I've been going to this pub for nearly ten years as the food, beer and service have always been first class, and the Sunday lunch is simply the best I have ever had. However, the pub has recently changed hands and so I decided to see what changes had been made. I visited at around 1pm on fathers day lunchtime. The pub would normally have been packed, but the car park was barely half full. we ordered drinks and were pleased to find that the pint of abbotts was still excellent as always, the glass of Shiraz was also perfectly acceptable. We looked at the menu and although the prices were slightly cheaper than usual, the choices lacked imagination. whilst we we doing this an elderly couple sitting next to us (whom we recognised from previous visits to the pub) complained to the waiter about their lunch. They had had pasta which they said wasn't cooked, and a tuna sandwich, which was tuna straight from a tin between 2 slices of bread with no mayo or any other accompaniment! The waiter was very hostile and said at they never put mayo into sandwiches without being asked due to Heath and safety, and as they had 3 pubs all with the same policy, then thIs was quite normal. We overheard this conversation and as we were about to order lunch, leaned over to them and asked them if everything was ok. they replied that they'd complained and that we should draw our own conclusions. They got up to leave, and at that point the waiter attacked them verbally, saying that the were out of order, and should not be talking to us!, they left saying that they we'll not be comin back despite being loyal customers for the past 7 years. Oh dearwe decided against lunch and coming back too! read more
