We went to The Escape Game with a group of six and it was really fun! We chose Prison Break -- the most challenging. The puzzles were definitely hard but it was such a good time. It required critical thinking and teamwork that would be good for different ages. The rooms had great attention to detail. This is one of the best escape game companies I've experienced. My friends and I enjoy doing escape rooms and this is one of the best. We've done over 10 from various companies and locations and I can confidently say it has all of the best features. It's challenging, clean and creative. I've actually been to one of their other locations in Dallas and the quality was the same. In Chicago we did the Mission Mars and in Dallas we did the Gold Rush. I enjoyed both. Mission Mars was definitely more challenging but a unique setup compared to the others. If you haven't been they're a great way to kill an afternoon and challenge your brain. read more

I played a game of Mission to Mars (title?) with a group of friends and a random couple. We had a great time working with each other, and the game picked our brains a little. Though we were only allowed 3 hints for the game, our monitor did hint us in the right direction when we were close and for easy things that we oversaw, which was greatly appreciated. We paid a little extra for this particular escape room, but wasn't sure if it was really worth it to me. However, the staff was great and friendly. Went this past weekend with 6 of us on a 50th birthday weekend celebration. We were joined by 2 women we didn't know and did "Gold Rush". I've done 3 other Escape Rooms in the past (DC & Chicago) and this was the best venue! The attention to detail in the rooms, the complexity and variety of puzzles was great. This was such a fun experience for me and my son and god daughter. I was shocked that they allow minors and that they stay open until midnight. The staff was soooooooooooo nice! The establishment was clean and professional. The cost was higher than I expected but I was on vacation so I did it anyway. This was my 4th Escape Room brand I have tried. While the room had a max of 8 people, my friends and I decided to make a team of only 6, as additional people usually make the mission more chaotic. We were not aware that others can book any open spots available, but they both got booked by strangers. The room was physically too crowded with 8 people, and there wasn't enough work to do for 8 people, which were two major downsides. While the puzzles were better than any other escape room I had been to, being paired with others made the experience far worse than other escape rooms. Since I'm paying $38+ to be there, I wish they wouldn't pack us in like sardines. While I would possibly consider returning, I wish this site would change its policy, so if the room is over half full (5+ people), you are not paired with strangers read more

I highly recommend doing the escape game when visiting Chicago! If you buy the go city pass, you can redeem it here so it'll be a lot cheaper as well. My group did the mars mission. It was probably one of the best escape games I have been too. The game is really challenging but overall was so fun. My group escaped with 2 minutes left! Mars mission is one of the harder escape rooms but if you work all together it's possible to beat it! If you go, make a reservation at least 2-3 days before. We discovered the escape room randomly at 5pm and the only available room was at midnight. Overall, really great experience! read more

I had planned coming here for a work event/birthday and when booking the rooms I had asked them to change the time and later find out that someone has already booked the rooms for the time I had asked them. They ignored all communication and now our even is ruined while many people were looking forward to this event. This is so disappointing. Don't blame it on miscommunication it is all on writing and clearly reading isn't a strength. read more

This place is a home run! Like wow! Been here 3 times and am 2 for 3. Really upset about the last one since we were close, but overall an amazing experience. From what I've heard, this place is a bit more expensive than most escape rooms, but I think it's well worth it. Each "room" is much more than just a room. Tons of things to work on and each and every experience is different. Having done 3 rooms, I never felt that anything was similar so you can come here as many times as you want as long as there's a room you haven't done. The rooms I've done are Gold Rush, Prison Break, and Special Ops. If you want a review on each room I can't go into detail, but in my personal experience, I would rate Gold Rush as "easy," Prison break as "difficult," and Special Ops as "very very difficult." read more

Was extremely disappointed with some major, fundamental flaws with the jail break game. There was one lock that worked when it should not have - inserting and turning the key opened something it should not have. This and the staff telling us to do something again threw the game into disarray. Then there was a combination lock that was malfunctioning and we wasted time trying to get it to work. I brought both of these to the attention of the short blonde lady working tonight and she dismissed me out of hand with a "oh I'll look into it". Terrible experience. Waste of money. Update: We came back for the Special Ops. This time we booked a private room with 5 players only. With fewer people we enjoyed the experience much better. It is certainly one of my favorite so far (I've done 20ish). They put a lot of effort into the intro videos. This is the best room in terms of story tellying and it really gets you into the scenario. The puzzles are pretty cool and fun to solve. This time we asked the GM to not give us hints unless we ask so. John did a great job managing our progress. I still feel if you had a team of 8, the room will feel crowded. It is a much better experience with 5 or maybe 6 players. In addition, this time we asked John to not give out hints unless we request so. I guess that's really up to your play style. To conclude, I think the primary reasons my first experience wasn't fun are 1) too crowded with 8 people and 2) the way the GM gives out hints. If you can book a private room with 6 or less and ask the GM to adapt your styles, you will enjoy this room. Original post: The escape game did a great job in designing puzzles however, i didn't enjoy my experience for multiple reasons. 1) we had a 6 player team for the prison break room. When we arrived there we realized they put two strangers to our room. This is okay. We didn't expect to get a private room without paying for the max tickets. however, the room gets super crowded with 8 people in. There are a few moments that I felt I couldn't even reach the puzzle since the room is full of people. 2) our game master kept giving out hints without us asking him. We knew we were behind, but we would still appreciate the GM to give us at least 2 minutes to think through different possible solutions. But the GM just told us the answers almost every time when we were 1 minute stuck. We'd rather fail than getting free hints like this. read more

I was very skeptical of how cheesy escape games sounded, but this place did a great job and made me into a believer. I would highly recommend the Escape Game Chicago! I went with a bachelorette party this past weekend and we had an amazing time doing the Prison Break room! It was challenging and fun.
