This place isn't cheap (averaging a £100 a night). The location, on Canterbury's high street, was excellent. My room was quite pleasant. The view (of a corrugated roof) wasn't exactly inspiring. Tea-making facilities are available in the room along with a few top-grade cookies and organic tea. The bed was comfortable but the height of it and the placement of the television (at a little over bed-height) when combined with my double chin made TV viewing a little uncomfortable. Poor planning. Breakfast was very nice. However, not without some problems. On the first day we went down at 10am expecting that half an hour would be plenty of time. Due to the slow service by the time our breakfast had arrived they had started clearing away the buffet items. My full English breakfast wasn't as full as it could have been. I only had one fried egg and there was no black pudding (kaszanka). Not that I am particularly fond of black pudding, but I would like to get some. I suspect I had been given someone else's break. Oh, the toast was burnt too. When I am staying in a classy hotel I expect them not to burn my toast. Breakfast on the second day was more agreeable, I arrived early to ensure I was able to take advantage of the buffet. The hotel's cocktail bar was very nice. The first night I had an egg nog and for a nightcap a banana rumba drink. Not cheap at ten pounds a shot. But, hey, I wasn't paying Checking out was a pain. The girl had trouble understanding that I wanted separate bills for each night's stay. I gave up in the end.

Plus, Patisserie Valeri across the street has some of the best pastries i've ever had. -The rooms were nice, a good size and modern. The beds were comfortable but a wee-bit narrow but nothing extreme. -The staff was O.K nothing to write home about but they are not very knowledgeable of the area but were fine overall -The restaurant looks like a complete waste of money but then again I didn't find the desire to eat there with so many options just down the street. We received instructions for entry which was pretty easy. We got right in our room without any check-in process. We never saw anyone onsite, so it's more of a do-it-yourself stay. Our room was clean, spacious enough for our luggage, etc. Rooms had a mini fridge and coffee/tea options. Our room had a small attached bathroom, which worked out fine. We purchased breakfast options at a nearby grocery and used the common kitchen to warm up our breakfast (a delicious quiche btw) to go with our coffee. The kitchen had everything we needed. We'd stay again. It's very close to the train station, on the main road into town. It worked out well for us!

The owners are very friendly and down to Earth, and while it may be a bit tricky to find them on a busy evening in the bar, they're quick to sign you in and show you to your room. We even had our room upgraded to a bigger larger bed. The room is modest but clean and nice and certainly fair for the price. The booking also comes with a complimentary breakfast (my first English breakfast) which was good. Big. Britishy. But good. Our only complaint arose when someone decided to enter the previously empty room across from us and start having sex all night with the door open. Old building + thin walls + weird sex & slapping sounds = really unhappy Jenny. While after a solid but polite 'shut up' conversation, they did finally go to bed. Or at least closed the door. But the next morning after an odd apology from the owners combined with an unfortunate voice recognition during breakfast we realised that the slapping sex couple were friends with the owners of the hotel. The whole thing was a bit odd. That being said, the owners were quite accomodating and even allowed us to keep our room until we left to catch the coach back to London. To be honest, this is the sort of place that's best for chatty folk who are looking for something relaxed, chilled and to get a taste of town life. If you're looking for a bit more a romantic weekend getaway, choose somewhere else.
