It represents true value for money and is much better than the university canteen and Subway. There are a number of sandwich fillings you can have and all sandwiches are made to order. Everything from a salad bap to a sausage and bacon sarnie. Price wise it's cheaper than competitors but the only down side is that it is take away only. It's only down the road from Hanley Park so if it's a nice day, venture there to enjoy a lunchtime snack.

For this price I was expecting a little tiny bite, really not much to it but I was surprised to get a giant plate of ham hock, fresh bread, salads, pasta and loads more. It was so fresh and so tasty too - definitely something I'll go out of my way to have again if I'm up this way (I just won't have lunch plans afterwards too...) Situated half-way between Fallowfield and Burnage next to only two other shops, the famous Battered Cod fish and chips and Fallowfield Mini Market (see the yelps for details), they always seem to be short of custom. This is a shame because if this shop was located in town, near the university or even in Fallowfield central, I' sure it would do a roaring trade. Basically it's a subway style make your own sandwich shop but all the ingredients are fresh and there is no horrible smell emanating from the premises. First off I needed a dine and go lunch before my trip to the Thornbridge brewery (something had to soak up the beer...) and I got a really tasty smoked salmon white roll for £3.50. The next occasion was a few hours later when I popped in to see if they had any bakewell tarts left that I could buy and take home for dessert that night. They were just literally shutting the doors but the friendly owner let me in and sold me a few slices - at a discount even due to her saying they would have been better eaten that night (I love independent business') I literally didn't have time to hang around and smell the roses but it's a really cool sandwich shop and deli - plus the sandwich and tarts were pretty damn good!

The only thing stopping Philpotts getting 5 stars is the price can be a little on the steep side.
