I have been meaning to write this review for a long time. After deciding that I was sick of my kitchen but not in the position to do a complete renovation, I started pulling off my backsplash with the idea that I was going to do a small reno job on my own (I don't know what I was thinking). I realized that I was in over my head and found Todd on Yelp. Todd is very knowledgeable and a great teacher. Yes he is a very interesting character and very talkative. Considering he does get paid by the hour, I am sure some time was wasted or the process was slower because of this (= extra $). I don't think that this is intentional but a natural consequence of working side by side with anyone for an extended amount of time. However, I did learn a lot and was able to complete a lot of the work myself. I would work with Todd again. I do have some before and after pics I am attempting to upload. read more

Todd has been a godsend for our home renovation project. When we found ourselves dealing with unexpected structural problems in our home and feared our budget was about to explode, we took a chance on the DIY Mentor approach. As a person, and a mentor Todd is great. As a craftsman, and a contractor to do the remodeling, not so much. He was hard to get a hold of and did not come out on some of the days that he had promised. His finished work was good, though, just that it took longer than her had promised. read more

We had decided that it was time to remodel our 1960's kitchen, but were on a somewhat limited budget. We wanted to be very careful about where our money was spent so that we could afford as high a quality finish as we could manage. The most obvious way to cut corners, is to do as much of the work yourself that you can. How do you do that when neither one of you has the know how?? This is where the DIY Mentor came in and saved the day! We were so fortunate to meet Todd and discuss ways that he could assist us in reaching our goals of a beautifully remodeled kitchen on a manageable budget. He is extremely knowledgeable, and gave us the courage to lay our own tile floor - wet saw, mastic, grout and all. In areas where we weren't so brave, Todd stepped right in to take over installation to assure all was perfect. The great thing about Todd is that he is more than happy to take the time to teach you how to correctly do the remodel work yourself, or will take the lead on the not-so-simple tasks. Very good teacher. I learned a lot about tiling a bathroom in a day - enough to complete 3 other upcoming tiling jobs. We tackled the hard cuts early on so I could lay them by myself later. I learned that prepping was the most important step and cleanup is important too. These are steps that might've been missed on my own without re-enforcement by Todd. My wife and I had a wonderful experience working with Todd. We recently moved into a new home and faced the usual assortment of issues that can arise. Having minimal experience with home improvement projects, we wanted to learn ourselves in an effort to avoid continually paying someone else to do it. Todd was exactly what we had in mind. He showed up right on time with a large supply of tools. He has an incredible amount of experience that he draws upon to be able to do about anything in a home. He is patient, willing to take the time to first show you how to do it, then give you an opportunity to do it yourself. He is right there beside you in case you need assistance. While I consider myself very clumsy, Todd's instruction and demonstration allowed me to feel confident doing much of the work by the end of the day.
