This is a comfy place to sit and chat, and the rotating beer selection is amazing. We have been coming here a few times a year since it opened. The beer choices are always interesting. My friends and I were so excited to spend time at Flora since we had heard so many great things about it since we left Ottawa in 2018. Parking was easy to find, and one of the girls even walked over from their place. When we entered, we spent a few minutes in the first room, where it appeared walk-ins could purchase beer to takeaway. We waited to see if we needed to be sat by a server, but, nobody came to check on us, so we meandered past the several men purchasing beer to go. When we made our way up the stairs, passing multiple staff, we were abruptly greeted by a staff member who, was not kind to us. She let us know that we made a mistake by not waiting to be seated, and she seemed quite disgruntled that we had made our way this far. We tried to explain that nobody helped us and that men had covered the sign that she referenced to wait to be seated, and we did not see it. She interrupted and did not let us explain. Finally, she took us to a dark table upstairs. We asked to be moved since it was, very dark, and not the vibe. Thankfully, the server that took care of us was kind, but, we were surprised to not be allowed to order flights. It's a brewery... this should be basic for new guests. But, she was great and allowed us to try tastes of brews before we could order. We were at Flora for a relaxing evening, so our group read our books for an hour or two to decompress after a busy week of travel. I ordered the burger, and, was surprised with how many potatoes were on the side. Given that the burger is at $20, I would recommend removing half of the potatoes to drop the price down a few dollars. Everyone in my group would have ordered one if it had been smaller and cheaper. Again, it was strange that they did not offer any coat hanging area, and, the initial experience here really left a bad taste for us. The one Ottawa local who was with us was shocked at the experience, given that she had been here before, and said that she would not return again. read more

When we started planning our Ottawa trip, I was excited to discover that we'd be staying close to a local brewery called Flora Hall. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this place exceeded my expectations considerably. I showed up at around 7:00 on a Tuesday and the place was already hopping. I snagged a spot at the bar and started off with a pint of their North East IPA. It was seriously delicious. For food, I decided to check out the Burger ("potato bun/ fresh ground beef/ cheese/ mustard/ ketchup/ lettuce/ onion/ pickle"). I was hoping it would be tasty but it far exceeded my expectations. This is one delicious hamburger. Everything works really well together, from the smashed patty to the toasted (yet soft) bun to the various toppings. The menu recommended pairing it with the American Oat Pale Ale and that's exactly what I did. It was a perfect combo. Flora Hall is exactly the kind of awesome, low-key brewery that I love visiting. probs one of the best Brew Pub I've been. I like when house draft is made in house with pots and barrels. They also got taco Tuesday and Monday Happy Hour all day for heavy drinkers. Second floor lounge has bourbon and scotch whiskey, and it looks like a good lounge. I wonder why these babes were not in the menu or extended ones, so do customers keep their bottles here so they can go to quiet space and drink whiskey than the owner availing these for more inclusivity? I would enjoy this space with whiskey lol. read more

Great brewery. The hospitality was knowledgeable and friendly and not at all judgmental. We were there for Canada Day! They had a dj and we easily found a seat at the bar. We got Canadian brews and cider, fried cheese, ribs, and smoked maple nuts. A total vibe a much recommended! read more

The brewery offers interesting flavours but nothing I have not seen before elsewhere however, the food was very good, great choices in a small menu that doesn't need more... just perfect. I rarely doc stars based on service, however I am going to in this case. Flora Hall Brewing is a cool building on a neat neighborhood street. The three beers I tasted were OK to excellent, depending on style. The food I had was good, four stars. Both beer and food are a bit pricey. The reason for only 3 stars is the look and reception I got when I arrived. I'm from put of town, first time here. "Wait to be seated," OK, but the wait was pretty long for how busy it was. Then the woman who came over gave me a look like I was a recurring visiting vacuum salesman - very sour and unwelcoming. I had to say, just for one please, and then she took me to a seat. Sat upstairs and the server there was fine. The same unwelcoming woman delivered my food and was already looking away when she set the set the plate in front of me and said enjoy your meal. Maybe she had a bad day. Doesn't matter - in the service industry you have to suck it up and be at least somewhat pleasant. read more

*Updated* Service- mixed reviews, not super friendly. Food - the charcuterie plate with mussels was not as expected. Food option seemed to be Indian fusion inspired. Beer - cherry sour beer was good, oat beer decent, and some average beers. Upstairs is cosy and warm. They didn't let us sit there because the table for four had six chairs. So they were saving it for a party of six even though downstairs both long tables were free. She wasn't pleasant either. Downstairs feels more modern and its cold. Wore my coat. No flights available. Isn't easy to get samples. Can get $5 for 7 ounce pour. The charcuterie board - The House Pickled items came with a tiny dish of pickled grapes, pickled celery. Mussels were served directly from can. Spanish olives half of them have anchovies stuffed inside but they don't mention it on the menu or from the staff. Bread was so so and homemade. Sad board, wish I had gone with the grilled cheese. Bf: "even if I won the lottery I'd feel bad spending my money here" Basic brewery. Really wished to have a great spot here. read more

Flora Hall. Flora Street fire hall. Now I get it! lol. Beer - 3 in our party all had different kinds, as suggested by our bubbly waiter, all very good, cold and satisfying. Service - The female maitre d certainly had an attitude and was not pleasant. Our waiter rubbed me the wrong way with his attitude too, but his suggestions were good and food, drink and the bill came relatively quickly. He was reasonably attentive and courteous. Food - My eggplant sandwich was very good. My friend's burger was presently barely on a white plate with nothing around the burger. It looked unfinished, as was my sandwich. No points for presentation. The burger was quite red inside. I would have sent it back, but my friend ate it reluctantly. My other friend had a sausage which was to her surprise cut up and found under some greens. She was surprised at the presentation but she liked the meal. We also shared some roasted potatoes which were spicy and very good. Inside the restaurant - It was very warm, especially upstairs. We were shown to a table upstairs but the music was so very loud, we asked for the only free outside table instead. Outside - The benches are not comfortable, being constructed of wood, almost too narrow. Not a place you would want to spend a long time at. Dilemma - next time sit in a hot, overly loud restaurant or outside on uncomfortable seats. read more

Comfortable spot, welcoming staff, and contemporary decor! I went upstairs to get out of the heat and try one of their many beer types. They also carry a full liquor bar and several taps from "guest" breweries. For lunch, I ordered the bulgogi chicken wings. These wings were blanketed in korean goodness, were also crispy instead of soggy. The meat was bountiful and satisfying. The overall flavor was bold, smokey, gradually spicy (still blew my nose!), and not sweet at all. Back home I'm used to bulgogi flavor being really sweet and I highly appreciate this difference. I wish I had more time to enjoy the ambiance and additional beer selections. If you're ever in Ottawa, give this place a try! read more

One of my local favourites! Have been here for drinks multiple times in the past but this was my first time ordering food. We got the brisket in the picture. Prices are slightly expensive and the portion sizes aren't huge but the food is SO high quality and delicious and it's barbequed using their charcoal BBQ. For drinks, you really can't go wrong. I'm not a huge beer drinker myself and don't love IPAs but their Farmhouse Saison is delicious as are their Sours. Very friendly service and can't wait for them to open up the inside as there is so much seating inside and the patio is always busy because of how delicious it is! read more

Really cool looking bar with surprisingly great food! I've heard a few people talk positively about this bar and was finally able to try it! The staff were very friendly and the beers are made in-house (microbrewery). I tried a pale ale and found it to be really good. It was different to other types of beers I've had, in a great way. Very smooth and tasty, full of flavour. I did order food too. Although the service was a little slow (not really an issue), the food came out hot and fresh! For bar food, it was really tasty and well priced. Typically, you'd expect greasy food at a bar but you won't find that here! Can't wait to go back and try a few other dishes. They are "tapas" type style as in portion sizes aren't full meals so it was really great for sharing and trying multiple items. Overall, really great atmosphere and selection of food and beers. Looking forward to coming back and trying something new as I've heard they change their menus frequently. read more

Maybe you went deep; maybe you talked about life goals or just said "Let's chill and decide on a good beer!" When you arrive at Flora Hall, you arrive via the neighborhood. Maybe you came from Bank St., walking past the rows of locally owned businesses who survived the Pandemic. Maybe you walked past some that were reborn during the pandemic; having harnessed the same creative drive that birthed Flora Hall. It's the kind of ingenuity that saw a historic, 100 + yr old structure from the worn sidewalk of Flora St., and said - this is what the neighborhood needs! The neighborhood needs a "Hall". A commune of music enjoying, beer-centric, food-smart, folk who walk in and greet their friends (the staff) with a hand gesture or maybe an exuberant arm movement pointing to their favorite table or chair. Maybe, you came up Flora St.? Past the row of brick-laden Ottawa homes, with their smattering of updated or historical, years' gone-by facades. Maybe you saw front porches, with a chair, or weather-worn, upper balconies with windows slightly ajar to let the breeze in. Maybe you saw an Ottawa neighborhood. When you come to Flora Hall you enter and look up at the "Scrabble Board" menu of on-tap delight. You will almost always find your word score available on tap. On occasion, the neighborhood taps Flora Hall out and you have to pivot. It's OK, though! Plenty of beers to make your word score a points smorgasbord. The Scrabble Board menu always come through! Next, you feel the warm touch of a classy, leather-bound menu to greet your eyes in measure with your pallet. Depending on your visit, you might find yourself in new waters. The menu is not stagnant. It mirrors its Brews-menu neighbor. Often changing to greet the neighborhood upon entry and reward your walk up. If you are a neighbor, this is your proverbial clubhouse. Your walled-sanctum avail'd to you each visit and waiting to reward you with head tilting and nodding delight upon each sip or bite. You might ask, like I did, when's that being released or tapped? The answer might dictate your schedule. You might think, damn - I need to make sure I'm available that day, for sure. I want to be the first neighbor to sip that libation. To tell Dave - "Thanks for seeing a Hall." For seeing a neighborhood. For seeing a place where any and all are welcome to enjoy what sometimes is taken for granted - an excellent meal and a phenomenal brew. You can't get Flora Hall outside the neighborhood. It isn't dispatched in wide swaths or mass-produced. It doesn't go beyond certain boundaries (K1 or K2), yet. It's still, at its heart, a brewery designed to meet the demands of the neighborhood. Beer is always available on tap or in cans at 37 Flora St. You can get it delivered, if you're in the neighborhood. As of Aug '22, you should try "Just Wow," the bone marrow is on point. I am so glad that I didn't pay attention to impression of the yelp reviews and decided to at least walk by the place. It looked inviting, so we went in. Agreed the service wasn't friendly, but we did get an excellent description of the differences between the beer styles versus the blank stare we get from some who work at breweries. Our two beers were tasty; tasty as in smacking our lips and saying things like "I taste a hint of ...". We even got a sample of a third option. Was that a hint of grudgingly? Perhaps, what ever. The plate of eggplant dip was divine (and I don't use that word often) and was promptly devoured with not a spec left on the plate. Some might think pricey for the amount, but totally makes up for in the quality and satisfaction. Plenty of places to get mass produced deep fried slop, this is not that type of place. read more

Overpriced bad, low quality food & far too loud. This was my first visit here. Beer was good .. all the beers that we tried. .. but at $9 for a half-pint --- ouch!! Not worth it at all with so many micro-brews out there. The burger was $14 for a minuscule (diameter and thickness), frozen, flavourless patty that was small enough that it fit on the small, walmart-plain burger bun. Like, the size burger you serve kiddies at a birthday party. And no fries or any side with that. $10 for a few potato cubes on the side...food was VERY disappointing. I was starving after a long day, otherwise I would never have paid it. They put the plate in front of me and I thought I must be on a prank show. It was a big dinner-size plate, with just a cheap ol hamburger. No garnish. Nothing. Seriously. When I spoke to the server, they said that even the staff won't eat there - that they order takeout for themselves because the food is disappointing. That speaks VOLUMES. It was so loud that people were screaming to talk and even then, we could barely hear. The music was good, yes, but just too loud for any socializing. The beer tasted great and the staff was very good. But after spending well over $100 for a few beers each and a budget-burger, I am not returning here. read more

I would say that the selling point here is the atmosphere; there are 2 floors, wood everywhere, and it's super cozy with high ceilings. If you want to come here to relax for a while or enjoy time with a group, this would be a great spot! However, there were only a few beer varieties on tap, and most seemed hoppy/were IPAs. Loving the new local neighbourhood spot. We've been twice - both good experiences. I've tried two of their ciders (so so), husband has tried two of their beers (top marks). Menu is small but perfect. Something for the carnivores and also vegetarians. Fish and chips with caper crème fraiche was a hit. So were the bean and jalapeño dip, and patatas bravas. Place is busy with limited (virtually no) parking, so walk there, go off peak, but do go. :) read more

This is a great place. It's a hip brew pub essentially, but not too hip - I just feel good whenever I enter the place. The beer is great, but might not be complex enough for more demanding beer fans. For me, it's just right - the beer fits well into the cozy atmosphere. It's creative, but always very drinkable. Feel good beer. The food is also very good, but there are not a lot of options. I don't need much, but one to two entrees more on the menu would make a big difference. Prices are good for what you get. read more

To start off, the service was good. I wasn't satisfied with the beer the server recommended, so when he asked if I liked it and said it wasn't my favourite he poured me a new one. Service was fast. Now onto the negatives. The ambience wasn't overly welcoming. The beers were decent, but really not anything special. But the main disappointment was that we visited on BBQ Night. We ordered the fried chicken. For $17 it was quite the disappointment. The chicken was not crispy and flaky like most fried chicken dishes, but the skin was soft and tasted as if it were almost baked. For the price too it would have been nice to have a southern bbq side like mac n cheese or collard greens, but all it came with was coleslaw. The biscuit and hot sauce were wonderful though. We just had a delicious lunch at Flora but were disappointed by the small portions and half pint beer glasses for $7. I had the fish fritters for $14 and received three very tiny fish balls and a small green salad. The fritters were yummy but light on the fish. An hour later I was ducking out of the office for a sandwich so I could make It through the rest of the day. read more

A bunch of us went here for lunch mostly because we wanted to support a local brew pub. This was a mistake and we will not be returning. The service was bad. The beer was fine but overpriced. The food looked good but was not acceptable in quantity nor quality. First off, our server seemed quite impatient. Now, we were talking among ourselves every time she approached, so I can understand a certain level of frustration, but you shouldn't express that if you are a server. I worked for many years in a restaurant, and I understand how difficult a job servers have, so I try to be as understanding as possible, but I expect the server to also put in some effort. We were there for lunch, so it wasn't the end of a long shift. The bottom line is she was inattentive, curt and impatient. Without question, the beer is better than that served at Clocktower, Three Brewers, or Lowertown, and marginally better than most of Mill Street's offerings. Unfortunately, one pays more for less, as the IPA comes in a "less than a pint" glass for the price of a full pint elsewhere. Get the stout instead: you get a full pint. Compared to places like Mill Street or Lowertown, you are definitely paying a premium, and if your palate is forgiving, the difference in quality is not so great as to support the pricing. Now, we went for lunch, and maybe the menu is different, but I think we ate most of the items - salad, pizza, sliders, chicken, flatbread - and the food did not score well. The price for the food was in keeping with other brew pubs, but the amount and quality of the food provided was very under par. The presentation, however, was fantastic (except for the chicken adobo, which was quite ironic, considering it was the best reviewed of the food). When the food came, care and attention had obviously gone into it's presentation. The actually quality of the food did not match its presentation. The salad is anemic at best - slice an apple and pour some oil and vinegar on it and you're good. The huevos rancheros was really pathetic, lacking any kind of character and tasting more like condiments on pita than anything else. The pizza and sliders were fine, but not notable. The only positive reviews was for the chicken adobo, which was apparently quite good. In the end, the dedicated driver was quite angry because if you weren't imbibing the overpriced beer, there was very little to recommend this venue. We will not be returning, which is a shame. I would have been very happy to have a brew pub in the area. My suggestion is go to the LCBO, pick up some beer there, and go to the Korean diner just down the street on Bank. You'll save yourself some money, and while the ambience is absolutely worse, you'll get some good food that will fill you up and you can have some good beer for a decent price. Met Dave (owner) and Allie (manager), both were very friendly and constantly on the move, making sure their patrons were attended to. Cool industrial decor in a heritage building. A BIT TOO SURE OF THEMSELVES Flora Hall is the 'local' for those of us who live nearby (as a matter of fact my close neighbor has a review here on Yelp from when they first opened). Aaah if only it were the same. Yes the food is still striking, and the beers are top notch. What has changed is the hardened policies/attitudes that accompany places which have seen initial success and great numbers. The worst of such here is seating... particularly for two people. Take this past Friday. Flora Hall is slowing down noticeably from the early heady days and clearly not as busy as it once was. Yet there we were being told we would be permitted two seats at the rail on the second level. Once up there, empty tables could be found which seated 4 (tables for 2 actually which are pushed together). Barmaid was adamant we could NOT sit at ANY of them, and she would have to speak to the manager to see if it could be allowed. Seriously? Indeed. After a few minutes of her hanging over the rail trying to get the managers attention, she came back and made it subtly clear she was doing us a GREAT favor by allowing us to sit at a table. PASS....we just left. What did we do? We walked over to Datsun on Elgin (anyone who frequents better houses knows this place would be jamming on a Friday night). Were there tables? Two tables of 4. Were we seated? IMMEDIATELY.... and in the most welcoming way. When my partner and I go out, we spend without issue because we can. Flora Hall is clearly not on the list any more, and I suspect other locals have removed it from theirs as I doubt our experience is unique. read more
