Belgium is famous for it's chocolate and 'The Chocolate Line' is known as one of the best chocolate shops in Bruges(if not Belgium). It does come at a cost but the quality and combination of flavours are so amazing that I still have given it 5 stars. Every flavour imaginable seems to be represented in some way, wasabi even. They do a variety of spice based chocolates, I particular loved the cinnamon one but they also had lemongrass, chilli all bringing out a complex and fascinating symphony to play on the taste buds. The shop window had a huge chocolate dinosaur this year but I understand the display changes regularly. read more

"We are artisanal. No chemicals. No gluten free no egg free no nothing. Maybe that's why we are so good." When we tried to understand if any of the chocolate had egg in it due to our sons egg allergy this is what we were told. So, apparently all their chocolate has egg in it. We tried to understand if it had egg INSIDE it or just cross contamination- our son is fine with "same facility". They refused to entertain our questions. Most other places have been much more accommodating to try and understand the allergy issue. So sorry if we have to make sure our son won't die eating your product. I found the two people we spoke to unhelpful and rude. read more

This place is so freaking cool. I love chocolate, I love experimentation with food and flavor, and this place takes that to the max. I was pretty thorough and read those all of the flavors before choosing the ones that I wanted. The staff is not too helpful about helping you narrow down choices, but if you're overwhelmed, share what you like and then get some recommendations there. I was willing to buy everything so I got a gift box and then picked some that looked the most interesting (I think that worked). Best or second best? Recently they won an award as best or innovative chocolate makers and I can see why. We visited here and though I still think Dumon is slightly better, it could be considered a toss-up. All chocolate is made on premises and the flavors are very distinct and at times, very unusual. I find the only issue at the store is the lines. People huddle around the huge assortment at the counter as they pick their flavors,often asking what they are. But that is a store function and nothing to do with the actual product. This visit we only went to Dumon and here since I do not think the others come close (including the venerable Neuhaus which you can get anywhere and has gone big corporation) In a sea of pretenders The Chocolate Line takes risks with their product and it has paid off well for them; not just financially but in quality and recognition of that quality. The Chocolate Line is a fancy chocolate shop in historic downtown Bruges. Here you can find Belgian truffles, chocolate bars, and other sweet treats. The wares are mostly intended as gifts, and they're a bit pricey - the options aren't as optimized for immediate consumption. But I was able to buy just two truffles to try myself, and they were quite good. Overall not a must-stop, but if you're in need of chocolate truffles for yourself or for someone else, this is a good option. read more

What makes these sweets so special is not only the superb presentation, but that I was constantly faced with choices of chocolate that caught me totally off-guard. I'd expected mostly straight up chocolate (and there was plenty of that), but kept running into flavors I never thought a traditional shop would work with. Kiwi? A little bit too sweet. All the travel books seem to hold this one out as THE shop to buy pralines. And don't get me wrong--they get 5 stars because they are awesome and delicious and I'd live here if I could. But I think the ideal thing is to try several different chocolate shops (praline shops, whatever) because they are all unique and tasty. I just can't say this one was MORE special than the others. I had been told by my hotel that it was the most famous chocolate shop in Brugge and the long lines confirmed that. I wanted florentine cookies but they were out, so they said they wold make some for me! A few hours later I came back and I had florentine cookies :). Amazing! The Chocolate Line is totally worth going to. I was a bit overwhelmed by the crowd in there as most chocolate shops were sedate by comparison. The vibe was also younger and more fun with cool packaging on items and fun things like chocolate pills. I came away with a chocolate covered marshmallow and a handful of milk chocolates in a bag and they were all utterly delicious!! I don't know why Belgian chocolate is just so much richer and more delicious than any other kind, but it is! read more

Before I go to Bruges, I haver looked for the famous chocolate shops. At the reseption of our hotel the chocolate line was one of the recommendations. We got also the hint that this shop is one of the most expensive shops in Bruges. Last week they offer pralines for 48 EUR/kg. So my selection becomes more little. I was really overstrained by this very very big assortment of chocolate and pralines in this very nice shop. The furniture is build of wood in the colours of dark and milk chocolate. The pralines build spires side by side in different forms made of dark, milk and white chocolate with a big amount of tastes. So I ask the gentleman behind the counter, who was only a few centimeters larger than the counter and mountains of pralines, to create a mixing box for me. Additionally to all these pralines the chocolate line offers different kinds of chocolate from different countries from south america. There you find white, milk and dark chocolate with different amounts of cocoa. I cannot left the shop before ordering some chocolate from mexico. I hope to come back to Bruges early for testing the next types of chocolate regardless of the high price. It is such a consumption to let the chocolate melt on your tongue, I will have to have it again and again. read more

I was in Brugge on a day trip which would not have been complete without stopping in at The Chocolate Line. On a tray above the glass counter were these "supersized" chocolate-covered, best marshmallows I've ever had. It sits on a nutty-flavored round biscuit and sprinkled with bits of hazelnut or almonds. My other new favorite is the Apple (caramel with balsamic vinegar + praline with Granny Smith green apple = super goodness). read more

I initially went here because I had read about it being the best chocolate store in Brugge. Upon arriving, I was reassured. Half of the shop is reserved to an open concept chocolate making process showing you all of the machines and steps that are required, and the second half is dedicated to the chocolate shop itself. It is the place where I saw the most beautiful, elegant, exotic flavors and sweets. Definitely worth a look. I spoke to one of the employees that was making chocolate and she said that tours were available if you were part of an organized tour group but it was informative regardless. read more

Bruges has turned into a bit of a tourist trap but this place is a gem. It is the best chocolate store I have ever been to. Affordable and yet delicious. So many things to try. Chocolate overdosed indeed. They even have cuban cigar chocolate. I'm a simpleton so my favorite is hazelnut chocolate packed with whole hazelnuts. I can't seem to find anything like that in the US. The Chocolate Line was one of a few stops we made to indulge our chocolate habit while in town at the end of August. It's a little off the beaten path, in that it's a few blocks off of the main market square in Bruges' center. When you do go in, the first thing that will catch your eye is some of the artwork, which has a flair for the dramatic and is quite colorful. However, you will probably eventually gravitate towards the front, where all of the various chocolates (including the individual truffles) are waiting. We ended up grabbing a box that we selected based on the choices. I have to say that my favorite reason for eating the chocolates here is that it didn't stick with the traditional Belgian flavors, but that it incorporated flavors from all over that really popped with the chocolate and brought it more to life. The designs are also a bit more fun as well; the 'skull', for example, is a jelly-filled chocolate - very apropos when you take a bite out of it. The traditionals (such as pure hazelnut praline) are delicious, but others, such as a green tea praline that really infused the chocolate with the warmth of matcha without overshadowing the sweetness of the chocolate really demonstrated how the chef is able to meld inventive ingredients into classic Belgian chocolates. If/when I make it back to Bruges (or anywhere else where they may have shops), the Chocolate Line will be a must-stop. The chocolates are delicious, and the shops seem to reflect the fun, carefree attitude that Dominique showcases around the store. read more

After being told about this chocolate shop and considering the chocolate rampage which I was on at the time, I thought this would be a must visit. It certainly is. The Chocolate Line is a fun store with a great team, in fact they gave us great advice and recommendations for restaurants and travel ideas while in Brugge. Many wonderful and very interesting treats live in this shop, from little chocolate frogs to wasabi pralines, so if you have an adventurous side, come here! I have tried many of the Chocolate Line's different chocolates, at least half of the many options during my visit (we went five times during our three day visit to keep on trying different chocolates without getting too tired of them) and I must say there are many winners here. Also, after having tried many other of the supposed high-end chocolatiers, this store I find to be particularly reasonable in price for its pralines. The reason I do not think I can give it five stars is that there are some (in my humble opinion) clunkers among the various chocolates. I found some of them to be rather off-putting and simply not worth eating. Overall, a must, but do not expect every piece you eat to be a home run. read more
