Y es muy natural que las mejores galletas son del centro del universo, Peñuelas, como diria mi querido papa, Rene 'Peligro' Perez. Cuando fui a Puerto Rico el mes pasado me asegure ir y comprar bastante galletas para toda la familia en la isla y aca en EEUU. Tambien introduje las galletas a la familia de mi novia y les encantaron. Es dificil explicarles el gusto pues nunca he provado nada parecido. Puedes comertelas con café, y como un aperitivo, con jalea, Nutella, crema de queso, mantequilla, etc. Cuando las como me llevan a momentos felices de niño. Me gustan un poco quemaditas y otras personas les gustan menos quemaditas. Pero al final del dia simplemente son las mejores. La proxima vez estes en el sur de la isla desviate al centro del universo, Peñuelas, y goza de las mejores galletas del mundo y punto! Now in English............ My family has been eating the famous "Galletas de Manteca" (Fat/Butter/Lard Crakers) since the forties so needless to say I have enjoyed them all my life. Its only natural that the best galletas are from the center of the universe, Peñuelas, or at least to my dad, Rene 'Peligro' Perez. When I was in PR earlier this month I made sure to swing by and pick up plenty for me and for the rest of the fam on the mainland. Of course they did not disappoint. I even introduced them to my gf's family and they fell in love with them. Its hard to explain the taste because I have never tasted anything like them any where else. You can have them with coffee, as a snack, with jelly, Nutella, cream cheese, butter you name it. They always take me back to great memories as a kid so even though there is a lot of nostalgia associated with them to me they also still taste the best. I like them a little burnt and some people like them less burnt. At the end of the day they are just simply the BEST. Next time your in the south of PR take a side trip to the center of the universe, Peñuelas, and enjoy the best galletas in the universe period!

Café calientito. Hacen desayuno y claro el café no puede faltar. Servicio amable y un local muy ambientado para pasarla bien ya hace en aire acondicionado o afuera que está muy lindo. It is located near the downtown area of Cidra and it was not hard to get a parking spot on the street. My niece ordered french toast with fruits, my 9 year old ordered some waffles and she ate them up without a complaint! They are not homemade but they hit the spot for her. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich which comes with greens but mine was plain and it was the most delicious sandwich I've had in a while. It reminded me of a Monte Cristo crossed with a Mallorca. Yummy! The beverages were so good! A latte, a hot chocolate and a mocha latte. The mocha was beautifully layered and flavor was amazing! My latte was creamy and tasted so good! In short, amazing! Decor was vintage mixed with shabby chic and we loved it! The Owner was there and he was friendly and helpful, same with the barista! They were so nice! Sponsor your local shops! Went by on a weekday for a tour of the coffee plantation. This was worth every moment!! We were…read moredriving from Rincon to San Juan and decided to take this detour to explore another facet of Puerto Rico. We arrived just in time for their 10am tour (call ahead and check availability, it's $20 per person). Our tour guide was fantastic! The coffee estate, the buildings, the little canal, and the stream with the waterfall they take you to are breathtaking. I would definitely come back and spend the night here. The place also works as a wedding venue (there's a chapel on site). At the end of the tour you can buy some coffee (probably some of the best cappuccino I've had on the island thus far). The tour took about 1-1.5 hours. Worth every dollar. It's so serene. Everything is constructed from natural materials. There are peacocks roaming around. The air is fresh. The water pristine. I loved it. Although the drive up the mountain is a little tricky (drivers are also a little crazy) and we did get a bit lost (GPS for some reason can't find the place), we called the hacienda and asked for directions which worked well. There are also signs along the road. Don't let this out you off though - it's all part of the adventure!
