This bar was bumping, so many people sitting outside and at the bar and the restaurant upstairs was packed the whole time we were there. Service here isn't that great. We walk up to the host stand and are immediately told it's reservation only. "Great! I have a reservation." "Oh sorry! Head upstairs and they will take care of you." We go up a gorgeous staircase and find ourselves just standing there for a while. Someone finally comes over, confirming we have a reservation and we sit. Our server comes right away, drops two empty glasses (for water) and menus and immediately asks if we are ready. Nope, you just gave me the menu right now, I am not ready. She leaves and never comes back. She forgot about us. She apologized but it never got better. It was half an hour before we got our pints. Our appetizer came 15 min after this and our food came in another 30 min. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get a burger and chicken. Thankfully, the food was good. Oh, and those empty glasses for water, stayed empty until they finally remembered to bring us water, about 1 hour in. And before you ask, yes, I hailed other servers and asked for the water and the status of our meals. They seemed annoyed they had to pick up her slack and maybe kind of took it out on us by doing things for their tables first before ours, which I understand but still kind of sucks. Would I come back? Absolutely not. However, it's so pretty and such a cool building and the beers and food were good so I do recommend checking it out. read more

Visited the Dancing Man for the primary purpose of seeing how a 14th century wool store house would be converted to a modern brewery. It did not disappoint! The building itself is quite amazing and the renovations create a warm and inviting atmosphere for a nice beer with friends. The beer I had, a mango pineapple IPA, was quite good. read more

This is a lovely restaurant with an amazing upstairs. The twinkle lights everywhere reminded me of a movie scene. The atmosphere is just amazing and the background music was just right. Love it!! Marked as closed today (Saturday) but it wasn't! It's a quaint little pub in the marina side, porter potties, draft brews, and a sitting area outside consisting of hills and boulders (when the tables are full). It was a great way to spend a sunny day in Southampton. The crowd is diverse and super cool, there were families out on the hillside enjoying the sun and the marina view, there were a bunch of younger people enjoying the good weather as well. There isn't a ton to do in Southampton, so we were happy to find a pub. The location itself has some history (I think an old wool factory) so that can be interesting so some. We only had drinks so I can attest to the food. Had a decent variety of beer and it was cold (not always the case as we found out the hard way in England). Pretzels! Hold on.. this is a micro brewery, a restaurant, a bar and a outdoor space. Set in an historic building overlooking the ferry terminal. "Why 'pretzels'?" You may ask. My answer is: "Because pretzels" Salted or Peanut Butter Pretzels, by the pint is one of their best offerings. The place itself is just short of amazing. There is a real warehouse, industrial feel to it. Restaurant on the top, bar below. Two massive copper distillery tuns to entice you to get their brew. We needed some help choosing our beverage and the barman gave us several samples. We did have a look at the menu, but we didn't fancy what was offered. Though some tasty pulled meats were offered. So we settled for pretzels, good thing we did. Great place and we wanted to return the next day (Monday) but they seemed to be closed. read more

The Dancing Man is a beautiful bar occupying a gorgeous historic quay-side building near the Red Funnel and Red Jet terminals. From their gorgeous interior, to their fantastic brewed on-site ales, and their pints of grazing snacks, the overall impression of the bar is immediately amazing. But when talking about breweries the best metric for success is their brews, and I can report that they are very high quality. The only thing I haven't tried are their food menu, but the wafts of it passing were enough to make me salivate, so it won't be long before I do. The sole complaint I could have is that it is a little pricey when compared to other bars in the area, but then, other bars in the area are largely a mess when compared to The Dancing Man. read more

The bar staff were SUPER friendly to us travelers. I really enjoyed the outdoor patio! I would recommend this place for sure. It was very popular in the evening. Excellent beers in a lovely location! We wished we had the time to try more if them but Jack of Diamonds was my favorite. Though we just had starters, they were great and included vegan/vegetarian options. Our waiter was charming and provided a little of the history of this former wool house, former prison, former museum and now- delightful brewery, bar and restaurant. Went here for a Sunday lunch and what a delicious lunch it was too, a huge plateful of food, the beef was cooked perfectly still pink in the middle and everything was just delicious. It was £12 for the lunch which I think was reasonable, the vegetables let it down a tiny bit as they were a tad boring but it was still super yummy! The Yorkshire puddings were amazing also! Lots of choices of ale and cider etc and the place itself is so beautiful and full of character it's a lovely place to relax. read more
