Great food and a sweet grille for delish meals. We had a Turkey Avocado and bacon sandwich, burger and steak. The steak was underdone but we will be back. Server was kind enough and comped us several dollars for the inconvenience. This Mom and Pop diner is great for any meal. We went back the next day for a Ruben, cowboy chicken wrap and a ham and cheese omelette! All super tasty! A must visit restaurant if you are driving through Elgin or live close by. Bring your family and friends and the prices are so reasonable. I sure enjoyed it and will be back every time we visit! Happy Eating!

Stopped by on our way through. The food was great, really affordable, friendly staff and a homey atmosphere.

Great food, and a really nice guy.... No shortage on quantity either. Look forward to being back there in October.

10/11/21 Recently My party of (6)--(3) couples drove 52…read moremiles to Elgin to give Dukes a try. Reservations were made for (5) Prime Rib dinners, to be served after 5:PM.  We arrived shortly after 4:PM to socialize before dinner, rounds of drinks were ordered. The Barmaid informed us there were NO reservations recorded and she was tired, hence the attitude. Orders were taken for (4) Medium Rare Prime Rib and (1) Rare Prime Rib dinner's, (1) Philly Cheesesteak also. Salads were served with dressings as ordered. Shortly after the Dinners were served, the Prime Ribs were all STONE COLD, the Potatoes were too Cold to melt Butter; the AJU was COLD also. The (1) Rare was served Medium Rare as were the other (4) a $3 adjustment was made rather than replacing. We as a group decided to not complain as to not further irritating the server.  HOT AJU was ordered (and questioned as to why?) to at least somewhat heat the meat, by the way the woman who ordered Philly Cheesesteak removed the meat as it was too tough and dry. Her dinner was just an Onion, Pepper and Cheese sandwich, no adjustment was offered.  The Prime Rib was not only COLD but I'm guessing Select or Choice grade, there was no Salt and Pepper Crust detected on the Smoked Standing Rib. My thoughts are some bars should stick to Bar Food and not charge $30 for a very disappointing dinner.

This place will never get it right because their standards are very low, and management hasn't got…read morea clue. I live in town and hear all the drama about staffing and turnover. The menu is limited, but still seems to be too much for the cooks to handle. First time we visited, we had a meatloaf dinner, reported as "okay" but with cold potatoes, and an $11 hamburger right out of the box in the freezer and onto the grill. Certainly nothing special. But to call over waitstaff meant risking listening to them over share about their personal life, something I wasn't there for. My second trip was much the same, I only went back because I accompanied some friends. Friends shouldn't let friends go to Dukes. Food brought out randomly, I think the cook can only do one thing at a time, and drinks appear only when the bartender returns from smoke breaks. But last night was the last time I'll give this place a chance and will never recommend it to anyone. So many locals are disgusted as well with the food and service. Anyway, we were invited by friends to join them, and against my better judgement, I didn't suggest a different venue. After all, they were paying. When we got there, we seated ourselves in the bar because no one was in the restaurant. There were 4 other tables seated, a server and a bartender. We sat for 15 minutes while the staff ignored us. We finally flagged down the server who thought the bartender had taken our order. Um, no, do you see any drinks? Men ordered soft drinks, which came quickly, and my friend ordered a white claw and I ordered a old fashion, muddle the fruit. I ordered this not to be fancy, but because they had their own version of an OF on the menu so I thought they would be able to accommodate me. Nope. 10 minutes later what I got was whiskey, soda and a lethal dose of grenadine with 2 cherries on top. Back in the day, when I was a bartender and I didn't know how to mix a drink, I would consult my Mr. Boston guide or simply ask the patron. Also, we had a minor skirmish with the server when we asked for something to put the shells from the basket of peanuts on our table. He insisted we just throw them on the floor, and I just can't do that having been waitstaff and the person who has to clean up messes. He said it was "policy" not to provide a thing to place the shells in. It took a couple of tries, but finally we were given a styrofoam to go container. The food was served in a staggered timeframe. Not any two meals at once. Tepid and mediocre. No one ever came near our table for the remainder of our stay. We had to flag them down to pay. Judging by the apathetic unhelpful staff, we could have walked right out the door without paying and no one would have been the wiser. I can't give them no stars or I would. The barstools are nice though, so they are worth a star.
