Absolutely appalling. This is the worst seafood restaurant I've ever been to. The fries were obviously frozen, and the fish was in soggy batter. The seating is overcrowded and uncomfortable and the service is was at best begrudging. There is nothing to recommend this grossly over-rated, overpriced greasy spoon. I would have been better off heating up fish and chips at home. Anyone that thinks this is a good restaurant should go home and read The Emperor's New Clothes. read more

Was extremely busy when we went, but sat outside with two busy kids and was given a number which they called over the loud speaker - great system to ease up congestion inside of the restaurant. Also gave us a bottle of house-made tartar to use as we needed. Large portion sizes, made fresh as possible. Already dreaming of going back! read more

Delicious chowder - light broth with large pieces of lobster, scallops and haddock. The bowl is HUGE. The cup is the size of a typical bowl. My husband had the pan fries scallops....also excellent. This has a small dine-in area so it's best to have reservations even for lunch during the week. read more

AKA the Crow's Nest (which I was looking up on here to find, until I figured out it's also called Shore Road Seafood). Drove from Halifax on a gorgeous Thursday in July with a friend who'd been here before and recommended to me. We arrived about noon and were told there were two two-seater tables left to choose from, with some of the four-seaters already taken and some reserved. I counted seating for 20+ as it's quite small, but there is an option of taking an overflow table in the kitchen if you don't mind being in there near the cooking. Friendly service. Not licensed. Cute as hell atmosphere in a little old turquoise home, covered in nautical decor inside and out. A small TV over an artificial fireplace played fishing videos with some background music to add to the effect. Even the bathroom has some sea decor. There's also a small convenience store section in the back. Seems to be a lot of regulars here of all ages. Their seafood is brought straight off the boat from down the road so couldn't be fresher if they tried. I tried the Seafood platter (main size is $19 but they can 'senior size' anything on the menu, and I had been told by my friend that the regular size is waaaaay more food than I could possibly finish, so down-sizing it would be the best option. Not sure what the price is for that, but guessing no more than $15. It came with a good sized haddock filet, battered so lightly that it was barely battered at all, but deliciously perfect for me. Apparently you can request it with heavier batter, or just pan fried with none at all. Came with a handful of clams, four or five small scallops and a lot of fries underneath. Another bonus it that you have the choice of frozen or homemade fries, and I had seen pictures of my friend's homemade ones before, which looked a bit more well done than I like, so I asked for the frozen and still tried some of his (both good). His only complaint this visit was the size of the scallops and filet, which were much larger when he last ate here a few weeks prior. He was still happy with it, but just a bit disappointed compared to that visit. I look forward to taking another 2 hour drive here sometime before the fall and try something else on the menu. 2nd visit: got back here not until this July 2018 for another lunch on a hot Monday. We got the last table available, pushing noon. Same great experience as last year. This time I tried the Scallops Three-way ($21, two deep fried, two pan fried and two bacon wrapped). All three styles were delicious and hard to pick a favorite, atop frozen fries again at my request. I was quite full from this, although it was less than the platter I tried last year, it was still a lot for lunch. My friend had the Famous Seafood Chowder ($12 loaded with haddock, scallops & lobster) and it was delicious in both of our opinions, buttery broth was a good combination of creamy and greasy, but not greasy, if that makes sense. CHEAP compared to other restaurants, especially for the quantity of actual products in it. I would like to make this an annual lunch thing. LOL read more

Enjoyed my visit much. Shore Road Seafood is tucked away in the back-woods of the Annapolis region, but is definitely worth a visit! The dining room is charming (lots of maritime decor) and pretty small. Showing up early in the evening or booking a reservation is probably wise if you want to sit inside! The service was friendly but a bit slow...mostly because of the crowd though. The food was very good. Lots of excellent seafood options with good sized portions and good home-cut fries. The Hot Lobster dish was my order and was good, but not great. I would have loved to have more lobster in it instead of bread and sauce, but every other dish I saw had great portions! A fun find and a great place to get fresh seafood in the region! read more

If you're looking for fresh seafood at excellent prices you can't do better. My haddie bits tasted like they were straight off the boat. The deep fried fish comes with 3 batter choices, and you can even get a salad if you're pretending to watch your waistline. The lobster poutine looked amazing, the scallops were unbelievably fresh, and the plates were loaded. Unfortunately I did make the mistake of ordering frozen french fries - the homemade fries my friends had looked to be really great, which made my order blunder even sadder. I'll never get used to the fact that Nova Scotians refer to frozen fries as "regular" fries and homemade fries as "home" fries, and I find it hard to believe that any eating establishment would even serve frozen fries when the alternative is so much better. Despite the sea salt and herb grinders on the tables, Shore Seafood isn't fancy, but that's ok... it doesn't need to be. When the food is this good nothing else matters. ...except the fries. I'll have to go back and rectify that, pronto. read more

On the advice of our innkeeper, we sought this place out....what good advice!! First, be warned:if you order the chowder the serving is huge! My sister could not eat it all, not by a long shot. It's chock full of different types of scallops, lobster, fish, diced potato and a light milk broth. Not heavy or cloying, but absolutely delicious. My second sister ordered the lobster club sandwich....chock full of delicious large chunks of lobster. I went for the Platter, knowing we'd all share. The fried clams are the best you'll ever taste, the pan fried haddock was delicate, flaky, with the lightest lovely crust, and the half dozen fresh Digby scallops were succulent, sweet and cooked to perfection, with just the slightest golden carmelized edges. If you are visiting Annapolis Royal, it is worth it to search this place out. It is a tiny hole-in-the-wall, well off the beaten path and worth finding despite every wrong turn or double-back you may have to take!! Seriously amazing value for the money too. read more

If you LOVE a big bowl of lukewarm, watery milk with about 2 pounds of cubes potatoes in it, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! With 2 small pieces of lobster, 3 scallops and some shredded fish, this cannot be called chowder. Since this is the only place to eat in the area, this might be the reason people come here. The BEST seafood chowder in the world. I've travelled almost everywhere and I always order a chowder if available. This bowl came stocked with scallops, lobster, haddock and a light cream sauce. As fresh as you can get and seasoned perfectly. Also had the pan fried scallops which were likely harvested this morning. Delicious. Add an extremely pleasant waitress and you can't miss. read more

My husband ordered sauteed scallops in butter. The scallops were a bit small and the butter was burnt. The salad was not ice cold. I ordered lightly fried Haddock which was good. My salad was also on the warm side. The dinner was moderately priced, the service was good and we were in and out quickly. The place is small and gets crowded on some nights of the week. Using Yelp to find this little but popular restaurant. Oh, we are so glad to select this one for our lunch. I ordered the seafood chowder and grill scallops. My son had the hot lobster over a fried fish. My husband had the hot lobster sandwich. The scallops were grill to perfect, the center still soft and juicy. The hot lobster in cream sauce was so delicious and packed with lots of lobsters. The seafood chowder was so good. read more

This is a place you will probably never find by just driving around. You have to know exactly where it is and yet once we got there it was pretty busy. The restaurant is really small and looks cute inside but we had to sit on the tables outside which don't offer much of a comfort but we were there for the food after all. Compared to some other restaurants in the area portions are really generous. I find the price/quantity ratio really satisfying. I got the mixed fish dish with scallops and haddock. The meal comes with home fries which are quite tasty. You get the option of pan fried or deep fried fish and scallops. Either way you get plenty of food. We shared a seafood chowder that came with a lot of seafood inside. I think the highlight of it all was the lobster club sandwich which not only had a lot of lobster but it was amazingly delicious. We stopped in here after hearing good things. I was here two years ago and left with a case of diarrhea. This time it was better, but so slowww! Upon arriving the only other customers were just leaving. Being after the lunch rush I thought this might be quick service. By the time we ordered I was being overcome by the scented bleach they use on every surface, so chose to eat outside. It took about 30 minutes to have our order although there was one quick pick up of one order that all fit in one take out box. It seems as though the young man behind the counter was moving especially slow. You know, like when your teenager doesn't want to clean their room slow. Upon getting our order of identical crow burgers without pickles, we found they both had pickles. Even after picking them off there was a lingering taste of pickle. Two stars, maybe I'll give you another chance in another two years. I was apparently too quick to post this as it's now a couple hours since I ate and diarrhea hit again. A great place to eat if you're in Digby NS. We went down for Wharf Rat Rally and had a really good meal. We sat on the deck overlooking the water and it was beautiful. The food was fantastic and the waiters were very pleasant and seemed happy. We had seafood and it was delicious. If I'm in the area again I would not hesitate to stop in for another great meal! read more

We were visiting NS last week and stopped by this CrowsNest restaurant for lunch after an amazing hike. The menu was immense and right away we were blown away by the reasonable prices! The ambience was awesome, the staff friendly, and all four of us in our party truly loved our lunch. The seafood chowder was jam packed, the deep fried pickles with horseradish dip so yummy, the clams and chips and the fish & chips were devoured happily!! Thank you!! read more

On my current vacation to the East Coast I have vowed to eat seafood everyday. I wanted good honest seafood, not something from a tourist trap restaurant. Our hostess at our B&B suggested this establishment because it was as local favourite and she did not steer us wrong. We each started with a cup of the seafood chowder which was extremely taste. It was so hearty I was full after just having that. It was full of seafood including fish, scallops and lobster. The only thing I thought was missing from the chowder was a little more salt. That's not a big deal because I prefer to add a little salt to taste versus dealing with an over salted dish. After the chowder the two of us shared the seafood platter. The platter included haddock, scallops and clams. There was a choice of how we wanted our fish and scallops prepared. We had the fish lightly battered and the scallops pan fried. The clams are only prepared deep fried. All the seafood was cooked well and everything was delicious. We chose the home fries which were fresh cut fries and they were good too. Overall the service was very good, the food was reasonably priced and yummy. I highly recommend this place for decent seafood. Definitely will go back if in the area! read more
