The stage at Capers is massive, the house is spacious with 250 seats, ticketing booth that's not a tiny box, enclaves to have concessions, merch, different vendors, an art exhibition, partnership venture or any other nice events such as this Piccolo Spoleto SC Public Radio & Shortwave Kitsch Radio Show collaboration! I graduated class in 1981 it is constantly rated as one of the top colleges in the nation and one of the top colleges in the south in general in my opinion of course I'm biased. It is the best military college in the United States. read more

What is not to like about ducks, pictures, alcohol, food and guns! Was that this location for the Ducks Unlimited auction and had a blast watching Everybody spend more money and one night and it takes me to make in 6 months LOL. In the end it's all for a great cause and everybody had a blast and staggered home. It is very well put together and the staff to an excellent job making sure everyone is taken care of and leaves responsibly. Can't wait to visit again for this event next year. read more

I can only comment about the weekly "retreat" (cadet parade and review) as this is all we had time to see on campus. Every Friday at 15.45hours, the cadets stand down for the week and the colors are retired. Each platoon marches onto the green, accompanied by a marching school band. There is an announcer and he gives some background to the ceremony and acknowledges visiting dignitaries who are making the review. It's a pretty impressive sight! Most of the undergrads on campus are cadets from what I read. But you also know, they are still college kids. After the retreat, many moms and dads are there to pick up their kids for the week end - complete with laundry to bring home. read more

It takes you back to those days of basic training and the memories of wearing reflective belts. Long gone are my days of having a Lackland Laser. The students are nice and helpful giving directions to different things on Post. The gift shop on campus has everything you need with a coming Starbucks and looked to be Chick-fil-a. The Citadel is a great place to go for a walk and show some out of towners (especially if they served) some awesome military memorabilia and various honors to past Cadets. I was a TA for awhile hear and majority of the Cadets and professors I came in contact with were very nice and informative. If you have any questions just feel free to stop and ask someone, they will surely help. The Citadel is a great place to take visitors, especially those who have served in the military or have an interest in it and its history. Be sure to check out the memorials around the grounds and read the dedications. The bookstore was recently redone and they're going to be opening a convenience store near it soon. If you're thirsty and have cash, the drink machines outside the bookstore (under the stairs) are cheaper than in the store. Good place to stop for bathrooms too, if you're walking the campus. If you're coming for sports, there isn't a bad seat in the house at football or basketball games. Prices are reasonable too. read more

The Citadel is a really special place to me. My dad graduated from here in 1988, so my siblings and I grew up visiting the college from time to time. The history of it is really neat, and the campus is pretty despite the more severe look of the buildings (it is a citadel after all). All of the cadets seemed very friendly and polite, and it felt very comfortable for me as a tourist. We visited the small on-campus museum, and that was cool to get a glimpse of Citadel history. We also went to the bookstore/gift shop and found lots of cool souvenirs. The Citadel has played a key role of Charleston's history (as you will learn), so you should definitely take the time to visit this memorable spot. read more

Decided to visit today after a late lunch. Being new to the south side of the country I have much to still see and explore so since this was close by our lunch location we went for it. Campus isn't enormous but big enough. It was a treat to learn about the campus, cadets and see some history. This is a military college for all branches of service after college should the graduates decide to join the service. My friend and I went to the gift shop, Cathedral, library and museum. The museum is very small (one room), located on the 3rd floor inside the library. Overall a great place to visit. read more

As a veteran, you can go to school here and NOT WEAR A UNIFORM or be a cadet. The school's VA staff is super helpful. Regarding educational things, as a computer science major, the department may be small, but it is mighty. I don't know so much about cadet life, but as a day veteran student, it's like going to a "normal" college, but with people who a) have to show up to class, b) tend to care more about classes since many have scholarships they want to keep, and c) wear the 2 different outfits all week. read more

The campus was very pretty. We went on a Saturday and it didn't seem like much was going on besides a wedding. I heard if you go on a Friday, the students march and put on quite the show. If you don't know much about the school and are just in town, check out the Friday (and sometimes Saturday) parades around 3pm. There's a full bagpipe band, all of the companies march out, cannons fire fake shells, it's all fun to see and quite impressive. They also have a very walk-able campus with much to see just by parking in the public parking area and walking the grounds. Peek inside the chapel (it's gorgeous and beautiful around Christmas time especially). Check out Mark Clark Hall to see where the cadets get their mail, haircut, and shop for supplies. They also have a full gift shop should you be interested in buying memorabilia, a book by a Citadel grad, an SC trinket, etc. The education is hard to beat. Beautiful and unique architecture at this military college! Very glad we had an opportunity to see the grounds.

I work here, so I am going to refrain from my usual yay or nay kind of review and just identify some points of interest. Friday's during the regular school year is the best time to visit, as most Friday's there is a dress parade. This is a full military review for the cadets and they get judged on their performance. The band and pipe band also perform as well, which is the highlight of the event, other than the cannons being fired off. Parade times are different each week so check the parade schedule here: http://www.citadel.edu/root/parade-schedule. Visitor parking is available all around the parade ground, except in front of the barracks. Don't take a chance and park in a permit only lot because you will surely be ticketed by campus public safety. All around the parade grounds are military related artifacts, mostly dating from the Korea/Vietnam era. There is a museum located on the third floor of the Daniel Library, but has a separate entrance on the side of the building closest to the main gate. The museum is free and doesn't take that long to go through. The hours are 12-5 every day. Stop in the library to get help with directions and a brochure for a self-guided walking tour. There are several murals depicting Citadel history as well. The library has two computers available for public use for general internet browsing if you need to look something up or check your email, but no access to a printer. Food options are a little limited on campus, but there is a newly renovated Food Court, nicknamed "The Canteen" to get some food, drinks and a self serve milkshake machine. A gift shop is also available during business hours for souvenirs and a light offering of snacks. Many of the places on campus are available to the general public even though it might not seem that way. There is a barbershop, a print shop (think Kinkos but a lot cheaper), a US Post Office, a Dry Cleaners and tailor shop, and a Cadet Store (not just for cadets despite the name). If you visit The Citadel, make sure to take a walk around Hampton Park if time allows. read more

The campus of the Citadel is gorgeous! Watching all of the students/cadets walking around campus to their classes and catching part of the tour make for an interesting way to spend an afternoon. Contrary to what Julianna said, only about 25% of the student population goes on to serve in the military. All of those students are in the military by choice. That would mean that 75% of the student population goes on to the private sector. Basic mathematics. What is drilled into these students is a respect for structure and authority, which I feel should be part of everyone's college education especially if you look at most of today's students. If after learning about structure and discipline you choose to disregard it, the onus is upon you. The campus is beautifully maintained and the architecture is unbelievable. Take a walk through the museum on campus and get a feel for the college's history. Take the hour or two to drive out and walk around the campus if you're in the area! read more

As far as service-like universities go (compared to the USNA, West Point, VMI, and a dozen others that we've been to visit), it lacks the strong architecture and design that others boast. While the structures are interesting, they do have a slight sand-castle feel. But, that is a matter of architectural taste. Watching the students prepare for class and other activities is interesting, but other service universities may be more appealing. read more

Overall a good experience with my first two grad classes. They threw a wrench in my plans by calling me in, 5 weeks in, claiming I owe $900. Apparently, the Certificate is "online" even though my classes were on campus. I didn't get a lot of help from my advisor. I took it up with the Dean, and she waived the upcharge.
