After much research I found Mathnasium in Corona Del Mar. It's been amazing. My son goes every Monday. This morning he woke up and said is it Monday? Am I going to Mathnasium? This is the kind of thing I feel you don't get at Kumon. I drive all the way from Irvine passing so many tutoring centers to get to her location. Their approach is different than Kumon. They don't give homework, but can help with it. Their material is aligned with common core, and they even have flexible scheduling with non-private sessions. Anyways I am just thrilled that my son LOVES going there and is learning so much.. I wanted to give them a shoutout. Try them out. We usually have sessions with Jasmin who is the owner, but all the instructors are great too. They also offer group sessions.

From there, the program is well structured: a personalized schedule, weekly tutoring sessions, and mock tests every other week so students always know where they stand. What I really appreciated was how seriously the tutors take the homework. All materials are drawn from real past tests, and students are given assignments before each session. The tutors analyze that work and tailor their instruction accordingly, so every session feels targeted, not generic. My kids came home after each session with a clearer sense of what they needed to work on, and noticeably more confident. For AP prep, Ms. Amanda was wonderful. She kept my kids motivated even when the stress started to pile up, and her upbeat energy is exactly what they needed. We have been flaked on by two tutors so far and have only tried two so the odds are not great. The first tutor came to the first session unprepared and had not reviewed her assessment and 15 minutes before the second session he said he wouldn't be making it. (Total waste of an expensive first session and did not continue with that tutor.) The second tutor took a very long time to get back to me and I had to reach out to her in order to get a first meeting set up. Not only did she just not show up, she didn't even bother to contact or call me until I reached out to her. She said it wasn't worth the bother to come down and do the session and suggested we re book and when I tried, she said her schedule was just too full. Not wanting to disappoint my daughter for a third time I just asked for a refund but they responded I had signed a contract and that the 60 days for me to be unhappy with their services was up. The price point for this company is high and I actually believed from Ashley, the owner and original assessor that the services would be great. Obviously not the case! I wish I had just found my own and suggest you do that as they did not connect me with anyone worth hiring and have negatively affected my daughters educational goals.
