I gave GC the Soy Latte test and the Long Black test and it just doesn't measure up to other coffee in the area. I like strong coffee with complexity and GC just doesn't have that. It's not the worst but it is very weak despite using the same La Marzocco espresso machine (that Barista's rave about for ease of use) as other places in the area. The service at GC however is very good and to some people that's first priority. So if you aren't too fussy about your coffee and are looking for a smile and a spring in your step from an energetic soul then get your morning fix at GC, and start the day on a happy note.

I would have preferred to have been able to spread my own cream cheese as I think that they put a bit too much on for my taste. I will say the milk crates for tables are a little problematic as I found myself stooping to get my coffee and spilt it a little but that's really not a problem for the quality of the shop. The barista parked, seemingly permanently, behind the coffee machine always greets me when I come through the doors, and I don't go in everyday, so he's either got a good memory, or he's just a pleasant person. My first visit there resulted in me getting the wrong coffee, which they were highly embarrassed about, and as I finished up and was leaving, they called after me and politely demanded that I take some apology apple bread. Since then, they've not gotten my order wrong, which is a shame as it was nice bread! Ordering, then taking a seat, our talking point became the shelves in front of us with coffee and train paraphernalia. I grabbed the HONY book on display and attempted to explain the concept to the ex-journalist at my right. The book (from 2010) unfortunately contains only the images and captions, not the stories that we have all seen on Facebook, but I think she got what I meant. Soon after, the coffees arrived. Soy Latte. Flat White. Cappuccino. Our cappuccino drinker said the flavour was lovely but she wanted it "hotter". The flat white drinker remarked in earnest tones that it was wonderful. I just drank mine and smiled. Yes it was damn good. One of the best Soy Latte's I've had. No bitterness. A smooth, flavourful brew with some complexity to delight my tastebuds. Isn't "winning your loyalty" an interesting concept. When I stroll through Chatswood next I would find myself hard pressed to try another coffee place, and there are many... If I did try another coffee place, I'd feel like I was cheating on TSE. That's what winning your loyalty is all about.
