I got married at the Curtiss Mansion on 11/4/23 and all throughout the night I couldn't stop turning to my friends and family to say, "Everyone should get married here!" To begin, the team there is phenomenal. Javi, Ale, Alex, Kayla, Sherry, and the rest of the staff made sure that my husband and I had the most magical night of our lives. They treated me like I was family from the beginning of the planning process to the end, going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we could relax and enjoy the evening. I felt like I was working with a highly trained Secret Service of sorts: -They used walkie talkies and ear pieces to communicate with each other throughout the night. -They anticipated our needs before we had them (making sure we ate first, bringing us drinks, holding my dress, escorting me, etc.). -They changed light bulbs, mopped up spills as they happened, ran to get cups when my caterer ran out, etc. This team made sure the event ran smoothly and resolved problems that weren't even their fault quickly! At the end of the night, Javi personally delivered some leftovers from the venue to our APARTMENT which was not expected but much appreciated. The venue itself is also gorgeous. It stands out from its peers through its Mission Revival architecture, and it boasts many different rooms, cool furniture, and breathtaking ceremony sites throughout the property. There isn't a lot you have to do in terms of decor/rentals/florals because it's just that beautiful. But you have to see it for yourself to appreciate the beauty. The photos I'm attaching (some professional, some from phone cameras) don't even begin to do it justice. Finally, this is one of the only outdoor venues (if not THE only venue) in Miami that allows you to keep the party going until 1am. My husband and I really wanted to have a long wedding and dance the night away, and this venue had no issue with that. They allow you to pay for extra hours and move you into a spacious indoor room at 11pm to get around the noise ordinance. It was exactly what we wanted. I would recommend this venue to anyone getting married. I have only positive things to say about the Curtiss Mansion and its amazing staff who make people happy for a living. read more

The Curtiss Mansion was the home of aviation pioneer Glen Curtiss. He was a contemporary of the Wright brothers and they actually tried to sue him for patent infringement, you can see the letter from the lawyer hanging in the mansion. Glenn started his career building and racing motorcycles. From there he moved into building airships racking up many flying firsts along the way. His innovation in planes helped the military in the run up to WWI. His planes were also used during WWII. His accomplishments and inventions are too many to list. He was considered the Henry Ford of the aviation world Glenn Curtiss moved to Miami in the 1920's where he founded 18 corporations and developed Miami Springs. His Pueblo Revival home built in 1925 was designed by renowned architect Martin L. Hampton. Inspired by his hunting excursions into the Everglades Glenn built the first RV trailer for his trips. He passed away at the young age of 52 from complications from appendicitis surgery in 1930. After Glenn Curtiss's death his widow Lena Curtiss lived in it until the late 1940's with her new husband who was the mayor of Miami Springs. The house was sold in the 1950's and became the Miami Springs Villas. By the 1970's the house had been abandoned and fell victim to vandals and a fire. The City of Miami Springs bought the house in 1998 and completed a renovation of the house and property in 2012. The house was designated a Miami Springs historic site in 1987 and it was added to the National Register of Historic places on December 21, 2001. Today the mansion has been restored to it's former glory and is used mainly as an event space for weddings. I visited during a historical tour they offer every Saturday at 10 AM for a $5 fee. The house is for the most part empty. The furnishings have been taken to the Glenn H Curtiss Museum in is birthplace of NY. The director of the Curtiss Mansion, Melinda, was on our tour and it is easy to see her love for the house. It was a fixture from her childhood and she is on a mission to have everyone know the accomplishments of Glenn Curtiss who is not as well known as the Wright brothers. If you visit you will be truly astounded by all of the things Glenn Curtiss accomplished during his short life. The property is a great time trip back to 1920's Miami. read more

Came here for their Havana night Halloween event, and boy was that an awful mistake. The only thing scary about this event was the fact that they charge you close to $100 pp for VIP and offer you a crappy experience. The drinks were awful, the experience was dreadful, and this place should not be allowed to run with these fake narratives. The only positive was the magician at the beginning as he actually made us laugh and had talent. The space was disorganized, there were not domino tables as they promised, the cigar lounge was a joke (just lawn chairs in the corner), the casino line was god awful (and we had VIP mind you). We literally were inside for no more than 1 hour. After seeing the chaos and disorganization, we wanted to get the heck out of there. Also, you'd think that if they are hosting an event in Miami they would do something like turn on the AC in the rooms, but no they rather see you breaking a sweat. DO NOT COME HERE! read more

We went for the Christmas wonderland. The staffs was amazing and they're working as a team. I wish more people show up to this event. It was fun and a great experience. This place is very beautiful. I attended a wedding here yesterday and upon arrival it is exactly what you would expect, a large house. To me the best part are the grounds - there were a number of picture perfect spots. The trees are old & well rooted. There is a area in the back that is covered up by vines and trees its just intimate and beautiful just beautiful. The wedding ceremony I attended was outside but there seemed to be space that would accommodate the ceremony if it rained ... as Miami is known to do. There is no singular room that could accommodate dinner and dancing and a ceremony but the guest moved through the rooms very well. Oh and the food was pretty good as well. They sure make some creamy sweet potatoes ! The Hors d'oeuvres was probably the best bit but realistically everything was tasty for it to be wedding food. Staff was wonderful, we decorated as we wanted. If you really want an outside type of wedding this is a great choice. read more

Though you may now be aware of Moorish architecture in Miami, and you've undoubtedly encountered Mediterranean Revival architecture, as well as Art Deco on Miami Beach, you probably were unaware that there's a Pueblo Revival home here in the heart of Miami. Like most locals, you probably have not even heard of it, or think it's something only to be found in the Southwest. The Curtiss Mansion was the home of aviation pioneer Glenn Hammond Curtiss, developer of Hialeah and Opa-locka, and a rival of the Wright Brothers. The Glenn Curtiss House is one of the largest and most architecturally distinguished of the Pueblo Revival residences associated with Curtiss's Miami Springs development, so it's worth a visit. The home was constructed in 1925 and Mr. Curtiss lived in the home until his death in 1930. The architect behind it, Martin Luther Hampton, was the same architect behind former Miami Beach City Hall and the Congress Building in downtown Miami. It is constructed of hollow clay tile and a stucco exterior, and surrounded by palm trees, it faces the eastern perimeter of the Miami Springs golf course. There is a one acre lake, which brought along many water birds in its day (and was even stocked with flamingos), and the original barbecue grill by the lake remains intact as well. From the '70s until late 2002, the Curtiss Mansion was the victim of vandalism and three arson fires that nearly destroyed the building. Eventually, it had to undergo a massive restoration, in which only the exterior walls remained intact. Blueprints were dug up from the time of its construction, and they allowed the restoration to be completed true to the original. Its doors reopened in 2012 for visitors. Tours are offered mostly on weekdays, and rarely, on weekends (subject to reservations). The mansion is also a popular wedding venue. UPDATE: After much waiting, I finally got the chance to see the interior of the mansion through a privately requested tour. Melinda graciously gave me a tour of the interior and provided me with a lot of information that is usually not found on the website, in addition to showing me a collection of historic photos of the mansion, the Curtisses, and visitors to the home. Because it is not a museum and the exterior tends to be the part of the home used for weddings, the inside is barely furnished (though it was beautiful, when it was furnished, as seen in black and white photos). These days, the event planners bring their own furnishings for weddings. The original furnishings were mostly taken out of the home by prior owners when it was deeded to the City of Miami Springs. Whatever did remain ended up being lost in the arson fires. Something that is eye-catching and worth admiring inside the home is the beautiful, large oolitic limestone fireplace, which is original and the only thing that remained intact, as the roof, second floor and most of the interior walls were ruined in the fires. It'd be great if they could somehow integrate a museum with the event space concept, sort of like Vizcaya, but there already is a Miami Springs Museum, so it is unlikely that this is something they'd consider. read more

Beautifully restored, this is a treasured landmark in Miami Springs. Near the airport, adjacent to the golf course and hotels, this is a nice venue for evening events. This building has been through a lot, including being gutted by fire. The restoration is amazing, and really shows off the once home of Glenn Curtiss, aviation pioneer and developer of Miami Springs. A beautiful stand of tall palms is on the property, planted by David Fairchild and Curtiss in the late 1920's. So indicative of the original pueblo style of the Springs, this architectural influence can be seen elsewhere in the Springs. read more

I had never of this landmark even though I have lived here 20 yrs but I was not disappointed. They recently finished renovating this place and from what I was told, the halloween wedding I attended was the first on over 30 yrs. Now the area is probably not the greatest, but the place was pretty on point. Good parking space, even though it was on the grass- well lit at night at least in the front. The staff was refreshingly friendly and accomodating, the girls running the show- very sweet- love that. The food- really, really, good. The staff serving, dressed professionally, despite the fact that they barely spoke. The DJ- awesome! Event Factor- soon to be reviewed.. I think the only thing that could be improved is the area where the bride got ready, add a couple more chairs and it will be perfect. When searching for venues, the Curtiss Mansion was the first and only venue we ended up visiting. We got married here and couldn't have chosen a better venue. It's hard to summarize all the amazing aspects of this venue. The grounds and Mansion are gorgeous and transport you away from the hectic hustle and bustle of Miami. It is truly a special place with rich history.  The mansion has multiple beautiful locations, for ceremonies, receptions, and photographs. We had our ceremony in the grove at sunset, and it looked absolutely magical with the bistro lights hung in the trees. Our reception was in the courtyard, which is gorgeous in its own right, and with it fully decorated it felt more like we were in the Mediterranean compared to Miami.  The Mansion crew is amazing!! Sherry and Javi are the BEST!!! We had the wedding of our dreams, which would not have been the same with out this location or Sherry and Javi's help. The pair were so easy to work with, maintained flexible schedules for visits to show off our venue to visiting family and friends, and exuded with passion for the Mansion. The crew so clearly cares deeply about the mansion and its history, you can't help but fall in love with it as well right alongside them. They wanted to make sure we had the wedding of our dreams and worked hard to make sure all the details were in place to make it happen. We always felt like a priority to them and were treated with utmost respect. As a same-love couple, it's not always easy to feel comfortable searching for wedding venues. Sherry and the Mansion crew's support meant the world to us and made us feel safe and celebrated. Our reception was in the courtyard and our ceremony was in the living room area with the fireplace. We were going to be married by the stone arch in the back, but because there was a chance of rain, we decided to move it inside just in case. We are SO glad we did! The inside of the venue is so unique and romantic. The Curtiss Mansion team made the ceremony look gorgeous inside, and lit candles in the fireplace. It was perfect. The reception was also stunning. The team that works at the Curtiss Mansion is amazing. Sherry is very nice and responsive. Also, we hired Javier Diaz (he works at the Curtiss Mansion) for our day-of coordinator, and he was a dream. Everything ran so smoothly and he always seemed very relaxed. He had answers to all of our questions. He even gave a historic tour of the venue to our families. All around, he was super helpful. Curtiss was a mechanic and certainly not an architect, but he had a sense of whimsy and this house is set on a golf course which gives it a feeling of a much larger property than it actually is, but when he built it this was all swamp like the rest of Miami and especially Miami Springs. Designed in the Pueblo Revival style, the mansion was constructed in 1925 by aviation pioneer Glenn Hammond Curtiss, developer of the Miami suburbs of Hialeah,and Opa-locka, Florida, as well as Miami Springs. Curtiss lived at the large, two-story residence until his death in 1930. The mansion was the largest of Pueblo themed houses built by the Curtiss-Wright Company in its development of Country Club Estates in Miami Springs. Facing the eastern perimeter of the golf course, the house features a central patio. The landscaped estate consisted of over 30 acres, with a small lake on the east side of the property. Curtiss brought many species of water birds to the lake, including flamingos and swans. Together with the adjacent property which made an even larger property. After Curtiss's death in the early 1930s, Lena Curtiss married an old friend and business associate of her husband, H. Sayre Wheeler. Wheeler served as mayor of Miami Springs. The couple lived in the house until the late 1940s. The estate was sold in the mid-1950s and became the Miami Springs Villas. It was sold to Forte Hotels, International, Inc. in the late 1970s and is currently owned by the city of Miami Springs. When I made my unannounced little tour it was a Sunday and they had just finished a children's concert of some sort so I was left with the staff and no wedding party drunks hovering about. It was quiet and one of the very nice, but clearly bureaucratic staffers gave me a short tour. Designated a Miami Springs historic site in 1987, the mansion was added to the NRHP. Its architect, Martin Hampton, was one of Miami's most prominent architects during the 1920s (when Miami was being sold by the gallon an acre). Hampton's designs include the former Miami Beach City Hall and the Congress Building in downtown Miami. The house is roughly V-shaped in plan and constructed of hollow clay tile with a rough textured stucco exterior. The roof is flat with very irregular parapet walls embellished by projecting waterspouts and irregular shaped openings. The main entrance to the residence is set within a deeply recessed T-shaped opening and marked by a flat-roofed porte cochere. At the south end of the lake is an arbor and barbecue grill. The grill was constructed of coquina stone, which was a by-product of digging the lake. Beginning in the late 1970s, the house was subject to vandalism and a number of fires. In 1998, a public/private partnership of Curtiss Mansion, Inc., and the city of Miami Springs embarked on a lengthy restoration project. The "Mansion" releys on grants from the state and feds and private citizens to pay the staffers and the busywork connected with such a large house, but with Codina-Carr's "Downtown Doral" ( a New Urbanism style project which is a first for Dade County) and other similar growth projects in the pipeline for the future I doubt they will be in need of much except guards to keep the gawkers away and more help for the weddings function requests that will come pouring in. read more

She was with me every step of the way, she answered every question, assisted me with many details not to mention she gave me her unconditional support during one of the most difficult times in my life (illness in the family). I recently went to a wedding at the Curtiss Mansion. I was a bit apprehensive because of the pandemic but the couple let us the venue was being strict about the social distancing rules. Upon arrival at the wedding, our temperatures were taken and were reminded about keeping the masks on. The ceremony was outdoors and chairs were separate. The cocktail hour was also hosted outdoors in a beautiful courtyard. Catering all had masks and gloves and the bars all had plexiglass. I must this was very comforting. The family was also very conscious of everyone's safety. They made an announcement during their speech to please cooperate with the mask requirement. The night was cool and so nice. To be honest, I didn't even notice my mask was on. It was great getting out of the house and enjoying a beautiful wedding while feeling safe. I had to take the time out to give the Team at Curtiss Mansion a shoot out for such an amazing night! Kudos. read more

When shopping for your wedding venue, they say when you have your "bridal moment" you'll know. I never knew it was true until i experienced it first hand. Let me start off by saying, I had no idea this place was even a wedding venue until my caterer had introduced me to it. I had my heart set on a different venue, and was disappointed when I saw it in person and was hoping The Curtiss Mansion would seal the deal. From the moment I drove up, I loved the grandiose feeling of driving up the long drive way. I am all about the experience and first impression and when driving up, I know my guests will feel the grandness of the event. It was a gorgeous Miami day and seeing all the trees and greenery and round drive way, I had a good feeling about it, and could picture my guests driving up. When walking in, a sense of ease came over me, and I just fell in love with the venue. Every room had its quaint details, all of which my event would flow into. Then going to the courtyard and the ceremony location, I all of a sudden knew in that moment, that's where my wedding would be held. You need to bring everything in, caterer, lights, rentals, etc., but if you play your cards right, a wedding at this gorgeous venue can be a better and cost saving experience as opposed to a ballroom empty box. I signed my contract a week later, and on cloud nine seeing all the details come together. It's going a December night wedding under the stars. I can't wait !
