I've been to candy stores all over the country, and they had stuff I had never seen before. Of course, they also had all the old favorites. One of their most prized possessions is BOB (Big Ol' Bear), a 26-pound gummy bear that doubles as an edible candy bowl. The whole thing has a total of like 30,000 calories. And if I had $125, I would have bought it. For real. The woman who ran the place was very, very kind and helpful. The prices were pretty good as well. My girlfriend and I eventually settled on this drink carrier that cost 8 bucks and came with our choice of two sodas, and two kinds of candy tubes. I got a cream soda and a tube of assorted confections, and she got an orange soda and a tube of Now 'n Laters. I really liked this place. Definitely need to check them out.

The meat quality is always good, and their bratwurst (a bunch of different flavors- made in house) are just AMAZING :) Plus they sell fresh beef bones for dogs too- they're cut to size just right for my dogs. And the price is extremely reasonable- like 2 or 3 bucks for a 2-3 lb bag I believe. I try to keep a couple bags in the freezer always. Definitely beats buying expensive processed commercial dog chews, not only cheaper but the raw bones are safer and better for 'em! If you're visiting Shorty's for the first time, be aware that there are two meat lockers right next door to one another, on the same side of the road. Make sure you go to the right one. Shorty's is the larger building, further east....if you are coming out of Mitchell it's the second meat locker. I accidentally went in the "other" meat locker once, when I first moved up here. NOT a pleasant experience, the guy was rude and condescending when I inquired about a product they did not have available. I even went in there a second time, several months later.....and got the same exact attitude. I won't go back to the "other" guys, from here on out I always make sure I turn into the CORRECT driveway, definitely a night & day difference, I find it amazing the other place can even compete :)
