Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I bought some drinks, but the terrible service continued when the landlord threw my debit card back at me, instead of passing it, after I paid. In addition the surfaces were all sticky, the glasses weren't clean and the toilets were filthy. If I could give a minus rating, I would. I had a bowl of the winter vegetable soup with some nice bloomer bread, very warming and nourishing on a chilly November day. As usual B was spot on with her choice of Sussex rarebit with homemade tomato chutney, I had a taste and then tried a bit more. Tasty cheese, a good dash of Wostershire sauce and a big dollpop of very flavoursome mustard which, when combined with the chutney, is my idea of food heaven. I was all for staying and trying out a couple of main courses but B was having none of it and we jumped in a taxi and made our way to nearby Upwaltham for the wedding celebration. If I'm ever back in the area I will definetely rmake a return visit to give the menu a good try out.

The liver and bacon my sister had was adequate, but the fish pie was a real winner, salmon, prawns, white fish in a creamy mash. Mmmmm. By the piles of benches stacked against a barn it looks like it gets very busy in the summertime - and according to some locals it "isn't as good as it was before it was discovered" but all in all a great lunch and think it is a great find.
