Anyway, he told me to stop by his Saturday night DJ gig, so I did. It was full of 17 year-old girls and their not-yet-out boyfriends. K__ played "Brown Eyed Girl" (the *other* popular song that year, along with "Can't Get You Out of My Head") like a million times, so I left after a half hour. We did the little macho fist bump too. Yes, as an ex-student and generally quite bourgeoise fool, the sight of a scally strikes the fear o' gawd into me. But it really needn't. At Churchills, everyone is friendly and nice, or they keep to themselves. Though it's a couple of minutes off the main thoroughfare of Canal Street, it still gets sufficiently busy, and never feels empty. That's probably down to the staff as much as the punters, as they are always friendly, and will have a bit of banter with pretty much anyone. As Alexandra says, it's always nice to find £3 doubles in the city centre, and even nicer when they're done well. I had a cracking G&T here a few weeks back, and will certainly be returning for moe. Though perhaps not on a Sunday. Once you've seen a 6'5" drag queen do Back to Black, your karaeoke mojo somewhat shrivels...

This place is very cool and a vast improvement from Queer, giving it a more club-like feel, though other seating areas are still present. The indoor decor is simple yet chic, with sparkling chandeliers dangling down from the ceiling, while the large studded sign at the front entrance lights up in rotating neon colours. While music isn't that different from other venues in the village, you can't go wrong with commercial chart tunes and remixes. KIKI is where the hot boys are!

Fortunately, on our single-evening tour of Manchester's Gay Village drinking establishment offerings, we encountered The Molly House, an honest-to-goodness gay bar in Manchester that's a bar... and gay... and -not- rubbish. See, folks. They -do- exist. With a bar stocking products like St. Germain, Kraken rum, and various noteworthy whiskeys, I had a good feeling about this first floor hideaway. My suspicions were confirmed when my Manhattan (£11.50 for two) ended up being far superior to the one I'd had a few hours earlier at Apotheca. Plus, the hunky muscle daddy working the DJ station earned a point or two for the establishment. This seems like the kind of place you'd have to bring your own crowd to, but it's warmer, cosier, and definitely offers superior beverages to other joints in the immediate vicinity.

I attended an after party here in the room above the main club, which was impressively sound proof considering the sheer level of noise (some call it music) playing downstairs. I think if I was the dancing type of person I might of given an extra star, so sorry for being me instead. The room at the top was hot, and really needs at least one more aircon unit at the far end of the room, I am aware I somewhat hogged the standing room under the one aircon unit with the friends I was talking to. I was impressed by the size of the bar considering the room size and also the staff were lovely. We were looked after. They don't take cards which kind of sucks. But I was impressed by the clubs tuck shop upon entering the main entrance, maybe all clubs should have them :)
