Be careful around the lakes because we saw an alligator that had to be at least 7 feet sunbathing.

This is a shorter course than most, but that is part of its fun. Forget the driver for this course (maybe for three or four holes max), solid iron play is the name of the game on this course. This is a full service golf course in a 55+ retirement community, complete with an aqua driving range, pro shop, and a club house. There is no beverage cart, but you can stop at Vesh's at the turn if you need food or drink. They have a full bar and decent grub. I recommend their hamburgers. The course does have some holes that don't drain well (4th especially) so the fairways can be slow and cart path only during the rainy summer months. The greens are usually in decent shape, but this is not The Ocean course at Hammock Beach nor is this World Woods, so don't expect tour quality conditions. Instead, expect a challenging course, in a semi-rural setting with plenty of woods (that will eat your ball on a miss shot so bring plenty of extras), a friendly staff, and 3 to 4 hours enjoying a great past-time. Tip: GolfNow will occasionally run a Hot Deal special on 18 holes for under $30.

Lake Bernadette is a fun course. There are some good par 5 holes and short par 3s. The water hazards aren't over done - but placed in just the right area to provide some good scenery and challenges. They offer on-line tee times and afternoon specials. The two things I feel this course is lacking is storm shelters (a roof structure) and a restroom on the course (back nine). It can get very wet on the course when there's heavy Florida rainfall. Hopefully your golf shoes have thicker soles than mine. In the club house, service is good and friendly. The one drawback: Watch out for the residents who live along the course. They often times will jump on a hole or two and slow down all the golfers wanting to maintain a steady rate of play.

I am happy to say we have seen some major improvements over the past 3 months. It is obvious they are working hard to make this a great course. The staff in the pro shop are super friendly, the restaurant food and service has been great, but the biggest "shout out" goes to Tony who works in maintenance / cart barn. He is always friendly and goes out of his way to make sure your golfing experience is a great one. It's obvious he cares about the customers and the course. Specifically, this past Saturday a huge thunderstorm popped up with TORRENTIAL rain and wind. Tony was out there helping us get clubs into the car and taking the cart back to the barn. He did this for several folks who were caught in this storm. THANK YOU Tony! If you have never player here or haven't played here in a while, give it a try!
