if i can give this a 6 star rating, i DEFINITELY would!! i have researched for DAYS on various ways on how to fix my macbook thats been stressing me out. i took it to the apple store and they told me they would need to ship it to their offsite repair center and would roughly take around 1-2 weeks to be fixed.... im so glad i came here because everyone was super nice and intelligent on diagnosing what the issue was on my macbook pro m3. i didnt have an appointment and they accepted walk-in which was great! after letting them inspect my macbook for about 15mins, they told me exactly what was wrong, told me what they had to do, gave me an estimate of how long it would take, and gave me the price there and then. even though they said it would take around 2-4 days, they called me saying they completed the repair IN 1 day 6hrs and i picked it up that day!! i was absolutely amazed how quick and efficient they were with the price i paid too!! i will definitely come back here for any future apple repairs. everyone was super nice and amazing! Both my MacBook Air USB ports stopped working, which was a serious problem, but I did not have time to get it fixed. I was dreading spending hours in the Apple store and maybe days having the machine under repair. I used the Apple help menu to locate service centers and it pointed out The Computer Loft, in Allston, less than two miles from my office in Cambridge. They had available appointments in a half hour, so I just signed up and drove over immediately. The tech person at the desk was fast, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly, and said he could have it fixed in two hours. I dropped it off, and sure enough, two hours later, they called to say it was all done (covered by AppleCare). Everything all fixed with less than an hour of time spent. I am pretty sure this was the least painful computer repair I have ever had, and I go back a long ways. read more

These folks are fantastic -- I have had machines serviced here three times, and they've had them ready before or when they promised them every time, with no further issues. The people who have helped me on the phone and in person have all been incredibly friendly as well -- just a great experience. I was having an issue with my five-year-old MacBook Pro and originally took it to the Apple Store for a diagnosis and repair. They said it was a hard drive issue and I wanted to get price quotes from other places before I went in on a repair. I was expecting to lose all my data because of the hard drive replacement and resigned to it. I took my computer to The Computer Loft the following day, because of location convenience and good reviews I read, and was able to be helped almost immediately. I talked to Craig about the issues and what the Apple Store Genius said, and he took it to the back to look at internally and came back and said it was a complete other issue with an internal cable, not the hard drive. He fixed it within ten minutes and had it back up and running, with all my data intact! He saved files, time, and money, and was super knowledge, helpful, and made sure I understood the issues and what had to be done with the computer. I appreciated the service a lot, and while I hope I don't have to return anytime soon with a tech issue, I know that I'm in good hands here if I do! read more

The Computer Loft seemed like a great place to bring my Macbook as it was not working correctly. The Apple store didn't have a great solution for me as I have an older computer and they suggested I visit this place. Even in an unsuspecting location, it's not to be overlooked. Located right off Route 20 straddling Brookline and Brighton, there is only one small awning advertising the shop. On street parking along Fordham Road is available, and even in front of the "Computer Loft" garage customers can park. Not only were they able to fix the problems for me, but were friendly and extremely informative about how to fix certain problems without help and what the original problems I was having were. They were extremely thorough and extremely helpful. My computer needed a new hard drive and they had the correct hardware to fix the issue, which what was lacking at the Apple Store. Great service, great help, and very prompt! Love this place and would highly suggest their efficient and friendly service. 5 stars. read more

I have been going to this place for all of my Mac repair needs for a while because it accepts Apple Care, but this time they really did mess up...I specifically requested backup for my laptop before repair and said I'd be happy to pay for the backup and hard drive if needed (because I knew I couldn't on my own). The technician who repaired my Mac basically forgot to backup my data/the request was never delivered, and my original disk was sent back to Apple by the time I found out about this. Later, they told me nothing could be done. Contacted Apple too, they said I needed to talk to the repair store and there's nothing they could do about this either. If you are requesting backup service from them before any repair, double check with them. This probably isn't the first time it happened and most likely won't be the last. read more

In the past 48 hours I have visited The Computer Loft twice in an attempt to save my ancient MacBook Air. I spoke with two different representatives, and both were helpful, attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. They did not mansplain or condescend to me, a problem I have had with other computer repair facilities. They identified potential causes of the problem, sent me home with some very reasonable homework, and then sorted through the issue with me when I came back after completing the tasks they suggested. My computer was not able to be saved, but all of my files were. The staff at The Computer Loft made sure everything was salvaged and transferred, that I had everything I needed for my new computer, and did it all for a very reasonable price. I've never reviewed a business on Yelp, and it seems to be a coincidence that this review is taking place on a Thanksgiving day. In fact, I love the coincidence, as I am indeed grateful for this place. So, I upgraded my MacBook Pro with a solid state drive, but didn't have proper bootable devices to install the OS. After researching and trying different approaches for quite a few hours, I didn't make any progress. Besides, the computer started to act weirdly. So I went to The Computer Loft yesterday. They were nice and warm. To my knowledge, it took more than one attempt to get my computer back to work. When I was ready to pay, happy and relieved, the gentleman who helped with me said, "Consider it as a gift." Wow!! Will I recommend this business? Yes, I will, but it's not just because I'm grateful. During the 30min or so when I was there, they had about 10 visitors/customers. I saw how they checked in, answered questions, and performed diagnosis. Nice and efficient. All these people seemed to be satisfied when they walked out. On another note, I didn't ask, but from what I've read from Yelp, I suspected the gentleman working with me was the owner Craig --- he wished every person leaving the shop a Happy Thanksgiving, whether or not he had directly worked with that person. Impressed. Although I only experienced a very small part of their service, from which I was totally satisfied, I believe you can learn a lot about their work simply from observing how they handled their customers. Went in because my Macbook Pro was randomly shutting off, and finally just refused to turn on. Scheduled the appointment online the night before through Apple (not sure if that actually did anything, but it's nice that they're in the official system). When I went in, I was immediately helped, and my computer was in the back getting looked at within minutes. The tech helping me guessed it was a logic board issue, and he was right - turns out a piece of hardware had come loose inside the computer, and was shorting random connections whenever it hit the board. Problem was solved within 10 minutes! Greatest part is that they didn't even charge me anything, even when specifically asked. Definitely will go back here if I have any more issues (including ones that will actually cost money to fix)! read more

However, after receiving such fast and simple service from The Computer Loft I felt I had to say something so that if someone in my position is looking for a shop to assist in computer repairs, this should be your place. These types of IT Repair shops can be unpredictable in terms of their service and pricing, but this was easily the most straightforward experience I've ever had with this particular service. I was able to walk in with no appointment and was met with outstanding service and no diagnostic fee (which a lot of shops will charge). In no more than 10 minutes my MacBook was fixed and the price was the best I've seen for this type of maintenance. I will go nowhere else but The Computer Loft in the future if I run into issues again. I am not techno-savvy and I am hyper-vigilant about preserving my and my clients' data privacy. I also conduct my entire job on this laptop. So, when apple told me that it would take 10 business days to complete a repair on the keyboard, I was devastated. When they suggested that one of two local, independent repair shops might be able to turn it around more quickly, I was hopeful; but wary. The other one did not even have a contact phone number listed online; so I crossed my fingers and made an appointment at Computer Loft in Allston. They were fast, pleasant, professional, sensitive to my anxiety about my data and my privacy, and did a great job. For example, they needed my password to get into parts of my computer to make the repair. I refused and my heart sank fearful that they couldn't fix it. But, the manager (I assume) who had been listening from the next room came in and set up a second user with a temporary password, so they could get in without opening any of my files. So simple and considerate. They also needed to order a part. Apple policy requires that they hold my computer until it arrives. But, for a fee ($79), I could take my laptop home until it arrived (a limping computer is better than no computer, if it is more than a day). They ordered the part; it came in two days later. I took my laptop in this morning at 10 am and here I am typing this review at 4 pm. Pretty neat trick. The place is covid-clean. The staff was truly professional and the extra care made it a great experience (at least as good an experience as getting your broken laptop fixed can be). And, Apple covered the repair, even 3+ years after purchase, even though it is out of warranty. Phew! Gotta love that! read more
