Stopped here on the way out. Service was friendly, donuts were very good. We will definitely go back when I'm back in town.

This was a really pleasant surprise on the way from Rockport to Houston. The Donut Palace is…read morepretty plain on the outside. It's just a hole-in-the-wall kind of place that you might miss as you're barrelling through town on 35. The food you get there, however, is completely awesome and incredibly inexpensive. We stopped at this place around 10:45am on a Tuesday. Considering how late in the morning it was, we really weren't expecting the freshest product. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered a very tidy shop with fresh coffee brewing and a display case still fairly full of product. We ordered two donuts, a kolache/pig-in-a-blanket (depending on where you live), two cups of coffee and an OJ and it came out to a little more than $4. Wow! The pig-in-a-blanket was so good that my mom ordered my dad back inside to get two more before we left. The donuts were also really fresh and very tasty. If you ever find yourself in Port Lavaca, TX, take a moment and stop at the Donut Palace. You won't regret it.

Proceed with caution. My kids didn't like the donuts with chocolate. They said they tasted funny…read more They never turn down chocolate. But I had two boudin kolaches. I ate the first one and it was ok. But I took a bite of the second one and it was so bitter I had to spit it out. I don't want to even know what was in it. Something are just better left unknown. I can assure you we won't be back here. That taste is going to stick with me for a long time. I'm telling you it was bad. Not like an old moldy flavor but a nasty bitter bug guts taste. Well what I would assume bug guts would taste like. I could be wrong. Maybe it wasn't bug guts. In either case I would rather not know. I get sick to my stomach just thinking about it. Very unhappy with Donut Palace of Pasture Cakes.

I would go for the coffee and donuts, but not the kolaches. The normal sausage kolaches and breakfast tacos are not worth going for. I had a taco last year; it was small for the price, tasted old, and the tortilla was hard. The bread on the kolache I had recently also tasted days old and the sausage tastes like it came straight from a pack of wieners. The combo left a weird aftertaste that made me nauseous and now I have 2 large kolaches that I don't want to waste. On top of that, I'm signed up for points for awards but they're not clear or don't seem to know their own rewards system that well? I had 40 points for a free large kolache. I said it twice, showed her my phone, and gestured with my hand for one kolache. The lady grabs three kolaches and puts them in the microwave. I asked her if the rewards said it came with 3 and she said yes. She then proceeds to charge me for 3 kolaches, which is around $10. I took it anyway since I thought they were going to be good, but they weren't. I wish I were more assertive on the spot.
