Roast dinner was good. Only thing I would say was sayThe meal I recently enjoyed was quite satisfying overall. The quality of the food was certainly up to par, and the flavors were well-balanced. My only suggestion for improvement would be to increase the portion of gravy served. A little extra gravy would have elevated the dish to an even higher level of enjoyment. This pub is in the old part of the lovely village of Shanklin. It looks gorgeous from the outside with its old stone walls and thatched roof charm. The inside is slightly more modern and isn't quite as homely, but it's still comfortable with plenty of tables for when it gets busy. And it does. If you find that all the tables appear to be reserved, it's worth asking a staff member as often they're kept reserved for people who would like to eat rather than those who just want to pop in for a drink. The menu is decent for a pub and some of the platters are lovely. We had the baked camembert and my partner had the steak while I had a wasabi caesar salad. There were certainly no complaints from either of us and we were happy to come back again. There is a small seating area at the front and another to the rear, which can only be accessed by walking through the pub. read more

I had Chicken Wellington & my girlfriend had a vegetable suet pudding. Both were above average. So the food was fine as was the beer. I was very unimpressed where our table was situated - I was constantly brushed into by other people passing through & the staff were not interested in moving us. Could do with fewer tables & better service. The band playing in the bar area were also better than average & not intrusive. Worth a visit if you are careful where you sit. We had booked but our original table was occupied - had it not been, our evening would have been a lot more enjoyable. read more

This pub is set in a great location, a 5 minute walk to the beach, is very pretty and old fashioned from the outside. The staff were friendly and interior was fine, but my issue was with the food. I was going to get some fresh sea food (you'd think a pub called "the crab" set by the beach would have this) but they didn't have many fish options on the menu at all. I went for the chicken in the end. This was OK, nothing particularly special. I got 20% off with a car park ticket which took the price down a little, which was a bonus. It's a good little pub if you're looking for an average pub. read more

Really nice pub. Stopped in after a pint following a walk near Shanklin. Not tried food yet, but looked like a great pub with a decent menu.

When I was young this was a great pub. I've seen it deteriorate dramatically over the years - this is nowadays no more than a little chef with a thatched roof. Food was dull and formulaic - how depressing! read more

The Crab is part of the Greene King chain and appears to be a very popular eating place for families. The bar is located on a completely separate level from the main eating area and the staff are very accommodating and helpful. The menu includes plenty of 'pub classics' - but also some rather nice dishes of a more original nature. The portions were generous and good value. Would definitely go back if I found myself in Shanklin again. read more

We had a look at this pub for a meal as the one opposite seemed pricey & had a live band playing. They do deals like two meals for £9.99 on selected dishes everyday. Inside was dived in two, the resturant on the lower section were you walk in & the bar section in upper section. I had the impression the lower section had too many tables as people kept brushing past whilst you were at your table. Otherwise a great eating place for a couple or even a familly. read more

Poor service, food was nothing special and outside had dirty plates and glasses left for hours, in the end a local was clearing up!! The staff seemed to think they were doing me a favour by taking my custom. No hot water tap in toilets which were dirty. A noisy pub which just wants your money not for you to enjoy yourself. read more

Nice place, good selection of food average prices. Large and roomy nice little garden lots of character. A very enjoyable evening spent listening to live music. The ultimate burger is huge so a big eater is needed. Sausage and mash is good just remember to order your veg if you want it as it comes with none. read more
