Note only Kirstie, but all of the teachers too are committed to the students and create a very positive learning environment. I feel it is important to check service levels not only by using the service, but "interviewing" the potential service provider. Each call resulted in ok service over the phone until this last one. I called CC & Company because I heard that they were one of the best in the area. I think the key here is "in the area". Does not mean best of the best. The classes are not actual dance classes for the little kids. Creative Movement is not something I am interested in. My children can get that at a day care. I want a dance company to provide REAL dance classes. They say that they are not able to teach kids so young. Well I could put well over a thousand youtube links that say that yes younger kids can be taught and be exceptional. Just disappointing that the daytime classes are not available and the variety is truly not there. When I asked the person on the phone for a referral of a studio in Raleigh that taught classes during the day for 4 year olds, she told me that she did not know of any other studios. This company has been open for how long and they don't know of any other companies. Just a tip. Customer service is not just about getting customers to buy from you, but being able to provide them what they need. That is what brings lifetime customers. I say CC & Company needs to really step it up and get with the market of younger children and the talent they have. All that to say I was super intimidated to take the plunge now, in my late 30s. I started with a Saturday afternoon line dancing workshop. I was immediately put at ease by the friendliness and the diversity of ages, sizes, and shapes of people that I found taking the class with me. After my wonderful experience at the workshop, I signed up for beginning modern jazz. Tracey Durbin is an amazing teacher! I was up-front with her about my lack of experience and nervousness. She put me at ease by reminding me that everyone is here to have fun, period. I have now signed up for my second session and I have no plans to stop!

I do not like Zumba classes that feel like aerobics, and I have low tolerance for instructors who can't dance, who have no rhythm, and who can't tell the difference between the various genres of Latin and world music. I haven't encountered any of these problems with Erica. She keeps to the beat, she's very energetic, and she knows what's up. Her class is challenging, but you will have a lot of fun and you will sweat! Students with a dance background will appreciate her choreographies. And her music is awesome. No Pitbull! She plays soca, dancehall, reggaeton, West African music, hip hop, and r 'n b, plus authentic salsa and merengue, with accurate moves to match. One of her routines has a bhangra flavor too. When we do squats we do them to the go-go classic "Da Butt" Erica currently holds classes 4 times a week in 3 different locations in South Durham and RTP: Monday 7:30 pm at Learning Tots Academy, Tues 7:30 pm at Bethesda Elementary School (you have to go around to the back of the main school building! I learned this the hard way), Thurs 7:30 pm at the Bethesda Elementary School gymnasium (separate building from Tues nt's class), and Sat 9:30 am at Learning Tots. She also does some special events, and she sells Zumba gear. The walk-in rate for classes is $7 (going up to $8 soon though) and she offers discounted passes (punch cards) for 5 or 10 classes each. There are about 50 students at each of her classes! but there is plenty of room to move around, and her students come in all shapes and sizes, so don't be shy. Bring water and a sweat towel!
