Even thought they advertise themselves as one of the largest carriers of Liberty fabrics, if you're actually a fan of Liberty's textiles, I'd suggest you go to Liberty itself rather than coming here, since frankly, I feel like the "enormous" Liberty stock is a lot of unpopular leftovers that never sold. Aside from Liberty fabrics, the other textiles they carry just aren't that nice - but the prices don't reflect their relatively underwhelming quality - not that they're expensive or even overpriced, per se, they just aren't a good value... you wouldn't dash in here in a pinch and come away with something you were fond of, nor something that was a bargain. The service here is also mixed. I once had a great experience when I was once looking for a very specific type of fabric in a very specific colour, and they were very helpful to the extent that they searched with me and even went out of their way to check their back stock. So at times they really seem to care about serving their customers, but I've also had just *okay* service here - so it probably all just depends on who is working. For the most part, I'd say there's no good reason to make a point of coming here... unless you're looking for an out-of-print Liberty fabric, which they very well may still have... collecting dust on the shelf.

The service when I went in was extremely hands-off. I don't like to be bothered when I'm shopping, but even so... I felt totally lost in the store and really could've used some guidance - signage - a friendly staff person - something. That said, when I actually asked for help, they were friendly and told me everything I needed to know. I found a lot of classic prints, including Capel, which is my one true fabric love, at cheaper prices than at Liberty itself - not everything here is just old prints that didn't sell, lots of the patterns they had were on the shelves when I went to Liberty (although admittedly, it was more classics than seasonals). And they had the wool/cotton blend I wanted in a limited selection as well, which I was very excited about. All in all, I'm really glad I made the trip out here. Not luxe by any stretch of the imagination, but a really fun and affordable-for-Liberty-fabric shopping experience.

Affordable materials and lots of opportunity for browsing can be found in this little den of…read morefabrics, along with its amusingly dry owner. If you're a beginner like me don't expect tons of help, you're more likely to be waved over to look for yourself and will have to figure out if the fabric you chose will work for the project you have in mind. For the well researched beginner and upwards, though, this place is a pleasant antidote to the lofty yuppiness of John Lewis and its brethren, and the market's just round the corner for a post-shopping snack.

I was mistaken, my usual fabric shop was shut so rather than a wasted journey, I went in to have a look. Half an hour later I had whittled my selection down to an arm full of jerseys several wools and a few tartans. They have a pretty big selection bearing in mind the size of the shop and the price is amazingly reasonable. Now I have no reason to buy fabric anywhere else. But do bear in mind once the stock is gone, its gone... so buy what you see.

As we know, indie shops can be hit or miss, since they tend to fit the owner's tastes...but I have to say, this shop had me wanting to buy ALL THE THINGS and start up many new crafts. (Restrained myself, as I had limited luggage space and Parisian craft shops on the itinerary.) Yarn and apparel fabrics were the main attractions for me--I picked up some cotton that later became a skirt, and a couple balls of bulky British yarn that are now keeping a friend's head warm in Toronto. I also added notions, markers, iron-ons, and paper goods to my craft arsenal. (I don't normally do paper stuff but how could I not buy giant cross-stitch paper??) I was super impressed by the machine parts collection--who knew that many feet existed?! I probably walked the whole store 3x to make sure I wasn't missing anything I couldn't live without. Anyway, amazing stock aside, the owner is incredibly sweet & kind. We had a nice little chat about the shop, and she graciously shared some business tips. Since that visit, I've been following her Instagram and *really* wish I had managed to take a class when I was in town. (Now I know for next time!!) The shop is bright, cheery, inviting, and beautifully pulled together. If you're in London and you or someone you love is a crafter, swing by this store. You're bound to find something(s) wonderful.

Now that I have rediscovered this amazing haberdashery shop it will save me loads of trips into town. I was impressed with the diamante-studded zips on my last visit. I am sure I will come up with an idea to use them soon. It all looks a bit messy, but I think there is method to the madness. Best of all, this is a real local shop for local people :-) and it is best not to be in a hurry and get chatting. Almost every purchase involves a trip to the shop next door for change. Love it!

Mostly of the Liberty variety, and similar. Far more inspiring than your average fabric shop on Goldhawk Road (with the honorable exception of A to Z fabrics, though Fabs Galore probably have a better range still). The staff were really friendly and helpful too. Only downside were the prices, which at £6 a metre for plain corduroy and £12 a metre for the more striking fabrics is quite a bit higher than I've seen elsewhere. But given their excellent range, I'll nevertheless be returning.

This shop has a very well selection of the outmost exclusive fabrics. It might be a bit of a trek to go all the way to St. Johns Wood, but it is worth it. They are also open on a Saturday, so you can combine it with your weekend plans. They are the biggest couture fabric store in England and have an unrivalled choice of materials, which are updated, with an almost daily delivery of new fabrics. When you start talking to the staff, they proudly show off their knowledge and even though I could not afford buying more then 50cm of a designer fabric, they still make me feel important. She cut me a generous metre and the price was low so I was very pleased. The HUGE disadvantage: they keep a dog - INSIDE the shop. I don't mind dogs, but I am incredibly annoyed that I am now picking black dog hairs from my fabric. Many people have dog allergies, so it is not only unprofessional but inconsiderate to allow the cloths to be contaminated with dog hair. I am not sure whether I will use the Cloth Shop again due to this dog hair issue, which is a real shame as it is local and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful.
