WONDERFUL book store with warm, friendly people, and a perfect assortment of books, art, retail, and very much a local, small business feel. Looks very small at first, but has some fun nooks and crannies to explore. I walked out with a book that had been on my list, and a beautiful print of nearby sleeping bear dunes! Definitely would recommend stopping in here and checking it out! read more

While visiting the area, I was excited to find an indie book store. The store has a good variety of genres, including many titles from local authors. I picked up a book of nature poetry as well as a notebook. There was a nice shady area outside to sit and read. read more

Super cute bookstore! And very popular - it was totally packed. There are multiple little nooks and crannies full of shelves and shelves of books. Cards, magnets, socks, plushies, totes, and other fun little accessories are distributed throughout. The kids room was a big draw and had plenty of things to explore. The little Yelper was excited to find the sequel to the book we had picked up at a bookstore in Traverse City, and I got several adorable reading magnets for my book cart. Nestled next to the Glen Arbor Garden, The Cottage Book Shop is a nicely curated, albeit petite, bookstore. The locals are clearly engaged here, as I overheard long, neighborly conversations, but it's a cozy place to carefully peruse the selection and feel welcomed as a tourist. read more

It's always rough for me to go to a book shop without having an idea what I'm looking for already in mind, especially when on vacation. However, I could spend so much time in the Cottage Book Shop. The name speaks for itself! The exterior matches the interior perfectly and it's so rustic and beautiful. The selection they offered was incredible and had more than just books! Greeting cards, bookmarks, post cards, puzzles, etc! It's such a wonderful feeling stepping into the new/old world that is The Cottage Book Shop. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! It's so quaint and just feels like home when you walk in. The bookseller is so kind and it's definitely worth a visit.

This quaint locally owned bookstore is tucked away in an old historic log cabin in downtown Glen Arbor. They have a wide selection of books including best sellers, a children's section (including local favorites like The Legend of Sleeping Bear), and books that cover the history and scenery of the surround area including M-22, hiking guides, the storm of 2015 and exclusive artwork. I always make an effort to stop by when I am in town on my annual summer vacation and stop by some of their special events including story time for kids and film festivals. It's a great place to browse and find new summer reading material while on vacation. read more

I'm a sucker for bookstores, but this one holds a special place in my heart as it is the ONLY bookstore in Glen Arbor. Bonus - it's a gem! Located in a historic log cabin right off the main drag, the Cottage Bookstore carries a bit of everything - children's books, travel books, beach novels, current fiction/non-fiction, sci-fi, cook books, along with a very thoughtfully selected assortment of great gifts & book related items. It is such a welcoming and tranquil environment, you will find yourself comfortably browsing for hours. They have a large section devoted to local history, Michigan and the Great Lakes in general and local authors that is fantastic, a selection of rare books, and (my fave) a huge used book section. Note - there are more used books in the bathroom, don't forget to check in there as well! I always find a million gems to drag back to the cottage with me, including very reasonably priced first editions. The staff is SO fantastic and friendly, do not hesitate to ask them for help. If you don't see something you are looking for, they will find it or gladly special order it. Locally owned, friendly staff, reasonable prices, fantastic book selection - this is my kind of place! read more

The Cottage Book Shop is a truly great little place. Like the comedian Mitch Hedberg when he spoke about Koalas though...I am forced to ask: "Why are they so far away from me?" I love the book selection of this place. I love the log cabin feel. I even love how the light falls through the windows. The staff is friendly and helpful. So, if you are in Glen Arbor, make this place a stop. It is across the street from the EXCELLENT Cherry Republic. It is down the street from the wonderful Art's Tavern. You could make a day of just hanging out on this little street, enjoying the flowers, eating the food, browsing the books. It would be a day well spent. read more

I am also a sucker for any bookstore, but I've been vacationing in Glen Arbor for my entire life and every year, they have new books....TONS of NEW. I'm impressed because being such a small shop, they could easily put new out front and keep the cubbies holding the same material, but it's always updated. The staff is friendly and pretty on top of what they have. It's a very cool log cabin. They, of course, have a great Michigan section of books. I just love Glen Arbor so much that I could never say a bad word about any of their establishments because the people that run them love the place just as much as I do. My family regularly visits Glen Arbor and we ALWAYS stop in the Cottage Book Shop. It has a fair selection of books, even featuring some local books, although it is a little crowded. That's the only reason I didn't give it five stars. The workers are always extremely friendly and have no problem with carrying on a conversation with you as they check put your purchases - but they won't force you into talking! This is certainly one of my favorite locations in the area. read more

Looking for a new release or some cool books on Michigan? Look no further, they've got a fair share of both for being such a quaint little shop. The furniture definitely adds to the personality of this place, you definitely don't get the cookie cutter vibe that is common among the big bookstore chains and at least you're getting some exercise walking around that you would miss out on by ordering books online. read more

I was in glen arbor at the end of August and did not feel like going through clothing shops. I spotted The Cottage Book Shop and was immediately drawn to it. What an amazing selection! Don't pass this place by! First off, it's possibly the most adorable bookstore you'll ever set foot inside. Looking like a Lincoln Logs set, this bookshop embodies the laid-back feel of Glen Arbor itself. Great selection of adult and children's fiction and non-fiction, as well as a wonderful collection of locally themed titles that showcase the best of Northern Michigan.
