This place is, as…read moredescribed by my friend when we walked in, a thrift shop for books and so many other kinds of media! The store is 95% used and 5% new - truly just one shelf at the front of the store with some popular, new books and that's about it! Books probably account for about 80-90% of the store, but Blue Vase also offers used records, board games, and some other music/movie items. But my friends and I came here for books and boy were we satisfied! The prices here!!! That's where we must start. All adult books in paperback were $2.99 and hardcovers were $3.99 (all unless otherwise marked) and you cannot beat those prices! All of their books that I pulled off the shelves were in great condition, so they are very intentional about stocking their shelves with good quality products, and I loved the way this store was organized! Things are grouped mostly by genre - cookbooks, sports, fiction, new fiction, young adult, classics, romance, horror, etc. Naturally, the fiction section is the largest and spans an entirely long wall of the store and that one was hard to look through because there were just SO many titles. Just know you'll be walking through this store with your head at an angle reading all the titles! I found the most success within the new fiction/young adult areas AND the awesome Michigan/local reads area at the front of the store! These shelves were so lovely and I definitely snagged a lot of books that I've either heard good things about or were just curious about them from what I read on the back of the book. All in all, I ended up getting 20 books for just a little over $100. WHAT A STEAL! I happened to snag a book that one of the employees at Blue Vase Books published as well, which I think is SO cool! There were also a lot of cute stickers and mini book magnets at the check out counter, so I got a little lost in those as well! The employees were so patient with us as we squealed over all the cute and delightful things and were just so kind and lovely! Pay attention to the hours here as their hours are limited. They're open 4 days a week and only from 10 am to 6 pm, but trust that it's completely worth a trip here! When I was chatting with the employee who was checking out my books, I asked her how often the books refresh and she said daily! They get about 3 giant truckloads of books each week that they sort through and put onto the shelves in real time! So you are sure to find something here and different every time you stop by! They also have an online store with great deals as well and a good selection of their inventory on their as well! I love it here and will be stopping by every time I'm in the Traverse City area no matter what!

In our day trip to Northport, we were walking back from lunch when Dog Ears Books peaked our…read moreinterested. Upon further examination, we discovered a true gem in the town of Northport. This used/new bookstore has a delightful charm (complete with a dog in a chair, adorably sleeping during our visit), books stacked from floor to ceiling, and a certain ambiance that can only be achieved by the greatest used bookstores. After combing through the shelves, my other half grabbed a stack of books he couldn't leave without. It would have received a five star review, except you can only pay with cash. We had to pop over to the ATM to get enough cash for our total.

We make a point to visit The Cottage Book Shop every year, and we always find something special to…read moretake home. They have an incredible selection, including tons of gorgeous special edition classics like Jane Eyre, making it so much fun to browse. The store is cozy, welcoming, and full of unique finds. It's become one of our favorite annual stops, and we already can't wait to come back next year!

The sellers were helpful in finding books, and I had to limit myself so I wouldn't overstuff my suitcase home! I especially appreciated the local recs + the wonderful mystery/horror selection. This is one of those used bookstores that has a preternatural silence about it. If you visit used…read morebookstores, you know what I mean. It's just ... quiet. You can do some thinking in this bookstore. In other words: It's a good used bookstore! Book Nook is one of the older bookstores in Cadillac. They have lots of books, including rare and out-of-print titles. It's not fancy in the least bit, and in fact it's a little overwhelming to visit because there's just so much everywhere all at once. But if you're into organized chaos, you will have fun exploring Book Nook because there is something to see all around the store. My children headed straight for the kids' section. There were lots of books here that sent me straight to the late 1980s and early 1990s when I was a young reader, like the McGurk detective series and Lois Lowry joints. My kids each found a book to take home for pocket change. That's the great thing about used book stores: You can walk away with a treasure for a couple of bucks. Book Nook also has lots of old magazines, those trash paperback romance novels you read on vacation, albums and vinyl records, 25-cent gum-ball machines and more. It's the real old-school deal, and you need to visit this place when you're in Cadillac.
