleaned off another table and placed the finished with tea pot next to the freshly brewed one, so the wrong one was accidentally bought over. The staff were so apologetic and immediately bought over the actual freshly made pot of tea as soon as we noticed. After that minor mishap, everything ran smoothly and everything tasted just right. I really enjoyed the simplistic style with a few pieces of quirky artwork dotted on the walls. I'd say there's a kind of nautical theme running throughout the café, as there's ropes hanging from the ceiling and a few other seaside/fishing type items dotted around. All very cute and trendy. I'd recommend Rustik to anyone in the area, it's the perfect place (not at all like a standard high street coffee shop) to stop and have a quick drink. Also, the tables are spaced out, so you can enjoy a nice chat or catch up with friends or family without feeling like you're being listened in on.

I was just there for a light tea so we only had olives and ciabatta from the Smaller Bites, these came in generous portions and were very tasty. From the Bigger Bites, I went for the chargrilled chicken, which was effectively a warm salad with rocket, celery and red pepper amongst other things, while my girlfriend went for fillets of seabass with tomato and chorizo - both dishes were well cooked and seasoned and came with a big bowl of hand-cut chips, we didn't leave any of it! The food is marvellous, the drinks range wide enough. It's as if someone airlifted a bar from the northern quarter and dropped it in the middle of fallowfield for my convenience. Another amazing thing about this place is most non-students won't venture here because it's nicely tucked away, hidden behind the hullabaloo of wilmslow road. Others will probably be put off by its awkward location at the end of a road full of terraced student houses. But if you can look past the studenty atmosphere you'll realise that actually a lot of the punters are either older students or local young professionals. I just love the decor and layout of the whole place. From the small intimate dining/cafe/bar area downstairs, to the live music bar and terrace upstairs. It's a real hidden gem of fallowfield. I've been coming to live music nights here for a while and discovered Glass Tides (my favourite Manchester band) here. So the place holds a special place in my heart. Love it and so will you. I don't feel judged for preferring beer and being a wine Luddite. Sadly this aspect pales in comparison to the other new wine bar over in Didsbury and I do wish they had opted for a wider selection of beer if only to make use of the large number of fantastic local breweries rather than opting for keg beer shipped up from London. The menu consists of light snacks, charcuterie and cheese platters on the whole, with a limited but precisely chosen list of mains. Looks delicious as would be expected by the guys also known for Parlour on Beech Rd; items such as Air Dried Beef & Chilli Bresaola, Rocket, Artichokes & Parmesan. The decor actually looks quite nice and spaced out. The big wooden chairs look more like chairs in a church than made out of pallets. They weren't as heavy and clunky as I'd expected nor did I get any splinters as they are all varnished. As the place was busy we were sat outside. There were four large tables outside with room to add extra chairs to our party of 7. I only managed to have a large glass of Pinot Noir before the cold got to us and we moved on where we could be indoors and get some food. I will definitely visit this place again and try out the food and match it to their extensive wine list.
