Stopped in for coffee on our way thru to Santa Fe. They have a drive-thru bit we went inside. It's cute & the staff is SUPER- friendly! I got an oatmilk Mocha that was PERFECT! Not too sweet & great taste! The Menu for food (it's a cafe,too!) looked good but we'd just eaten breakfast. Stopped for the night to get a good breakfast in the morning. As a truck driver it's hard to find parking by non truck stop places. But this place had plenty. They open at 6am. I was second in line. The servers were good. Hospitable and courteous. The place was clean with ample space for sitting large groups. Clean restrooms. Is it just me that attracts bad food? My fiancé thinks so.... I ordered the huevos rancheros (my favorite). Today was a total disappointment. Now, I know that Texas food is different in flavors then New Mexico's, so let me explain the disappointment. TX uses a simple tomato sauce with some rajas on their eggs, NM used what tasted like enchilada sauce covered in cheese. And they but a tortilla under each egg. To me, the tortilla felt like it wasn't cooked or heated just placed on the plate and covered with everything else. I got 4 slices of potato covered in cheese. TX gives you fried diced potatoes and more. The refried beans also covered in cheese. Now I'm not an expert chef, I was only in the business for 20+ years and one of the places I worked for was a NM style fast casual place. And the difference from that chefs food to this is convenience store to gourmet. I might stop here for different kind of coffee as I read it's good.... We shall see.... Friendly service. Clean. Good food. Good portions. Small town charm. We ate there twice (once for supper and then again for breakfast the next morning) while in town for one night. We enjoyed both visits. Our grand left his pig cup. Upon our realization, we went back to get it. The waitress remembered that it had been thrown away and retrieved it from the trash and washed it before returning it to us. Good folks. read more

We rely on this as a good coffee stop traveling between Texas and New Mexico. During COVID times, the drive-thru is so convenient. Bathrooms are also clean and nicely maintained. Lattes are really good, not too milky and from a smooth roast, not to mention a screaming deal price-wise. Service is so sweet and polite. Have not tried the food but when we feel safe dining indoors again we'll give it a go! read more

There weren't many choices for food in Fort Sumner, so we ended up here. The menu was huge and the service was great. The food was good, but not great. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing was just spectacular, except I really enjoyed the pancakes. I got a latte and the espresso was very strong and flavorful. The restaurant was clean and prices fair. Was pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem while on the road from Phoenix, AZ to Houston, TX in the town of Fort Sumner, NM. I immediately felt the "home town" vibe of this special restaurant & coffee shop. The staff was so friendly & welcoming that I immediately felt right at home. Had a "BLT" & asked them to add a fried egg & they happily obliged. it was simply excellent & brought back vivid memories of my youth from a bygone era when food was prepared with love , caring & pride in serving the very best to the community they served. A little about the proprietors: before "Sam" Samantha & Kurt started this wonderful eatery & coffee house, it was a Mexican restaurant called Fred's that had proudly served the Fort Sumner community for 47 years. So the history of friendly service & outstanding fare literally is permeated within. Now for the sad part. I discovered that this was their last day open! After 4 years, surviving thru the Covid restrictions, Sam & Kurt are have to close due to illness. It saddens the heart that Fort Sumner, NM will lose this hidden gem. If I lived here, it would have definitely been my "go to" place for everything. Thank you so much Sam & Kurt for providing the friendliest & definitely the tastiest place ever. What a great surprise! My hubs and I had a chicken quesadilla and a barbacoa and bean burrito. Both were very delicious. The salsa was fresh and just spicy enough. The service was excellent and prices were great. Definitely recommend. read more

The Daily Grind Is also now a very charming restaurant with some outdoor seating. We were hungry travelers looking for lunch and weren't disappointed. We have a few small suggestions, We ordered the Caso dip appetizer which was so watery but much improved after the waitress took it back. It was sprinkled with green chiles which added nothing to the flavor. It was not the white caso I'm used to so I did not really care for it. The green chilies used in the enchilada plate my husband ordered were very mild. The servings were plentiful, all fresh ingredients -delicious although the green Chile's were on the mild side. The rice had just the right hint of red chile seasoning. The pinto beans were very flavorful and a nice change from typical refritos. Overall impression was fresh and homemade. I had the grilled cheesy chicken quesadilla with green chiles, which again was very mild, if you want to spice it up, ask for extra. It was huge, and came with lettuce, chopped tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. For desert we shared a piece of strawberry cake, yummy!Our young waitress was very nice and looked after us well. read more

I used to eat here all the time. But I will never go again. I authorized a $10 to for them on my credit card. I received notice on my phone that they charged the tip. About one hour later they ran the card a second time for the tip. So they received two $10 tips from me. One authorized and one not. Be warned. They are crooks. read more

Stopped in for breakfast recently on a trip back to Texas. The very courteous and welcoming staff provided excellent and prompt service. The breakfast menu is extensive. I had the green chili burrito and asked for extra on top, which I received no charge. It was big, fat, and tasty, and the coffee was also excellent. Great value too. Obviously not a 5 star restaurant, but my experience was 5 stars. We sat in the inside patio area, which had couches and space for my 3 kids (1, 5, and 7) to play/walk around. They liked the tiny fish in the tank upon entering as well. The staff was very friendly, and my chicken quesadilla was just what I was craving. My husband had steak tacos that he really liked too. Driving from Santa Fe back to Houston, Yelp showed a coffee shop in Fort Sumner. Wife ordered decaf and we were told they had no decaf coffee. Disappointing. She got a small cup of coffee instead if the 16 oz decaf coffee she would gave preferred. She had pecan pie and I had apple pie. Both were very good. read more

This has to be the most disappointing and repulsive restaurant I have ever eaten at. They cook the food with no care whatsoever. The food is always a disappointment when I get it To-go, it either comes wet and soggy or dripping in grease. I always feel sick after eating here. They always put the food in random containers. They are very unorganized, They always forget the sauce to everything I order. The list goes on and on. Don't believe the positive reviews on here. This is place is not only charming, the service was great and the food was wonderful! To start with we had the chips and queso which was really good. I ordered the ice tea and it tasted like it was freshly brewed. My husband had the beef quesadilla and I had the chicken quesadilla-- they were huge. Honestly along with the chips and queso, we would have been good with sharing one quesadilla. The quesadilla was super yummy and, unlike another review I read, the chiles were hot but oh so good! They also have an assortment of cakes but we were so full that we had to take our chocolate cake slice to go.
