I had Jennifer Cochran represent me many years ago for a custody issue. This was a very tough case…read moreand Ms. Cochran was my third lawyer. The first lawyer didn't do much preparation and then lost the first part of my custody issue and went on maternity leave, so she couldn't continue to represent me. She recommended a different lawyer and I used him, but he had a large bias that greatly hindered my case. I found Ms. Cochran as a referral through one of my clients and it was such a blessing that I found her. Ms. Cochran argued the true legal aspect of the case and forced the judge to look at the LAW in order to make a ruling. It forced him to overturn his original judgment and allowed me to win the case. I don't know what I would have done without her and will forever be greatful for her knowledge and excellent representation.

She bills credibly and does not overcharge billable time. That's where the good news ends. Now for what did not work; a) Doesn't Know What's Going on in Your Case: Your attorney should know your case status at any given time. It's okay if your attorney needs to check the docket or case notes to verify certain items. However, Jennifer was not able to tell us what's happening in our divorce when asked. It was always 'I'll check with opposing attorney and get back to you'. b) Unfamiliar with Local Court Procedures: Each jurisdiction has its own specific rules that attorneys must follow. However, I found the hard way that she doesn't understand local laws or procedures, hence in our case ended up taking much longer than necessary, & even worse, being dismissed because Ms. Cochran failed to meet essential requirements. c) Too Timid: Great attorneys come with many different styles and personalities. However, Ms. Cochran was too afraid to defend me or advocate on our behalf. She was clearly not comfortable in the courtroom and addressing the judge. d) biased perspective: Ms. Cochran has a female centric perspective. We only found about the bias later, much later. She may be a good adoption attorney, certainly not a family law attorney in high conflict divorce. We learnt our lesson.
